I started looking through Beegees song titles to find an appropriate gag, but got distracted by "Fanny" on "Main Course"

You could go the Travolta direction and ask him if he has chills and whether they are are multiplying

Novax reaffirms his dedication to die on this hill. Reputation, money, glory be damned! I almost admire the steadfast dedication to idiocy www.bbc.com/news/world-60354068

Novak making the mistake that people care about his opinions on vaccination, when it’s the fact he’s a lying piece of shit who thinks he’s above the rules which we find so disagreeable

You would've thought the BBC had a duty of care to not publish dangerous shit like that. It's just fueling the fire for the dribblers like him.

Anybody think they've experienced long covid, or more specifically your kids have?
My four year old daughter had Covid a few weeks ago (only had symptoms for two days) but since has had colds, stomach aches, rashes, headaches and temperatures on and off. I think the guidance is to wait for four weeks (unless anything serious) before going to the doctors which I'm sure we'll do if they persist but if it is that it's grotty as the poor kid hasn't been herself since she had it.
Just wondered if other posters had experienced this.

My son (primary school) had Covid late November, but since then has gone off a lot of food. It wasn't an issue during (he had practically no symptoms at all) and hard to pinpoint when it started, I think he was eating things for a while that didn't taste right before saying anything. He's completely gone of meat and even some very simple things he used to enjoy (carrot soup being one) now taste horrid to him. Of course there's no way to know if its Covid related for sure, but it's a common enough association it's currently our best guess.

I might stock up on LFTs before they turn the free supply off.

Thanks for sharing though, can relate to the food thing too, her appetite has completely gone this week and she won't eat any food she usually loves (I think it's because it all tastes weird to her at the moment). Bloody school, she was completely fine and then one case on her class and everybody was coming down with it.

Switzerland has decided to copy the UK and abandon all measures except for masks on public transport. It's fine to squeeze beside people in a tiny shop without masks but no gon on a train. Bizarre.
I really will never understand the desperate rush to get rid of mask usage.

Poor girl just couldn't stop this morning - really feel for her but feel powerless apart from Calpol/cough medicine. Not 4 weeks yet, so will keep an eye - feel for your daughter with those ongoing symptoms.

I don't want to start all this shit again, but why try to delay things now? Hospitals are in no danger of collapse. So what's the actually point of trying to control it now? Isn't the best option to let everyone catch before immunity from vaccines fades any further? Then once it's in general circulation (which it pretty much is anyway now) natural immunity starts taking over.

Horrible when they have persistent coughs, just so annoying. Sorry your daughter is suffering too.
Bloody Covid.

Isn't the best option to let everyone catch before immunity from vaccines fades any further? Then once it's in general circulation (which it pretty much is anyway now) natural immunity starts taking over. For one, because there are people who really don't need to be catching it at all (I know, I know, people with preexisting conditions don't count as humans when it comes to Covid discussion). I personally don't want to catch the thing until the long covid risk is minute. We've no idea what will come in Autumn, maybe an even weaker variant than Omicron, maybe something very different and much more dangerous. Then we'll again go from "Freedom day, Covid is over" to "masks on again, turns out it's not over after all". Despite the insistence in this thread, it is in no way a given that It's on it's way out. www.cnbc.com/2022/01/25/the-next-covid-variant-will-be-more-contagious-than-omicron-who-says.htmlShe warned against buying into theories that the virus will continue to mutate into milder strains that make people less sick than earlier variants. “There is no guarantee of that. We hope that that is the case, but there is no guarantee of that and we can’t bank on it,” she said, noting that people should heed public safety measures in the meantime. What’s more, the next iteration of Covid may also evade vaccine protections even more, making the existing vaccines even less effective.

You said ‘for one’ and then didn’t give a second reason for abandoning measures for now.

How does people wearing masks stop people with pre existing conditions from getting it? Do you think covid is going to go away? Or are you saying people should be wearing hazmat suits when they leave the house for the rest of time.
I get that you're terrified of long covid, but what do you think is going to happen to bring the risk of that down? Your vaccine becoming less effective?

It’s not that the virus gets weaker, but your immune system gets stronger. Actually getting the virus is going to provide you more immunity to the current, and any imminent, mutation than a vaccine ever will. Locking yourself in your basement for another 2 years isn’t going to do you favours in the long run, it’s time to get used to being exposed to it while the risk of severe infection is low

Long covid sucks, being sick is shit, lockdowns have a massive mental impact. I’d rather deal with covid while getting on with my life than wait it out in fear from a hiding place while time ticks away

Might as well get out and have a life while things are ok. It could mutate into something worse at some point but there’s no point being one of a tiny number of people hiding away from it all.
I have sympathy for those with real medical issues that can’t risk getting it but the rest of the world has to get on with things, for now at least.
Want to wear a mask in shops etc then go for it, doesn’t matter what the rules are or what others are doing and you can’t change that.

(Or rather, just going to the pub)

Or are you saying people should be wearing hazmat suits when they leave the house for the rest of time. I get that you're terrified of long covid, but what do you think is going to happen to bring the risk of that down? Your vaccine becoming less effective? Because masks reduce transmission. I don't think it's going to go away anytime soon. I'm not "terrified" of long covid but I'd much rather not get it if possible, the risk of getting it will hopefully decrease with time and other variants/better vaccines but we don't know yet, for example how omicron is wrt long covid. Rushing to leTiTrIp and getting as many people as possible loaded up with chronic illness doesn't seem like the best approach to plenty of "experts". www.science.org/content/article/it-time-live-covid-19-some-scientists-warn-endemic-delusionAndersen, however, calls keeping hospitals from overflowing “a pretty low bar.” Bringing down overall cases, and thereby reducing transmission, remains key, he argues, to minimizing risks of Long Covid and protecting the elderly and immunocompromised from infection.

It really is so utterly fucking pathetic to come out with "We can't do Lockdowns forever", "Stay and hide indoors forever" etc. when someone is not arguing for that but suggesting that we shouldn't rush into getting rid of every single measure as well as giving up on testing properly and gathering data. It's mental.

Pointless arguing with someone who has such a simplistic understanding of the situation we're in. Good luck with everything anyway 👍

If it helps, there's still a good chunk of people wearing masks everywhere. I do when I remember but can't say it's all the time. The buck has been passed to us though now, for better or worse.

I’m still wearing my mask, it’s not an inconvenience. I don’t think anyone here is opposing you on that particular front
