I was surprised to hear it didn't sell well but perhaps these are EA standards

Its a shame, the remake didn't lead to a new game (really don't think remake of 2 was needed). maybe EA was expecting 5 or 7 million sales?
The game does not need to be massive budget game, while its nice to have this glossy amazing looking game, just make a survival horror type game focusing on key strengths of the series. It really shouldn't be a shooter or co-op gears type game (looking at your DS3)

I didn't think it was a massive twist. It was kind of hitting you over the face as it went on. Not the Easter egg but the whole situation.

Playing this over the last few days and enjoying it at a lot.
I'm really, really not finding it scary in the slightest though. It's weird, all the elements for it to be scary are there but in practice it's just... not. I guess it's just some combination of the relentless pacing which doesn't allow much time for suspense (someone once told me it's got a slow burn build up, and I suppose they were right if they comparing it to Dead Space 2 but that's about it) and massive OTTness of the violence makes it ultimately a bit silly more than anything else. Probably also the relatively predictable enemy spawns as well.
Good fun though.

It's the 'kill room' nature of it that removes the tension for me. You always know exactly when and where the enemies are coming from.

It's an awesome game but I've never found any of them scary. A couple of moments across all three that are a bit creepy but that's only when there's downtime, which is fleeting. It's too intense to actually be spooky. It's hard to be scared when you're running around fully maxed on adrenalines blasting chunks off dead twats every two seconds.

Also there's such an abundance of save points and it's so easy to spam the "objective marker floor trail" that I find the game loses a lot of the horror-tension as a result.

I got myself a new 55" OLED TV yesterday.
I will be playing through this again for a 3rd time over the weekend to experience the inky black darkness.

I love the Dead Space Series, but I agree with everything you said.
The scariest (or most un-nerving) part for me is in DS2 when you revisit the Ishimura. The first 10 mins of the level and you don't come across a single enemy. It's all about the tension wondering and waiting for something to happen.
Sometimes less is just more.

As mentioned in the 'Currently playing' thread, I've just started this, and... yeah. It's a bit good! I don't usually play with a headset - it's not the most comfortable of things when you have lopsided Dumbo ears, plus headset hair is an omnipresent threat - but I've made an exception here. A good choice, I think, as the sound design is excellent. Combat has been a lot of fun so far. The dismemberment mechanic serves as an excellent point of differentiation between this and most other third-person shooters - rather than aiming for the head first and foremost, and pumping rounds into the torso as a last resort, you start by going for the limbs.
A simple adjustment, but a very effective one indeed. Oh, and the stomp! So cool.

The sound is fucking amazing though, gives it a real sense of place. I'd like to see it get the Fallout treatment and get a TV show, think it would be well suited.

How easy/viable is it to use the Plasma Cutter for the entire game?
I think there's a trophy for doing so, but I'm not particularly bothered about that - I'm just really enjoying the weapon in question!

There's an enemy type introduced after you get the flamethrower that I'd imagine would be a bit of a ball ache, but apart from that probably pretty doable.

I think it's pretty doable especially as it is low-key the best gun in the game.

The line gun is handy and there's another gun that's worth having for different reasons. Those are the only ones I had/used for the whole game
That was in the original, but I assume it's the same in the remake

I pretty much always just use the plasma cutter. Are there other weapons? 😅

Zuluhero Allegedly I've only found one other so far - the Pulse Rifle - but I haven't been tempted to equip it, as the Plasma Cutter is just so damn good.

I think I've made life marginally easier for myself by putting the other weapons into storage, so I'm no longer picking up ammunition for them.
Is there a point to smashing air vents, aside from sheer catharsis?
Really enjoying the game - four chapters down already, and I'm having to tear myself away from the PS5 each night. Always a good sign!

Is that the
'explodes into lots of little bugs upon death' one? 'Tis quite a pain in the dick, to be sure.

I'm glad the zero-g sections in Ch. 6 are over and done with! I was so disoriented that I spent half my time flying into walls, wondering from whence the enemies were attacking me.

You guys really should try all the other weapons. Many of them are really good now, they have been completely overhauled since the original.

I think I might buy this, I find games I’ve completed several times very relaxing and I’m a big fan of relaxation
Obvs it was PS3 and 360 versions I’ve completed, not the remake

They really foreshadowed the hell out of the big 'twist' ending, huh?
