Two of my boy's school friends (both 8) have it right now, both similar symptoms - high fever, vomiting and raised heart rate. One has ended up in hospital . When my boy got it a month or so back he had none of those, so I wonder if it's this new variant? Both parents have said their boy can't keep calpol down, just vom it back up, so can't control the fever, nightmare.

Positive for me this morning. Thought I'd dodged that bullet, but my throat started getting sore yesterday afternoon.
Of course it happens when I've booked a bit of time off work!

No one’s said that in this thread, so I don’t think you’ve been reading it. Just making up things that fit your narrative again, go ahead and post us a us a link to some studies again big chief

Just like every other coronovirus in existence. We have no lasting immunity to any of them, but as immunity fades we get repeated exposure and a less severe illness.
I'm not really sure what exactly ecosse thinks the alternative endagame is.

Part of his end game is definitely to keep spouting shite on here for attention when he is feeling lonely

The fact that he thinks he's somehow not going to a catch an endemic hyper contagious airborne virus which will be in general circulation for the rest of time shows how little of an understanding he has of the situation. Unless he's just bought himself one of those bubbles.

New cases, deaths and hospitalisations on the rise but no mention of it. Yes I know there's a war on but still......

And unless you never do anything again, we are going to get it once or twice a year. I don't know, I'm doing stuff, I went out for dinner with mates on Friday night, had lunch with another mate last Sunday, have been to Italy and Spain in the last 7 months but haven't had it. My immune system must be amazing. Seriously, I think for people with kids you're probably right but for others who take precautions still, not necessarily. There is a middle ground between licking door handles and shutting yourself away in a room forever (I know you're not suggesting that there isn't but others seem to).

Even just doing those things, the chances are that you'll catch it. You may already have done and been asymptomatic - can't remember the stats, was it a third of cases?

I can't be sure of course, I've tested many times but could have been asymptomatic although with my shit unhealthy Scottish genes maybe unlikely

I think it will always be a danger to the elderly.. Exactly. And some vulnerable and those who are just plan unluckily. There are likely some genes that predispose to severe illness ( and those that protect). It's now a thing that is in the world andis going to kill a number of people every year. Life goes on.

I mean... what would you suggest? There's a multitude of illnesses out there that kills the frail and elderly that would simply be shrugged off by people our age. That's practically the medical definition of frailty. For example, a urinary tract infection can be fatal to to an frail person but just going to cause a bit of stinging when you have have to piss to young healthy person.
So what we going to do?

People left with chronic illnesses, fuck 'em. Life goes on. People who can't do their job any more, fuck 'em. Life goes on. Lot of people dying in Ukraine, fuck 'em, there are always wars, there are those just plain unlucky to live there, fuck 'e. Life goes on.
The callousness and disregard for long covid is a bit sad.

It's not his job to think of solutions, he only deals in strawman arguments and pithy buzz words you door handle licker.

Also there a non insane line of argument that prolonged isolation gives more time for whatever immunity you have to fade, so avoifsnt behaviour now could lead to more severe illness in the future if you're currently vaccinated.

Make more of an effort as a society to protect vulnerable people like that until the disease isn't as dangerous rather than the abandoning of all measures. And again, as you know better than anyone, it's not just killing elderly, I posted earlier that a healthy young mate of mine gets breathless going up stairs and can't smell or taste, another super-fit mate at work has heart and lung issues and exhaustion, 18 months afterwards.

You honestly think that finding a way of continuing as a society in the presence of n+1 illness is the same as saying fuck it lets kill people and callousnes.
Your obtuseness is offensive.
There will be a rolling vaccination programme for elderly and vulnerable, just as with flu, by all likelihood. We're already giving additional doses to the most vulnerable.
Life *does* go on. What else do you suggest?

What else do you suggest? Not doing away with mask wearing in indoor public spaces, significantly improve ventilation in buildings and transport, make an effort to prepare for future variants/viruses. Instll air purifiers on busses, stuff like they're doing in parts of Asia. Basically not hand-waving everything away and saying "Job done, freedom day, life goes on, have to live with it, no measures whatsoever required".

‘Life goes on’ isn’t a callous, shrug-your-shoulders thing. It’s an underlying fact.
