Itβs basically in the same place as the vaers system - because all the data is reliant currently on self-reporting its conflated by panic and generally misunderstood in the public eye.

How are my covid brethren? I'm on day 3 (symptoms anyway) and still feel shite! Keep well π Day 5 for me, feeling mostly ok but pretty bored in my quarantine den.

Long covid can be as little as a bit of a cough 4 weeks later. It seems a bit pointless worrying about it at the moment. Well I know who still have breathing issues, memory issues and screwed up taste and smell so I'll keep being cautious. www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jun/21/covid-surges-europe-ba4-ba5-cases"Health expert Dr Damien Mascret told France 2 television that the BA.4 and BA.5 variants had led to significant excess deaths in Portugal, adding that hospital admissions in France were up 27% and intensive care admissions 17% in a week." We've had enough of experts though, right?

I have been in my "man cave" since Wed midday and although I have everything in here I am bored and miss playing with my boy (and spending time with daughter, missus) My baby girl is 16 tomorrow and I feel like shite and am still "contagious" (at least I assume) so will have to celebrate from a distance. I cant be arsed to play any games, so mainly listening to music and watching tv, but even doing that feels boring. Can't wait to feel better.

Are they opening the windows etc.. in schools over there? Haha. Covid is officially over, nothing is done , nothing whatsoever . The policy is for everyone to catch it over and over , the logic being that itβs not killing many people any more so let it rip , freeeedom! ( completely ignoring scientific opinion, ignoring the increased likelihood of mutation , completely ignoring the increase in long Covid and chronic illness). Itβs utterly insane, I cannot for the life of me, understand it. βLiving with Covid β doesnβt mean βfind a balance between living life to the full and protecting public health β it means fingers-in-the-ears la-la-la-la pretend Covid doesnβt exist. As I posted above, lessons learned such as how essential it is for the future to improve indoor ventilation everywhere are being ignored, as shit and illogical as Japanese politicians are, at least theyβre not doing that.

Nothing is ignored here, it's just put into context. The health minister has repeatedly stated measures like masks might come back if the circumstances make them necessary. Remember that the reason for most measures was the health care system mustn't collapse. We're far from a collapse now thus there's no reason for further measures. Yes, there's still a virus around. Like there was all the last couple of decades. Protection and freedom always have to be weighed against each other. Nobody is ignoring the facts but panic is not a good advice. Also Switzerland has a long tradition of putting responsibility into the hands of the citizen. And I'd argue we've done quite well in the past with a few exeptions. Measures are there to try to control a situation to a certain degree but not to prevent an illness. The story mentioned about the person catching covid despite wearing a mask all the time is exemplary. You can minimize risks but you can't control life.

Want to wear a mask and take precautions then go for it, no one is stopping that. Expecting or hoping anyone will is wasted effort and worrying about something that you arenβt going to influence.
As per the last 200 pages of this thread really.
Restrictions are over and will be unless deaths start to rapidly increase.

Where risks aren't being minimised, they're being ignored entirely. It is, "the circumstances make them necessary" is simply when there is a danger of hospitals overflowing, that's the only thing that the policies are based on, over and over the health minister (like in the UK) has ignored the advice of the relevant experts. Countless of them insisted that removing every single measure was not the right thing to do. As for Switzerland doing well with Covid, despite having one of the best health systems in Europe, one of the healthiest populations and being the richest (bar Norway maybe) they are sitting in the middle when it comes to deaths per capita in Europe. It's quite simple, do you try and minimise death and illness or not? We've decided not to.

The advice of experts have not been ignored, stop saying that. They just have been outweighed. Everyone is a tough guy in the armchair.
Also please tell me: What's your exit strategy? Masks for infinity?

Masks for infinity? Exactly this. Deaths and illness is a major factor but not the only one. Taking other precautions when the risk is so low means they wonβt be used if/when theyβre really needed and also thereβs all the other impacts that have been considered. This government got timings wrong throughout but we are where we are now.

Broadly speaking we go by community spread rates as to what restrictions happen. Goes up to high, most stores and offices start mandating masks, being more rigorous about spacing, etc etc. Goes down, they go back to recommended. The thing thatβs notable about this is one does not trend to the other - ie mask requirements dropping does not predicate a rise in cases. There are too many other factors in play that influence it way more, vaccination and booster rates, seasonal events and travel, what particular strain is dominant etc etc.

Masks for infinity? My strategy:- Relax measures when cases and infection rate are low, increase when high and increasing, i.e. not remove all measures in the middle of winter with sky high case rates.
- Keep easy measures such as mask use indoors in small areas with little ventilation but encourage and subsided FFP2/FFP3 masks.
- Improve ventilation and filtration in all indoor spaces, public transport etc.
- Make tests free and encourage testing (deemed essential by epidimiologists)
- Only remove all measures when vaccines are good enough and there is a scientific consensus that it is safe to do so.

The advice of experts have not been ignored, stop saying that. They just have been outweighed. By three advice of people who, by definition, know less about it? They might know less about this virus but you can be expert in other fields as I'm sure you're well aware. Just like covid experts might not know very much about, let'say, mental health issues. Expert in one field, not an expert in another. Covid-19 is not an isolated phenomenon, it happens in a world with so much more going on that needs to be taken in consideration. But everybody has different things and values they hold dear of course.

[/quote]See, I agree with most of it apart from your last point. You want "safety", whatever your definition of it means. My hotvtake is: Life is not safe. There have always been illnesses. We should make everything to help vulnerable people who can't protect themselves. Everything else is going too far.

Out of curiosity what is the deal with the vaccine passports for traveling to Eu countries? I don't plan on going anywhere but just notice mine expires in August and I doubt they'll be jabbing me with another booster anytime soon.
