I vaguely remember learning about the origins of antibiotics at school. I'm pretty sure they touched on vaccines too. Really you need to get that knowledge into people when they're young so they're not entering adulthood from a position of overwhelming ignorance.
I've said it before but there really must be something wrong with the way science is taught at school. It should be the most fascinating and enlightening subject, yet the amount of people who come out without the most basic understanding of anything vaguely scientific suggests that's not how it's been presented.

You've still got people reaching adulthood in the UK who can't read or write. Those who get excluded or put into special measures or just don't go. Many people seem to get their knowledge from their Facebook page and sadly don't seem to have the ability to research beyond what they're being shown in their feed.

Really speaks volumes about the character of many anti-vaxxers and suspect we will see these scenes play out elsewhere considering the social media bubbles in which they operate. Stating the obvious but these fuckwit cretins don't realise that with Delta the policy now seems to effectively be a binary choice between; a highly vaccinated population keeping down hospital admissions/deaths in a more or less 'normal' society -OR- high deaths and a literally overwhelmed health service leading to harder lockdowns for grim practical reasons. These motherfuckers want all the freedom to go out clubbing and to finger each other down the park but they aren't willing to take a jab to have it. Fuck 'em. Tough shit. A jab to go out fingering is basically a bargain. None of us 'wanted' to get vaccinated but unfortunately it has to be done. It's the price we pay - and these knobheads are trying to blag free entry. Back of the queue, bitches. youtu.be/i_Ew4bVvvj0

It's astonishing, the past few Saturday mornings I've went past one of the testing centres in town, there is always a queue hundreds of metres long. that's all the cunts queuing up for hours every weekend so they can go out that night, they'll queue for hours at least weekly and pay for it, rather than get a free jab. WTF are you supposed to do with them.

I don't know what it's like in the UK, but I would love to see science classes not just teach facts and formulas but also take the time to teach the scientific method. Or maybe a new class that teaches basic scientific epistemology and can go through stuff like true belief vs knowledge, the difference between a theory and a hypothesis, anecdotes and data, causation and correlation, how a simple scientific study should (and shouldn't) be designed, the basics of probability, and so on. Basically install a bullshit detector in everyone's brains rather than just filling them with facts that can be overwritten by someone coming along and saying "Nah, uh, the Earth is actually flat. Do you see a curve?".

We're at over 90% vaccination rate here, so restrictions are basically not a thing anymore. But still I get abuse from people - several times a day - when I tell them that they need to show proof of vaccination before they enter my workplace. Most of them are vaccinated (or so they say), so what the fuck is the problem with showing it? Aaaaargh, people are the worst

We live in the post modern era where rationality has been exposed. Now obviously anti-vaxers aren't thinking about any of this..

Worth a read How do you argue with anti-vaxxers who believe they’re on a noble mission? I have given up on the idea that facts alone will change a zealot’s mind, but a conversation shouldn’t be a battle for status or pointswww.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/nov/20/how-do-you-argue-with-anti-vaxxers-who-believe-theyre-on-a-noble-missionWhat happened in Holland was horrible by the anti-vax filth. Australia is also suffering from anti-vax scum When the Brisbane crowd was asked by a protester giving a speech what they thought of the Queensland premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, someone yelled: “Hang the bitch.” It came after Queensland MP Brittany Lauga contacted police after she and other members of state parliament received an email with “threats of terrorism, extremism and violence”. “I understand local doctors have been sent death threats and other threatening letters,” she wrote on Twitter. www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/nov/20/australia-covid-protests-threats-against-traitorous-politicians-as-thousands-rally-in-capital-citiesthe time to take the gloves off with these cunts as they are sending death threats and attacking people in various countries and still spreading bullshit which means covid is still a problem. If these fucks catch a rubber bullet in the face or body then who really gives a fuck?

The last paragraph in the first article nails it really.
"All you can do is turn on the light, let them do the work and hope they eventually come to the right conclusion."

I've been saying for ages people need to stop making excuses for these pricks. It's nothing to do with lack of being educated, not knowing how the vaccines work, all the information is there in the palm of their hands and they simply don't care. It's not about freedom or any of that nonsense, they simply don't care and get a thrill out of being anti this and anti that.
About time we just start being anti them and vaccine passport everything, if they don't want it then tough shit, enjoy sitting at home.

The funny thing about the protests in Melbourne, is that they literally came on the day after most restrictions were lifted. No density requirements, no masks, no travel restrictions. Some of those things require proof of full vaccination, but for more than 90% of people (and growing) that isn't an issue.
They are screaming about nothing at all.

Ehh, the Aussie ones are mainly those roided up RW agitator thugs with names like Blair and Captain Dickhead. They'd be bitching about something and fighting among themselves anyway, virus or no virus.

Most of what you do in science from year 7 onwards is developing hypotheses and then a repeatable method to test them. Yet I'd be willing to bet money that a sizeable majority of people don't know that the purpose in an experiment or study is to try to disprove a hypothesis rather than find positive evidence for it. It's the *why* you do things a certain way rather than *how* you do it that I'd like to see more of.

As someone said here, you'd be surprised about how many people can't count their change given in a shop let alone the scientific method. But this group doesn't necessarily overlap with the anti-vax lot. Corbyn's brother is not thick is he; he knows how the scientific method works, but he's a bellend, so what can you do? Enough of us are reasonable enough though to counter out the idiots. And just to be clear, low IQ != Anti Vaxxer.

The main NHS booking site is doing booster appointments for over 40s now, on the off chance there are some here.

Over 40s can book from Monday It's working now apparently but you have to be 40+ with 5+ months since your 2nd jab before you can book. I fit the former but got to wait until the 29th this month for the latter

Why? In the UK we've had COVID rife amongst our population for months. Unless you think there's some sort of new variant at play, but there's been no indication of this.

I know we had rising numbers but last thing we need is more people from places that have surging numbers. If you look at that graph in the link, Austria and netherlands have much higher cases. Seems a really bad idea to have people from these places before people get their boosters

Seems a really bad idea to have people from these places before people get their boosters ZOE app recently estimated 1 in 50 people having COVID in the UK. Having a handful of travellers from Europe will make precisely fuck all difference, not least because they'd be testing before getting on a plane anyway.
