Bah, I've got it. First time I've tested positive. Feeling pretty grotty but not too bad I guess. Problem is my wife's got a cycling trip around the Isle of Wight next Wednesday that she's dead excited about. I'm going to make her miss that aren't I ☹️

You'll be fine by then imo. Certainly able to look after yourself!
Round the island is a great event. You don't get a huge number of big climbs, there's just a lot of slightly smaller ones!

Ha yeah I'll be fine, I mean that she'll probably catch it just in time to be too ill to go.

Ah, there is that. As above though, no given that she'll catch it.

Don't worry, she'll like it in there.

Friend of ours just had coronavirus, first time. She worked as a volunteer during the first wave as well. Tested positive for 8 days! All fine, but lost out on 9 days of work.
Seems this time around it's a lingering fucker.

I think it's not uncommon to test positive even after the NHS guidelines of staying home for 5 days.
When I catch it again in not testing daily. Not now free tests have ended. Give it five days, if I feel well I'm off out again.
Not sure I really care if I catch it again. If it happens it happens.

Yeah, that seems to be the best approach imo. For kids, it's only 3 days isolation recommended!

Its a weird one. Because I WFH, I went back to work when I felt better but if I hadnt.. I dunno. I know the vague guidance says 'whatever' but it didnt really feel right to leave the house while I was still testing positive.
Easy for me to say because Im full remote and get my shopping delivered but the reason I tested was pretty much to be as sure as I could be that I wouldnt give it to anyone.

If you can afford to avoid contact with other people while testing positive, you should do it, no matter what the guidelines say!!!

I'd be happy to test regularly if the tests were free, not happy spending money though. At nearly 2 quid a test Im not going to test daily.

We thankfully still had a shitload from when they were free but we burned through almost all of them. I certainly wouldnt have been testing as frequently if I'd paid for them.

Some people test positive for months after. If it's the same as last time, it was about 10 days that I started to feel better anyway. Although anecdotally, those I know who also had delta say omicron is more mild.

Don't think there's anything anecdotal about it, Omicron is pretty widely agreed to be a milder variant. Definitely wasn't a patch on whatever I had in Feb 2020 although obviously vaccines will have made a difference too.
We're down to the last box of free tests now, as had to give some to my missus' brother (tested positive last week and had to cancel a NY work trip). Also gave a couple of boxes to her parents, because it was so bloody hard to click a link and fill in your name and address.

I got OG covid and it fucked me up so badly my toes turned purple. Ive had colds worse than unicron (not to downplay its serious and so on and so forth). Whatever caused it, this time around it certainly wasnt bad enough for me to adjust my behaviour to avoid getting it again.

I think I have like, 4 or 5 tests left.
If/when they run out I will buy a box, but those also need to last. So yeah, very much going by the NHS guidelines.
I know it's very wrong and unhelpful to think this, but I have to admit part of me almost wants to see cases run away again and cripple the economy, just to stick two fingers to the government's strategy of ignoring it.

Massive downturn in symptoms compared to yesterday but the T line today still nuclear. I'm taking a second day off work (which is largely WFH) just to ensure the stress doesn't stop my recovery.
Been way worse than a cold for me and I am double vaxxed with Pfizer.
If I show a similar improvement tomorrow I may test again at the weekend just out of interest but at this point I am starting to wonder if symptoms are gone will it just be residual proteins or whatever showing up. Legally I can go out right now.

I think with a competent government our 'return to normality' wouldnt look massively different for the majority of us. Where they have fucked up is the complete lack of guidance and support for the minority who cant just get on with it.
And the structural changes we dont see like ventilation guidelines and whathaveyou that seemingly went out the (now closed) window

@drake Legally you could've gone out whenever you wanted. It's all just wishy washy guidance at the moment. Thankfully people seem to mostly be being sensible for the most part and staying at home if they can.

I think the NHS guidance isn't that wishy-washy tbh. It's fairly clear advice. The government and legal guidance on the other hand is now non-existent.

@nick, yep, there were things they could have done to ensure things were safer across the board...improved air filtration in schools, hospitals, courts etc being one, with funding for the private sector to upgrade too. But no donors run those sorts of companies...

Those things would also just improve general health too, of course.

It appears that the guidance states that you should if possible stay in for five days. I've done that.
The law seems to be shunting us towards the old early Tory ideas of licking door handles to get herd immunity.
A friend had very mild symptoms and had to carry on working because he'd only get SSP and can't support his family on that. And legally he's done nothing wrong.
Ethically I don't want to be risking people.

The guidance for adults in the general population in England is currently to stay at home and avoid contact with others if you have symptoms, until you no longer have a temperature or feel well enough to go back to normal activities.
No time specified, no testing needed.
There's different guidance if you are at high risk or work in high risk settings. And different guidance if you live in Wales, Scotland or NI.

This is the current NHS guidance www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/main-symptoms/What to do if you have symptoms Try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people if you have symptoms of COVID-19 and either: you have a high temperature you do not feel well enough to go to work or do your normal activities Take extra care to avoid close contact with anyone who is at higher risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19. You can go back to your normal activities when you feel better or do not have a high temperature.

I can pass on to the publishing team if the guidance is incorrect elsewhere if you can share the link.
