On the brown stuff debate, we started having brown pasta this past year or so (we've been on brown rice for a long time) and it's great, dunno what's changed but it's not like the cardboard crap of years gone by. Recommend giving it a go again if you've been put off in the past, even supermarket own brand (not budget line) has been decent.

Even though it’s a hassle if you don’t have a fancy rice cooker that can do it for you, GABA brown rice is great. Gives a slightly different taste than regular cardboard brown rice and is nutritionally better anyway

We tried to make the switch to brown pasta, but it played havoc with my wife's IBS. Same with brown rice. So back we went.

Just bought a treadmill for my wife for Christmas in an early Black Friday sale. Dropped £60 from this morning which is good.
Just realised how that sounds and like my wife will give me a slapping when she finds out. To clarify, she wanted one and is putting in some of the money. I've just did the research and said I'd pay the money that I would have spent on her for Xmas towards it.
It wasn't a case of me saying "I think you need to start using one of these..."

Does anyone here partake of Huel? I keep seeing adverts for it and it sounds ideal for a quick nutritious meal replacement that would suit me. But every comment thread is people putting laughing emojis and taking the piss out of it. I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Says it fills him up (he's a builder so he uses up plenty of energy). Mind you, I tried one of the peanut butter bars once and it was absolutely foul.

First week or so back at running over with four 5ks and two 7ks over eight days. Times and pace are more or less equivalent to tired days pre-op which is a pleasant surprise.
Main difference is I can feel the distance in my legs now. So not evening going to attempt any of my longer routes yet, I wouldn’t stand a chance.

Over a month since I've been able to train (COVID19). Getting to me, a lot.

My sympathy. I've just had a week off and that was enough.

All sympathy from me too. I was climbing the walls by the end of my 8/9 weeks on the shelf

Does someone have a link to a good and simple dumbbell workout? "Simple" meaning with exercises like "bench press" and no "half-inclined overgrip side-gyrating dyslateral dumbbell bench press" silliness, which is all I could find so far. Preferably one that focuses on hypertrophy, although I could just increase reps if it doesn't.

Just spent the morning setting up and adjusting my wife's treadmill. Its a heavy bugger. I tried it out briefly and it can go faster than I can and the max incline I would not want to do much of, so that should last. Its also got 40 programs none off which I think I'll use and all of which look very similar.
I did get a bit of motion sickness though afterwards. I'm seriously falling apart.

The motion thing eases off as the brain adapts. I prefer to run outside, but years ago i did use them at the gym, first couple of times was a bit dizzy after hopping off after a 5k, but it soon stopped.
At the gym last night for first time in 10 days due to being stupidly busy at work the last week or so and over the weekend. I think i may have gone a bit overboard to make up 'teh lost gainz' and can already feel that tomorrow is not going to be pleasant.

Sadly no, but we did "running along the beach in Maui" from YouTube and that was quite nice. My lass is on about us both exercising each evening together (we've also got a cross trainer) while watching virtual runs from places around the world.

Yep. The treadmill is her Christmas present, but we've all put money towards it, even the kids, which was nice.

Found a very nice strength training device online, the Eisenhorn. Sort of looks like a cable station, but it looks like you can do proper squats and deadlifts, albeit more Smith-machine-like. Goes up to 112kg resistance. And there's an optional cabinet to hide the machine and all accessoires. If only it weren't eye-wateringly expensive (£1600 for the base model).

I'd buy a Tonal if I was going that direction. Depends on what you want to achieve. With its solid oak panels, the Eisenhorn looks like a wall-mounted cupboard when not in use, and stores all the accessoires, whereas the Tonal looks nothing like furniture, but more like a big TV (which it partly is) and you need to store the accessories somehwere else. I know with which I can convince the GF more easliy. Considering the both cost about the same, I see no reason to go for a Tonal, unless you want that the connected/digital features.

Would be fine to tide me over if I couldn't get to a gym for a few weeks but I wouldn't be able to train the stuff I want with either of them.
I'm hoping to build a proper home gym in my next place - squat rack, cable station, probably a leg extension/curl machine, and some other stuff. I want a garage to convert.

Christ, had a look at that tonal thing. Obvs ymmv, but to me, it looks bollocks.
Basically, the Peloton of cable machines by the looks of it.
I'd sooner just buy a cable machine tbh, i can totally live without the online tv thing and subscriptions.

If you just want to do a few workouts a week for general health, they're fine. I think they'd be pretty good for specific un- or de-trained groups too - thinking about my mother, for example, who is older and wouldn't go to a gym but could follow the video instructions at home.
If you have a specific training goal you'd be better served elsewhere.
