Children’s books is such a cliquey inbred club though, instant money maker for the CELEBRITY author who doesn’t have to write anything decent as it’ll be published, reviewed, praised and heavily promoted by all their mates FTFY, but yes agree with you on that basis.

Yeah that’s what I meant. My youngest picked up a book called the dinosaur who pooped a pirate ship and it was such utter dribble I couldn’t believe it was published, then I saw the authors were two blokes from McFly and it all made sense

Ah yes we had one of them as well. It could shit itself back in time or something. At least that was over quickly, unlike Walliams books that never seem to end.

Hope you’re ready for the inevitable TV adaptations and/or movies of these books

Maybe I'm giving the McFly people too much credit, but that sounds like they did a 'what can we get away with' story.

Haha, that's absolute fucking gold. Surprised that he didn't seem to reply to any of the top comments... Most of the celebrity Reddit AMAs are pretty much just their publicist vetting the questions for the best ones. I think there was one with Woody Harrelson where it turned out he wasn't even there at all and it was just some guy responsible for his film's promo stuff making shit up and ignoring everything that didn't let him copy/paste his marketing material.

A friend of mine (Oxford professor, published poet, several novels etc) did a children's book. Said it was actually horrible to do as every single fucking image and line was vetted by his editor. "Does this encourage overeating? Is this body shaming? That is a stereotype "
Apparently a lot harder than it sounds to write a simple 16 page book about a hungry animal with rhymes. Did it when he had his daughter then decided high art was easier.

I remember that one, he was advertising the movie Rampart and it just spiralled out of control, like one person wanting him to confirm that he had banged his friend while she was still in high school and he was very famous at the time. Plus a lot of questions about weed.

The Morgan Freeman one was good. It was absolutely definitely not Morgan Freeman, yet the Reddit mods were desperately saying things like "guys I just spoke to him directly, look he's got a verified checkmark and here's a photo" which was a really bad photoshop. This is the photo

The Walliams ones are shite that have only been published because he’s a celebrity and half the country is as thick as mince, they just see them as ’fun’ kids stories.

It's probably comparable to how a lot of popular kids tiktokkers are just people making stupid faces with weird soundtracks. Low effort all round.

If Walliams wants to go the Dahl route then surely he'll have to start not liking Jews?

Does anyone remember Yolly and Molly from Nickelodeon?
One of them pied me when i was a kid, even though i won the little contest bit. They were supposed to only pie the loser.
Actually, aside from that i remember them being quite nice. My stepdad made me pose for a picture with them, which he then had printed out and they signed later on the day. I've not really had many brushes with fame.

As ever, Viz have this covered, with a recent advert - 'Have you had a half-arsed idea for a childrens book? WEBUYANYSHIT.COM will publish it, no questions asked. Just send us the manuscript and we'll send you a contract and get you an appearance on BBC Breakfast. Just look at some of the shit we've published - Scary grandma with orchard of hamburger trees - A Edmondson Children turn their teacher into a liquorice robot - R Brand Boy grows beard containing tiny pirates - C Higson Floating school catches band of criminal mice - D Walliams Something to do with a fucking talking helicopter - D Baddiel' One or more will exist one day.

Freeman: Just incredibly grumpy and reluctant to do anything - despite being contracted to do so. Harsh. That's me on any given workday.

Yeah, basically.
I say 'pie' but it was really just a paper plate with squirty cream on it.

I used to despise Paul Daniels after I was asked to help set up a stage for him. He was a complete entitled, short arse prick who thought he was something special and who treat us like scum. Debbie was there though and she was apologetically nice, especially when her grumpy ass husband fucked off.

He came across as a massive cunt in that Louis Theroux show so obviously he wasn't keeping his real personality on the dl.

Freeman, Wax and Walliams are no surprise in that list.
Edit: I really should look at the post time before replying

I've always found Martin Freeman quite depressing - just his face really. He's like the personification of a cardigan or beige

They're not terribly original but at least don't jar when read out loud. Speaking of which, if you're after good books for 9/10 to read to them, the Nothing to See Here Hotel series are great.

The Freeman thing is quite upsetting really, as I've loved him in The Hobbit, The Office and most of all as Watson in Sherlock.
He sounds from that story like he may have been having a bad day or is maybe just a bit of an introvert I dunno.
Corden is always a sad one as Gavin and Stacey was just so good, however if there was any of the real him in Smiffy that character was certainly not a good human.
David Williams now, I hate his books with a passion. Our little girl has to be pushed to read and she's actually too old for his stuff now but around 18 months ago his books would often be the choice.
They were completely counterproductive to what I was trying to achieve. Absolute nonsense with no plot, font size and type changing several times seemingly on every page, made up language, nonsensical and if I remember rightly quite fat shamey in one story. Quite harmful in terms of nurturing reading ability and good ethics.
One thing that irks me more than celebs being c#nts is the banality of what it takes to be a celeb and them being celebrated for the most spurious claims to fame in and of itself.
MasterChef for instance is a brilliant show to me but you can scarcely watch anything like that without it having being altered to a 'celebrity' version now. I'll generally have to look up about six out of seven 'celebs' on these things. And they'll be famous for being on Gogglebox for two seasons or for having dated someone or something.

I'll support you on the celebrity versions of things like MasterChef. There was on guy on there the other week who has ridiculous eyebrows and was some viral comedian on Tik Tok who I had never heard of. Are the audience for Tik Tok really watching MasterChef? I can't agree with being sad about Corden though. Cunt.

Can we get the thread renamed to "James Corden and other celebrity cunts"?
