Here's a notice I found, on ragged, torn, paper, when leaving the other place:

The Play What You Get, Get What You Play aka PWYGGWYP ( or more easily, pigwhip) Challenge 2021 is here!

Behold the following words and woe betide you should you defy this edict of the Duckbreaker!

You have 4 slots for the Pigwhip Challenge:
See how generous to you all I am? Well, many of you (bar 10 gleaming paragons) demonstrated how weak-willed you were in last year's challenge, and as much as I enjoy deleting your names from the list and replacing it with a biting comment, I thought we could all do with a bit of leeway this year.
(Nods sagely to the imaginary applause)

Previous Pigwhippers may start with a clean slate once again. Games bought/started before this challenge began don't need to go on. However, set a good example to yourself and put them on anyway, as you'll then have the impetus to see them through rather than slink away shamefully, starting as you probably mean to go on...hurtling down into the pit of ABJECT FAILURE.

ALL newly purchased games, backlog games, dlc, expansions, season passes etc. count. It doesn't matter whether it's a new game or an old game, gamepass, game compilation, humble bundle or whatever else. IT GOES ON, OR FACE MY WRATH! Oh and beware the beady eye of the Duck, unreported profligacy may well be laid bare before the baying hordes.

As soon as you buy or otherwise obtain the item, it counts. Report it on this thread and I'll thrust it into your awaiting slot. If your slots are already filled,then your are out, like the dirty, promiscuous... gamer you are.

Games you have already beaten/completed don't need to count if you start them up again. They DO count however, if you buy a new version of a previously completed game.

Compilations/Humble bundles and the like count as a single slot filled. That compilation then remains in the slot until all the games you were interested in it are done. All filler games you weren't interested in can slide into the slurry pool of your ever expanding backlog.

A collection of games in a single series go into a single slot in the same way as a compilation would. They remain so until all games are completed. If a game in the collection is one you have no intention of playing (i.e. one you had played to death previously) then that does not need to be done if it is one of three or more games in the collection. If it is a collection of TWO games only, then why the Hell would you have bought the collection?! It has to be completed.

'Free' games that you get as part of a subscription service
I will grudgingly allow to go into backlog.

Games you dig from backlog count after a 2 hour trial period. This allows for game sampling before you commit. Once you cross that 2hr mark, report it here it gets added.

Pre-orders count as a slot filled as soon as you pre-order, in all but exceptional cases. Those cases have to be presented as a plea to the Duckbreaker. The Duckbreaker may be benevolent in cases of limited edition pre-orders that would sell out before release. However, the majority of pre-orders are a foolish way of paying more for a game that probably hasn't been properly finished yet, and may turn out to be shite. Surely that Big Game from last year, now fully patched and complete with all dlc at a fraction of the cost is a far more sensible purchase? You know I am right. Oh, games you have pre-ordered BEFORE the start of this challenge don't need to go on until they arrive.

Chosen your game badly? Perhaps you have been lead astray by some numpty YouTube personality or even other forumites and spent your hard-earned money on Shadowgangs, or another game you realise is a bit shite. You have a chance to have your plea heard to have it removed. Court will be held with me Duckbreaker as your Judge and other pigwhippers as Jury. If you are lucky, your sentence will be to complete a specific challenge to have your failed slot freed.

The Duckbreaker's word is Law. I will give a pretence of democracy by putting difficult or controversial issues to the Pigwhipper citizens. Occasionally I might be benevolent. Mostly I won't.

🎯Maneater done. I rather enjoyed that, playing as a shark was certainly one of the most unique experiences I've had playing a game for a long while. It dragged a little toward the end as the 'missions' got a bit too samey and I'd already reached the level cap as a 9m long Mega shark before the end, but it was certainly fun to be able to crunch up Great White Sharks, Killer whales and Sperm Whales with ease.

I'm now giving 🦆Star Wars: Squadrons a go and going to play through the story mode of this one.

I've been tempted to download Hollow Knight a few times as I have it via PS+, anyone here recommend it? Is it a roguelike/lite or more like a 2D Souls-type game? I've read that it's quite a long game too, so would have to think about it. I'm tempted by Darkest Dungeon too whilst that's on sale but again, I'm not enitely sure what kind of game it is.

Well both are brilliant.

Hollow knight is a "metroidvania" style game, with a few soulsborne mechanics. The world is brilliant. Art style and music so good, it is tough and I've sunk 10 hours in and barely scratched the surface.

Darkest dungeon also brilliant but completly different. Turn based combat dungeon crawler, again can be brutal, don't get too attached to your characters and just keeping pushing through.

I put in about 70 hours and never completed the last dungeon. My only criticism is that building your roster up takes time and it got frustrating if you had a few bad turns and lost a squad.

Cheers for the info there dude. Hmm, the party wipe thing in DD sounds like a bit of a ballache, so I'll think about that one for now.

I might very well consider Hollow Knight though, based on what you've said. At the very least I guess I could give it a couple of hours, given the grace period we get here from the mighty duck, just to see how I get on.

Our gracious duck is normally quite forgiving as long as you give it a good go. This is a new pond however

Gotta say I'm struggling with Resident Evil 2 REmastered. I'm out of the station and controlling another character now, and I'm just hoping it's over soon. The station bits were fine, if a little boring, but the Tyrant is such an amazing creation - I went from zero horror (because jump scares are just shit) to actually sitting forward in my seat and listening for the footsteps.

But now all that bit is done, and I'm somewhere else, and it's shit, and the tedium is back, and the controls are just the wrong side of frustrating, and the trial and error is bullshit... Suffice it to say I won't be revisiting the franchise again. :-D

My only previous completions were Code: Veronica (because I played everything on Dreamcast) and Resi 5 in co-op (where [Maven] was just praying for it to end after I got us wiped for the 1000th time). Clearly not the series for me.

Painted myself into a corner where I had all four slots full and didn’t want to play any of those games. A mild hangover resulted in me deciding to dip into a few Game Pass games.

I loved Pigwhip. It was helping me get through my backlog and resist buying new games, but a few duff decisions pretty much put me in a position where I couldn’t enjoy my favourite hobby.

🎯 Resident Evil 2 REmake.

Kinda glad I know what all the fuss was about now. Not entirely sure what all the fuss was about. ;-) Another one I’m happier having played than I was actually playing it. Final section was probably the strongest for me. So in that sense at least the game got better as it went on.
