Is there any good info on long covid yet? I keep hearing people say 10-30% get it etc, but everyone I know has had covid (50+ people) mostly multiple times and the only 2 people I know with long term symptoms had og covid that fucked them over for 6 months but are better now.
I haven't seen anything in the news about long covid really, and with 2.5 years of data we should be better informed now
If 10% of people every time had long covid with people I know getting covid every 3 months I would have expected to see a much larger rise in hospital admissions and news articles.

No way its 10-30%. Depends on how you define ‘long covid’ but even if you define it as any persistent symptoms beyond a week or two it’s still nothing like that high, and that will still only be in known cases of covid. I’d be surprised if it’s even 1% of all infections.

I think everyone at work has pretty much had it and almost everyone I know on top of that. One has long covid and been off for 7 months now but that's because it's a physical job. They are trying to find him a different role in the company.
All in all it adds up to about 200 people and one has long term effects. Anecdotal I know but a big enough sample to cast doubt on the up to 30% claim

The nursery sent an email around this week saying they were seeing lots of cases. Boy had a bit of a fever last night, and just tested positive. 🙁

“Long Covid” is such a nebulous term it’s not possible to gauge. It has no formal definition or range. The one attempt the WHO made about a year ago was roundly rejected by pretty much everyone for being shit.

Also, you can anticipate there being very little info on long Covid for a long time yet. Long flu exists, for instance, and the whys behind that are still quite a mystery.

Cheers. He's getting all the calpol he can take, and doesn't seem to bad except when it starts to wear off and fever creeps back in. I know it's generally not thought to be to serious in babies/children and ask of his cousins have had it at some point and been fine, but it's still not nice knowing he has it.

wow, you're still around after your daddy left! Ooh you showed him. It's starting to go around my daughters nursery now. Seems a matter of time before she gets it. Somehow she hadn't had it before and has been for 3 negative tests during the height of it. I can see you're sensitive so I'll back off now. Best of wishes to your daughter though. Hope she stays healthy.

That one was 2020 though, a best guess one. I haven't seen anything recent. On another note my mate just tested positive trying to get into NZ. Fully N95 masked up in flights, absolutely paranoid and all precautions, and picked it up on the plane. He is not a happy bunny. He complained to the staff on the flight itself about other people not using masks properly and was told not to worry

3% of population , not of Covid infected, not that it will change that much. Could mean 5% I suppose.

That's just how it goes.

So yeah from the moment he left his place that was it. I mean that's just the way things are unfortunately, you're just going to get Covid.

The point is that you can plan and try to control as much as you want but most people are going to get Covid someway or another. Yes and I know you are going to say you haven't had it yet and you take alllllllll the precautions but it is inevitable if life involves you having to interact with the outside world.

Long covid can be as little as a bit of a cough 4 weeks later. It seems a bit pointless worrying about it at the moment.

One of the biggest challenges right now in terms of identifying post-Covid syndrome stuff across population (aside from the lack of definition), is that it’s tied up in this significant overlap of, for lack of a better term, inflated hypochondria. Because it’s all self reported there’s people who have legitimate long term symptoms, but also people who have existing conditions that they’re now paying attention to and mistakening for long Covid, and those who are worried that every cough, ache and headache is part of it too. It’s a catch 22 in that proper legitimate population health studies may not be possible until the hype and scare settles down.
