Well, that's our Christmas sorted... Yesterday no problems (even did my ring dips and pull ups in the morning), then headaches all night, tested positive for Covid in the morning I thought it was a mild case of the flu or something, but my wife told me to take a test anyway. Her family would have come over on Sunday (I like her family better than mine, so that's a genuine shame). So now I'm locked up in my home office. At least I have the coffee machine and the Switch here First time I have it. Not impressed so far. Headache (doable), light fever and some mild coughing/sneezing. But yeah, I don't dare come close to the rest of the family.

Being cooped up with a coffee machine & switch sounds like a good plan.
Hope recovery comes soon!

Day 12 of testing positive. Feel pretty much fine but don't want to be a spreader.
Really fucked off, 12 days of not leaving the flat, bored as hell and missed out on ice skating, Christmas shopping etc, and now likely to miss Christmas with the folks and family.

As are those your local rules?
UK is isolation for only 5 days. If you feel fine you can then mingle. In any case it is not going to be contagious by day 12.

The U.K. still isn’t a rule, without checking I’m not even sure if it’s the official guidance anymore even though it’s a good idea. Completely ignoring it is definitely the plan now, at least some workplaces now encourage people to not come in when they feel unwell, whether it’s this or a cold.

Its in general circulation now and is basically just another flu like virus that we live with. Isolating for 12 days with it is insane.

My mom is vulnerable and I would never forgive myself if I gave it to her. I am happy to pop to shops now but not spend time with the family just in case.

Did a proper "run like you mean it" run - a month after testing positive. 2.5 miles steady with sprints.
Jesus fucking christ.

Are we going to get a nice new strain as the mistakes of 2020 are repeated?

Are we going to get a nice new strain as the mistakes of 2020 are repeated? Not sure how it can matter how many come in with it at the moment can it? It’s basically freely in circulation pretty much everywhere.

EU saying it's unfair to test Chinese travellers now. Feel I have to disagree with them on that one.

I'm excited to find out what new strains they've been cooking up over there and whether our homegrown ones will be able to see them off or not.

Funnily enough they have got a new iteration of Omicron doing the rounds, not any more severe but more infectious.

Thanks, chaps - much appreciated.
Off to bed for me! We'll see what the next couple of days has in store, virus-wise.

Does anyone have recent-ish experience with COVID-induced loss of taste? More specifically, how long things took to return to normal in this regard (assuming they did)?
The rest of it - the sore throat, congestion, feverishness, lack of sleep, cough, headache, lethargy, etc. - I can live with, but if I don't regain my ability to taste sometime soon, I'm gonna need one of you chaps to pop 'round and put me out of my misery.

I had loss of smell and reduced taste in the summer, it only lasted a few days. My mum on the other hand hasn't got hers back nearly a year after she lost it.

Meant to be less of a symptom with the dominant variant at the moment, but not unheard of.

First time about 18 months ago and totally gone for about 3 weeks. It has never fully returned but did get back to 90 per cent or so.

Thanks, guys.
I felt okay for the first 36 hours or so after testing positive, then I started to feel progressively crappier; however, waking up today and finding myself unable to smell or taste anything was a new low.
Here's hoping it's a temporary state of affairs.
