I'm not sure how disc games work any more compared to how much is downloaded and updated after copying over but I wonder if there could be a bit of dodgy data on there? Bearing in mind I'm still stuck in the c64 days of stuff not working because the tape was fucked.

Not sure myself. Looks like it copies the data over and then just reads from the disc whenever. I do remember where it crashed and I'm close to it, so will see if it happens again.

For god's sake. I'm sitting here working from home, and I've spotted my dead space 2 ps3 disk which I bought recently, and just looking at my ps3 on the shelf, I've *already fucking got dead space 2 AND 3 sitting there already*
dur.
Anyone need a physical ds2 disk for ps3?

Fuck me the final boss is absolutely dreadful. Making you sit through all of that cutscene again and again is unforgivable. Doubt I'll actually complete it now.

Also last couple of chapters are really buggy and framey. Feels like the rushed it towards the end.

Didn't find the last boss that bad tbh. Although I did have a fully upgraded Contact Beam like I did for the OG game and just held the button down which made absolute mincemeat of it.

Didn’t find the last boss all that difficult but I do think that him and the last chapter are by far the weakest part of the game. But I thought that in the original too.

Yeah, the last chapter was a load of bollocks. Just way too much repetition of moving the thing along the rails in every bloody room. Pacing was nice and brisk for the most part in the rest of the game, but that was one of a couple of places where the game really started to drag for me.

Tbf it was exactly the same in the original and one part I always hated because the game throws the absolute kitchen sink at you which from a plot point I always found weird because the Nexus being actively wants the marker back to make it whole which you're trying to do but it's at odds with the large amount of necromorphs it sends to kill you.

In the original game I never even understood what the big monster at the end was even meant to be. Glad to learn that it canonically makes no sense, because it made no sense. In pretty much handwaved it away at the time, because the whole story made no sense, but 99.9% of the game was fun.

Killed the big fucking minge. The contact beam was pretty much easy mode for it.
Great game all in all. Would definitely like to see 2 given the same treatment.

Finished it earlier myself. Great game, but would have been better if I'd not replayed the OG around 18 months ago.

Just finished Dead Space 3 this evening. Overall I enjoyed it a lot, even if it was the weakest in the series. Much more action focused and less horror. I'm sure I had completed it before many years ago but I couldn't recall a damn thing about the later half of the game, so I am glad I played it again as it is an essential game in the series for lore.
I liked how it started on a small outpost, before heading into space and exploring ancient ships, and then later landing on the icy planet. Finding out the mysteries of what happened was decent and I enjoyed all the additional lore it throws at you.
Didn't much enjoy some of the enemy encounters at times. They were very predicable and they throw so much at you. I found myself stuck in a corner multiple times with the necromorphs trapping me in. Just didn't have the tools to deal with so many at once, it was quite cheap. The previous games added tension and suspense, this one just said "fuck it", and room after room is just full of encounters. I played it on normal difficulty and I am glad I didn't choose hard for this one, I think I would of been frustrated at times.
Game is still quite the looker too. On Series X with auto HDR and FPS boost, it impressed.
Just have the Awakened dlc to do and then that wraps up my DS trilogy playthrough. I don't think I have ever played the dlc so looking forward to that.

What's the consensus on shinies or fps for this? Starting tonight so have plenty pairs of spare knicks to shit and a blanket to hide behind.

FPS, shinies not that obvious.

Yep, fps all the way. You'll need all those frames when you wildly shooting at everything but the enemies in this game.

They definitely move faster than I remember! And it's been long enough where I don't really remember much so feels fresh.
Sound is still the scariest part of the game.

It's definitely not a 1:1 remake, sure there are familiar locations but things are suitably changed up enough, and some some setpieces changed on their head, much like Resi 4 Remake, to make it feel quite fresh. I get that some folk feel that remakes are somewhat of a lazy cash in but there is no guarantee of success with a remake. Both Dead Space and Resi 4 have clearly observable love and effort put them into them.

Dead Space R is much more 1:1 (with a few very different sections) while RE4R is (ha ha, “rear”) is I think extremely different with a few 1:1 sections.

I thought I was going a bit mental because I've been stamping on every body I see. Nothing was ever happening to them like I remembered, to make me stomp them. Then I got to the captains body and the Alien vagina flying squirrel reanimated his corpse. It all came flooding back why I stomped on every single body I saw.

Is it worth doing the side stuff? Got a side quest to get some rigs but can't be arsed doing a collectacthon if the rewards aren't worth it.

You get some special upgrades if I recall, like one adds an ability to your stasis that burns the flesh of all enemies making them easier to kill and the last rig allows you to open up all of the master locked doors and boxes.

Burning flesh thing seems worth it, have similar on the plasma cutter that makes light work of them.

I thought getting the master key was worth it, though I used a guide to go back and find the places it’s used as who has time for that. You get a number of good upgrades from it iirc.

The final 2 chapters are a lot more of a slog to get through this time with the waves of enemies. It's not hard to deal with them, it's just such a shit mechanic. Especially when the rest of the game is pretty much perfect with what they throw at you.

I also found it be against the narrative that has been set up, the hivemind wants the marker back to be whole again so why is it sending a whole army to stop you from getting the marker to its destination?

Waves and waves don't really suit the combat either, and just forces you to obliterate everything with the contact beam which is the least fun weapon to use. It does absolutely shred everything apart though.
It's annoying as they had a chance to alter the last 2 chapters a bit knowing they were criticised the first time around.

And the performance seems to have taken a hit towards the end too, lots of slow down. I've said the point of no return for tonight and I remember the boss being a bit of a ballache to kill.
