We have to call twice a day, at 7 and 4. HR told me last week to only call once per day to update test results and now the supervisors are like well it's not up to them. Absolute joke.

What’s the point of phoning twice a day? Other than some control thing what do they think it achieves?

Reminding people that they are in charge and they should feel shitty for having the temerity to be unwell.

Eldest has a temperature this morning. Had a headache yesterday and wasn't quite himself. Still negative on the flows but will obviously take him for a PCR. Wouldn't be an issue except we had to see the in-laws yesterday so worried about them more than anything. Now pinged up on the LFT. Is a confirmatory PCR still needed even with symptoms?

It’s so you can’t go on a day trip to the seaside after your 7am call, they want to hear you dying slowly in your bed Instead of sunbathing with a jug of pimms

Didn’t you all have rona fairly recently as well?

The best one about the phone call updates is when they try and tell you that you are sounding better. Like you've got to put on that voice a character does when they are about to die in a film and you couldn't possibly be unwell at the same time as being able to speak in a regular cadence.

Yeah, September. We've been boosted as have the grandparents, but as we were in their house yesterday, that's the main worry.

Did the eldest have it too back in September? That’s a quick turnaround for reinfection

Oh yeah I forgot about the timeline for omicron. I struggle to pick out any particular point in time over the last 2 years tbh

If it’s any reassurance, I had Omicron in early Jan and assumed we’d all get it, but my wife and kids never caught it. So fingers crossed.

Dougs Hopefully your Grand Parents boosters keep them safe. I've been getting a cough steadily over the past week since I went out to a pub. Two of my friends tested positive from a few days after that but I've been taking daily LFT's for over a week now and still nothing. I even managed to do an ok 10k run yesterday, feeling a little shitter today though. Wondering if I have it but my body is fighting it...and the cough is a symptom.

Yeah, this thread makes me grateful that my working conditions aren't as shit as they could be and aware of my ignorance. I had no idea that crap like that goes on I'm this day and age.

He's sat rinsing Zelda again, he's fine as long as meds are kept on top of.

They made a colleague take 10 days off work back when that was the recommended self isolation.
He was already fully WFH and practically had to beg HR to let him work towards the end as he was going stir crazy. Crazy how different companies can be. We need to find some middle ground and let your line manager know when you're feeling up for work again, just like any other sickness.

Yup. In time, employee rights will be eroded imo. Won't happen overnight, but will be chipped away at.

Did the eldest have it too back in September? That’s a quick turnaround for reinfection I think Omicron doesn't care if you've had a prior infection whether it was 2 months or 5 months ago. Whilst you'll have lasting protection against severe disease, you get very little symptomatic protection from being previously infected. Boosters seem to make the biggest difference but wane considerably after just ten weeks.

It's the same with WFH. Big firms in and around large metropolitan areas will absolutely shift to working from home being more the norm. But in smaller areas with smaller and middling businesses there's absolutely no way presenteeism will be done away with. It's more odd to hear of people working remotely, even so much as 1 day a week, already around here.

I had a bit of that with front line work, but not in central government. Depends on your manager though, I've always been quite lucky.

He's sat rinsing Zelda again, he's fine as long as meds are kept on top of. It was so easy being ill as a kid. Being ill as an adult sucks Seriously though, I hope he is ok and the rest of you avoid it this time. We have a couple of cases at the school and now quite a few at work. Someone with a Covid case in their house is here today (and this isn't even his normal place of work). Technically he is not doing anything wrong though. Problem is not everyone knows the situation and he is not wearing a mask etc. Think I'll just shut myself in my office all day.

Yup. In time, employee rights will be eroded imo. Won't happen overnight, but will be chipped away at. It will probably be ok for the high demand, high skill jobs where there are plenty of companies involved. For the rest, definitely fucked.

Always pretty much left to my own devices. I put in enough time. I have only once supported the questioning of sick leave in my team of 8, when somebody down my line management chain got covid the day they were supposed to be having a difficult performance discussion. But even that was done sensitively for mental health / wellbeing reasons.

Booked in a PCR. Blocked nose, sneezy and getting lethargic. Only come on this afternoon. Took an LFT and predictably negative but best getting checked.

They were my symptoms as well bud, tested positive on the 3rd day of doing 2 per day. Consistently positive since though.
