Weird how the Tory MPs that thought climate protestors blocking the M25 should be locked up for a decade seem to be big supporters of the protesters in Canada and NZ.

That's because the M25 protesters were protesting the WRONG THINGS. These Canadian protests are doing their democratic rights to oppose tyranny.

Heads up for those who feel they need to continue LFD testing, as of this morning you can now order to home once every 3 days.

Nope, you can inform them of your negative as you’re supposed to do usually but there’s no separate early exit thing, just runs on an honesty system All gearing up for the whole thing to be removed imo. Carry on doing LFTs (which we will shortly charge you for) if you wish, stay home if unwell with it, this is now on you. Surprised it took this long.

Surprised it took this long. I’m looking forward to the moment, just days before Russia invade the UK, when Boris tells us that - having followed the science at all times - he thinks we all need to take personal responsibility for defending the country, pays £37bn to a school chum for three thousand broken Enfield rifles and then fucks off to stay at Goldsmith’s private beach villa until it all blows over.

I don't have an issue with the removal of restrictions that much but I'm not so keen on the removal of isolation rules for people with covid. Some of us have employers that are really shit with sicknesses so will have to do a physical job whilst feeling like shit and be going into places like doctors surgeries and hospitals whilst being infected.

Exactly this. I think I said similar earlier on - if there was support for people with Covid to stay home, fine. But then I guess without test and trace, who would know etc...

The complete removal of isolation does seem like a bad move, and definitely something which would need to be reversed if there is a stronger mutation in the future. And the worry is we will spot that late, and with the mishandling of everything so far, trying to reverse any of todays announcements would be tricky from a compliance perspective. Then of course add in people who will be forced to go in, not only spreading it but having to work when unwell and it doesn't seem sensible.
LFTs are going to be available for a few more months, so people who need them should order a box every 72hrs (they changed it from 24hrs earlier today) and try and stock up a little. I'm lucky enough that I am sure my work will help provide them if needed for coming into the office, but many people won't be so lucky. They did hint more would be coming to offer LFTs to certain people, but will have to wait and see on that.
What annoys me though is "living with covid" has just become "ignoring covid and hoping the vaccines and any natural immunity continue to work". Seems there has been no learnings at all. Nothing about planning, monitoring, or what we are doing to ensure the numbers stay low once all restrictions are gone though appreciate there have been very few recently - wearing a mask on the tube and in shops has been about the only thing I've been asked to do.

What a mess. What sort of restrictions are in place currently? As Omicron is spreading freely around the country we're in a 'red traffic light' setting. The only thing this really changes is that large gatherings - gigs, festivals, nightclubs etc - are banned. We're supposed to wear masks in indoor public spaces, and many businesses require a vaccine pass, proving you're double-vaccinated. Businesses don't have to do this, but then they have to abide by restrictions around numbers and distances. Some professions such as healthcare and teaching require employees to be vaccinated, which is (supposedly) the beef the protesters have, although in reality they're mostly anti-vaxxers of some form. To me "I'm not anti-vax, I'm anti-mandate' is the vaccine/pandemic equivalent of 'I'm not racist, but...' Anyway, the protest has escalated a bit. The police have brought concrete blocks in to stop more cars coming in, and the protesters have retaliated by flinging shit at the police. Three coppers have had acid thrown at them, and this morning someone drove a car into a line of them, albeit slowly. They also been emptying their portaloos directly into the drains which has led to the council issuing a contaminated water notice over the harbour. Unconfirmed reports of sexual abuse in the camp too. Still loads of kids there too... I've tested positive. Fuck. Calling the GP when they open as I should be eligible for the antivirals due to my chemotherapy.
Could do without this though.
