I'm on what would pass as a commuter train and good lord it's empty. Intercity though so I don't know how many would normally take it but in my entire carriage of Transpennine there's about 6-8 people.
No wonder they're desperate for people to return.
I'll stick to working from home thanks.

Yeah I have a nasty cough and I've tested negative for nearly 2 weeks of daily testing. I don't know what the fuck it is but it's annoying and stopping me from sleeping properly. Probably a bit late now, but did you PCR?

Joy. Tested positive this morning. Been a bit iffy all week since I got back from girlfriends at the weekend where her son was having a small birthday do with his mates. One of whom tested positive Monday. Last night I was a rough as a badgers arse with high fever and shivering. Third test this week finally showed positive.

Probably a bit late now, but did you PCR? Nope it's only been bad enough to disrupt my sleep for the past 2 days. I even did an OK 10k run on Sunday. So I've just been going with the Lateral flows. I'm actually wondering whether I should go for a run today. I really don't want to risk long covid by overdoing it if it is just mild covid.

Bah. So the chap who I spent all of Monday with has finally tested positive. I'm hoping there's a chance of him not being infectious enough to breach what's left of my November post-Delta imunity and December booster, guess I'll know in a couple of days.
Personally, I'm staying in now for a few days, rather than running around shops with no mask on licking all the door handles on the way, but hey, that's because I hate freedom.

Finally got my booster (Pfizer all 3 times as they had no moderna in when I did my walk-in today) after having to postpone due to Boxing Day PCR positive. Juggling around work days off and walk-in opening hours to try and make sure I have a day off tomorrow which is when people on here seemed to suffer most. Back to work on Saturday but if I get through that at least I have one more day off.

I've spent almost two weeks in the same house as COVID kids and so far I'm negative. Feel a bit crap, but according to the LFTs is not COVID. Hopefully you'll be okay. Three jabs protects you pretty well.

More like four to six months and even after that they reduce risk of death significantly.
Being an a risk person with an art risk wife and father, I'm glad we're lucky enough to be vaccinated to this level. It's not perfect, bit it's a hell of a lot better than it could have been.

These healthcare workers on the 10 O’Clock News giving it “but mah freedums” over having to get vaccinated are boggling my mind. Like, how did they end up in these jobs if they don’t support life saving medical intervention?

I think I should get a tax rebate for avoiding any and all strains of Covid-19.
(So far)

Protection against severe disease remains pretty high, with a booster drops from like 90% effective to 80% effective after 15 weeks. Protection against symptomatic infection (Omicron) starts at about 60% and drops to 40% after 12 weeks and then continues to fall. Think it's fair to say if we expect vaccines to protect us against symptomatic infection (and thus possibly reduce transmission) we'd need boosters every 6 months unfortunately.

So it’s finally arrived in our house Middle child (5) tested positive this morning. Seems quite unwell but hopefully it’s short lived for her. No way we are avoiding it with her spluttering everywhere though. Most people I know have had it mild, so hopefully we will too.

Good luck Rob - you never know really. We all caught it really easily last time but that was nearly 6 months after the 2nd vaccine. No sign of it this time after 5 days with the boy, but we only had our boosters in December, so wonder if that was the difference.

Evidence emerging now that djokovic’s test results were fraudulent, just delicious. Australia should really ban him for life for that

Thanks for the comments everyone. We were boosted just before Christmas so protection should be pretty high. But we can't really make her isolate in the house at her age so we've just got to look after her and hope for the best.
We all had really bad colds over xmas that lasted about a month, so if it comes up milder than that I'll take it as a win.

But high infection rate with minimal hospitalisations?
I don’t think plan B will be back in the first half of the year.

But high infection rate with minimal hospitalisations? I don’t think plan B will be back until after the local elections. Fixed that for you.
