Titbits revealed? So it is like Game of Thrones then.

I'd say it's a bit more chaste than Game of Thrones.
The advantage it has over GoT is that the story is finished. So there's less reason for TV writers to branch off making up their own stuff, shit the bed and ruin everything.

Eh I always understood that GRRM gave B&W detailed notes on his planned ending. No doubt he's hastily revising these following season 8's reception. Well, maybe not hastily.

He did, but the leadup to that ending was not him.
I guess what I should have said was that the whole series is written for them to follow (and/or ignore), rather than having huge chunks missing. Not the ending as such.

Lol, there's an "interactive timeline" on Amazon ala the Witcher Netflix show. Only problem is that there's like 4 spots on the whole thing.

GRRM has also made at least one comment implying they didn't have to follow his notes and maybe didn't, so I'm skeptical that beyond the inevitable Cleganebowl being part of things, things will be very similar. On the flip side WoT isn't so well-written you can steal entire scenes worth of dialogue from it like the showrunners of GoT could. Indeed rewriting the dialogue is likely to improve it.

I suspect this will not be as well received as GoT was (well, up until the last season at least ) no matter what, but I'll still take Jordan over Martin any day.

I think the GoT books will have a broadly similar ending to the books just the fall of Daenerys will take a 1000 pages rather than half an hour and Jon will be the prince who was promised by leading an army against her rather than giving her a quick shanking.
And Arya will actually pay the piper rather than sailing off into the sunset.

For the sake of the fans, I hope it is not GSG/Rockstar's Upscaling AI.

Erm, it's not that bad? I don't know what level of writing you're used to, but in terms of fantasy I've read much worse.

I will confess I'm not really one for the fantasy genre. But it jarred quite badly. Maybe I should give it a go when in a better frame of mind.

It gets pretty turgid later on, mind. But the first couple of books are great imo.

It's a decent enough story. Bit turgid and long winded and definitely not a great piece of literature. But it should convert fairly well to TV. With the right writers and a decent bit of editing, it could be good. Here's hoping.

In saying that, I'm a sucker for fantasy and scifi, so I have a pretty hi tolerance for shit TV. It's not as if the genre has a very high bar, I just hope it's not awful.

First couple of books were pretty good I thought. They dragged a bit after that and I gave up on about book 4 or 5.
I think the series should be good as they just need to skip the endless traveling, adjusting of clothes and tugging of braids.

The good thing about adjusting of clothing and tugging of braids on TV, is it can be done without making a big deal of it, unlike the books.

So annoying that the great advancement from streaming in having full series to binge has been fucking jettisoned for this weekly episode cynical bullshit. Think I'll cancel and just wait till the season is finished before subscribing for a month. The cunts.

By Grabthar’s Hammer did they borrow the Two Rivers costumes straight out of early ST:TNG?
Just waiting for her to say “We’ll always have the disabled’s. “

Enjoyed it even though they have already deviated from the books as I remember it. E.g. Perrin’s relationships and nynaves involvement?

I'm not sure about this. I don't know why they felt they needed to have people swearing and having sex as I don't think it added anything to the story apart from trying to make it all more "grown up" and gritty I guess. The book has a much cheerier start and less bollocks.
I also thought the outfits were a bit sucky and I'm not sure why Rand is wandering around in jumpers. I think he looks a bit of a pillock in them. Perrin was good (though again, they changed his story to make it more grown up) as were Lan and Moraine. The rest were fairly forgettable, though Nynaeve already pissed me off with her attitude, so she's got to be doing alright. It's subjective, but I can't say I found her or Egwene to be stunningly beautiful as they're portrayed in the books.
Overall it was okay to watch, but will wait and see. I'm a little concerned about the lord of the Rings series they're filming at the same time (and with some of the same film units), if that's all jumpers, elves having sex and Numenorians calling people pricks then I'll be upset.
