I don't know if this is the right thread but does anyone have any recommendations for some wireless earbuds? I've got a Pixel 5 and the Pixel a-series look like a good deal but I figure i'd ask in here before pulling the trigger.

I've got the Sony WFXm3 Wireless earbuds and they are great. V4 has been released too. Also got a pair of the Alexa earbuds when on sale for a present but not set them up yet. The pixels look good value though.

They can't match the sonys, but for something a little cheaper I'd recommend the Earfun Air Pros.
Touch controls are a bit wonky, but they sound good and the ANC and battery isn't at all bad.

You might be able to pick something up cheap on amazon. Theres a 30% warehouse sale atm. I just got some Sony MDR-7506 for like 50 quid.

I have some cambridge audio melomania's. Cost about ยฃ100, quite happy with them. Hold decent charge and are small(ish) and comfy. Work well with my pixel 4a.

The new Beats buds are getting some stellar reviews. My AirPod Pros have developed the annoying click sounds on ANC. Could get it fixed by Apple but I'm due an upgrade so I've got some of the slate grey (or whatever they are) arriving on Friday, right on time for 14 hour flight.

The Fit Pros look really smart, but no wireless charging is bs.

I've also heard very good things about these. My current buds are the Sony M4s, but obviously these are very expensive. My previous sets were the Lypertek Tevis, which are also very very good. I only traded up because I wanted noise cancelling, plus the Tevis protrude from the ears a bit and I sleep with them in.

If you're looking to splash some cash, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2s are absolutely brilliant. I used to main the Momentum wired over-ear cans before upgrading my phone to one without a jack and while they don't sound as good, they still absolutely bang.

The Pixelbuds A are good value for the money, but it might be worth keeping an eye out for the 2020 Pixelbuds as there's still some knocking around here and there. They cost a bit more, but have a few more features (like on-ear volume control and wireless charging) and a richer overall sound. They do tend to have more connectivity problems than the newer A series, though, from what I've seen. So buyer beware, I guess.
I'm using the Sony XM4s, which are excellent (but a bit pricey). Last time I checked, Amazon did have a 5 months interest free credit option on them to make the investment a bit easier to swallow.

But don't actually swallow them. I'm not joking, I woke up with one of them in my mouth once. I was more concerned about damage to the expensive earbuds at the time though!

I've got the Sony WF-XM3's, the XM4's look amazing but you can get the 3s for ยฃ100 less if you can live without the improvements (waterproof, smaller case, probably some other stuff).

I'm still of the opinion that you can't get the same quality by cramming a battery, driver, wireless module and DAC into those tiny earbud housings.
I guess there are some use cases that warrant getting wireless earplugs, but I haven't found one for me yet.

I walk a lot and big cans make my ears all sweaty....
My outside rule is temperature over 14 degrees earbuds, 14 or under headphones. Inside, yeh it's only ever headphones.

If you ever do any exercise they're pretty great for that.

For me, that use case is flexibility and convenience. Listening to podcasts etc in bed was a pain in the arse with wired earbuds and impossible with headphones (ime). And they're so easy to chuck in a pocket to have ehrnout and about. And then there's the dwindling presence of a headphone socket in phones. All depends how you listen to stuff though - sat at a desk all day, then wired cans are more likely to sound much better.

This is pretty cool if you want to take your audiophile/better headphones out and about. www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/fiio-btr3k-bluetooth-headphone-ampThe dac bluetooths into any source and you can plug any wired headphones into it. Connects to two devices, so you can have it paired with your phone and your laptop at the same time, has a microphone so you can do conference calls. Its really handy for taking better headphones into the office or when youre travelling. But, yeah, when im just popping to the shops or whatever, I just use the sony xm3 buds.

This - over ears aren't really suitable for out and about usage unless you carry a (fairly substantial) bag around with you everywhere!

I've got around 6 decent pairs of quality wired headphones (Sennheiser, Blue, AKG, Denon, Sony, B&O - In fact, I may have a bit of a problem, heh). But they're absolutely no use for chucking in a pocket when I'm out and about, listening to podcasts, pottering about in the garden, etc. and I haven't had a phone with a headphone jack for 2 years now. They're never going to be my first choice at home, when I'm after fully immersive listening, but for sheer convenience I'd never be without a pair of buds. Especially as I can wear just one if I need to keep an ear out for something going on around me and they automatically merge the stereo mix to mono.

Perhaps this should be in random musings but the Sony XM3's are quite possibly my best ever technology purchase of all time (apart from the consoles) just use them all the time, at work, at the supermarket, in the car sometimes, evening gaming sessions, just awesome. Using them in a car on a motorway their noise cancelling abilities is the work of the devil!

The Sony ones don't merge to mono when you only have one in though.
You need to go into the phone accessibility setting and change it to mono, which is a pain in the ass.

I love my over ear xm3s but the buds gave me a pressure headache after ten minutes of use. I was impressed with the sound quality and ANC though.

I was not arguing headphones vs earbuds, but cabled earbuds vs. wireless earbuds. Before wireless earbuds, there were people who complained about the poor quality DACs that were built into smartphones, but now they are supposed to put better ones into even more cramped space? I already found most cabled earbuds lacking in audio quality, but those wireless things are just pitiful in comparison.
And the convenience argument I don't really understand either. I've been doing sports for 30 years with cabled earbuds now, never had a problem (CD players with small buffers were problematic though for jogging in the 90s).
But hey, I also don't understand why anyone would want a wireless keyboard or mouse, so...I guess I'm just not the target audience for it.

I have that one, and a previous one by the same company. TBH I rarely use it because it's a hassle. The headphones I can use with it all have regular length cables, so you effectively don't gain any convenience over just plugging them into the phone, plus it's an extra thing to carry around and charge. Sound is ok tho. I used to use the more basic one more often, if only because it was a bit smaller and lighter. It's effectively like carrying an ipod shuffle... and all the kids think you're old-fashioned I find wireless earbuds much more convenient, but does anyone else get lots of interference? I think it might just be my phone having weak bluetooth. If I'm listening at home, or in the office, they'll sound perfect. As soon as I step into a crowded place or busy train the signal just starts breaking up. Not sure if it's the phone or the headphones... but I don't want to splash out on alternative ones if the issue is the phone.

I was forever getting myself tangled whilst exercising with wired earbuds. And untangling them was a pain in the arse. Plus, no socket is pretty much standard now - I know Apple have an expensive workaround but not sure if Android phones do. But as you say, different strokes and all that.
