Yeah, performance in the last third or so of the game went really bad for me too. Think a few others mentioned it, so clearly some duff QA going on.

Just read back through the last few pages, and yeah, pretty much the experience I'm having.

And the performance seems to have taken a hit towards the end too, lots of slow down. I've said the point of no return for tonight and I remember the boss being a bit of a ballache to kill. It's a piece of piss if you use the contact beam, especially it's secondary fire.

I didn't have any issues with performance on Series X, although I have a VRR TV so maybe there were some dips but I wouldn't of noticed.
Contact beam is great, probably overpowered just like the line guns secondary fire. Although all the weapons are super fun.
I never had an issue with the last two chapters, I always felt like I had the tools at my disposal to deal with the waves of enemies.
Probably prefer this to the RE4 Remake, although both are great.

It's not that it's difficult, it's just a shit way to try and ramp up difficulty. Also takes the tension and fear away from the enemies.

Yeah it drops the ball at the end and the last boss is shite.
Still, fucking amazing overall.

Dead Space was always better than RE4. Aint nothing gonna convince me otherwise.

It's a valid opinion, one I shared back then. Will be interesting to see how I feel when I've played both remakes.

Think I used it once when you need to after first picking it up and then it was left in storage the rest of the game. Think I did the same in the OG too.

I kept the flamethrower handy for those little fuckers that are introduced after you pick it up. Seemed fairly useless for everything else, though.

The secondary fire is massively slept on, it creates a wall of fire that slows/stops enemies and crisps them up nicely while doing so. Primary is bobbins as you need to use to strip skin and then use another weapon to sever.

I absolutely despise those slender men, the sound is up there with the Regenerators from Resi 4. Brrr.

I kept forgetting about secondary fire for a lot of the weapons. Did find the game easier this time around though, no real tricky bits.

I started this a couple of weeks ago and while it's good, I haven't found it scary at all. Not even a little bit. I even started again on hard, which adds a bit of tension but it's just not getting me Isaac just feels too strong. Cutting off limbs is a cool idea but in practice it's really easy with the plasma cutter, especially as getting rid of the legs slows them right down even before you throw in stasis. The game only really has one trick too - walk into an empty room and wait for monsters to jump out of the vents. It's much more action horror like RE4 than survival. Never felt in danger of running out of ammo or anything like that. Also haven't felt the need to try any other guns apart from the flame thrower for the fatties Speaking of, the fat ones waddling along and getting stuck in doorways is just funny, as is being chased around a table by a necromorph. I do like the setting and everything but I don't feel excited for it. Haven't played it for a bit (about 2/3 or half way through I reckon). I think it just feels a bit too samey, running through visually very similar areas all the time. I can remember practically every area and encounter of RE4 I was already aware of the twist before I started, which might be affecting my ability to get invested. Probably didn't help that I played it right after my first playthrough of the RE4 remake either Of the horror games I've played recently, only Remake 2 has really scared me, not only because of Mr X, but especially because of him. I know precisely when and where he spawns yet I still feel anxious playing it knowing he's going to show up at all. Definitely not immnune to being scared playing games though
edit: I think enemies dropping items affects the atmosphere as well, making it feel more gamey and, as I said, I'm never worried about running out of resources. In traditional survival horror, there's no real reward for killing enemies, you're just using up resources. Being rewarded for killing enemies kind of takes away their power over you. It's a shooting gallery like RE4 but lacks the distinctive encounters

It's the sound that ramps up the tension for me, keeps me on edge throughout.

I am playing with headphones, but I switched to using ear buds not too long ago for comfort. I did wonder if that's affecting it. I might pick up a headset and try again. The setting and marker stuff is right up my street, it's just lacking in the spooky department

To be fair I've never found the Dead Space games actually scary. Tense sometimes, and stressful. Not scary though. I find that kind of fear only comes from being defenceless, and you're certainly not that. The only actual scary bits in the franchise I thought were the spooky bits with Nicole in the second one.

It could be an expectations thing. Might sit on it and start again and just enjoy it as a good action horror game, like a lesser RE5 or something
Oh there is another trick the game does, when an enemy spawns in front of you, there's probably one behind you as well

The scariest bit of the Dead Space franchise is actually in DS2 when you return to the Ishimura. You literally play for about 10 mins and don't get attacked at all, you are on edge the whole time just waiting for something to happen.
I don't particularly find games scary, but that moment was a little unnerving.

How was this? Just realized it’s on sale with GamePass. Technically I could play it for free with GP, but $8 for the Deluxe Edition seems like a steal, if it’s good.

The fact its only a few quid for the deluxe edition is mental. Buy it, no questions. [Edit]. I forgot about Boulders Gate 3. Dead Space was second best game of the year for me

I think the scariest aspect of both Dead Spaces (I don’t count the third) was always the setting itself. The same with Alien Isolation. I find being in decrepit space installations or craft where the environment is as dangerous as the antagonists just inherently unnerving. The Sunshine factor.

Yeah I am really annoyed that it doesn't look like we will get Dead Space 2 Remake. The 1st remake was amazing and a sequel had the potential to eclispse this.
Majorly disappointed here. I'm just greatful that DS2 and DS3 are available through back-compat on Xbox and still look great and play at 60fps. I played them all through a couple of years ago and they are still a great experience.
