Let's face it, once the assessments are done (which seems to be this week) there's not much for them to learn in school between now and January!

School play this week and I reckon practically nothing next week so she won't be missing much.

How’s the kids Dougs? My 6 yo woke up feel unwell this morning. Cold symptoms bit of a temperature. I just assumed it was the cold my mrs has, but she is convinced it’s strep a. Apparently that’s been going round the school, although they’ve been off since Tuesday as they’ve had a bit of upset stomach. Just done a covid test on her. It’s weird doing that and kind of hoping for a positive result so you know it’s not something else

Eldest went back to school on Friday. It properly knocked him for 6 for 4 or 5 days though. And he's still hacking his guts up. Youngest seems to have avoided that bug but my wife is still convinced that every little thing is Strep A. Even a spot on her hip sent her into a tailspin that it was impetigo. It is definitely not impetigo.

That sucks for your eldest, hope he gets better soon.
Little one seems a bit better. I honestly don’t know what people did before calpol.

It is definitely not impetigo. Mine thought that for our youngest. It was hand foot and mouth again. I’ve now had it 3 times in 3 years, pretty sure I’d never had it before in my life. At least it’s milder each time.

I think that's what the boy had. My mate over the road got the same 2 days after the boy's started and said it floored him. Sounded very much like flu. My daughter, my wife and I have all been vaccinated...
Hope she feels better soon.

We’ve dosed her up and she seems fine. She’s been vaccinated, as has my son, but I guess it’s a different strain. No vaccination for me or the wife (or the youngest). I guess we wait and see what happens now!

We've all been ill as well.
Son and daughter both had fevers this week which only lasted for 48hrs or so before feeling better, only to both wake up the following day covered in a spotty rash.
The quacks think it's just a viral thing, but prescribed antibiotics just in case because of the Strep A shenanigans going on, plus our son is Type 1, so they tend to err on the side of caution where he's concerned.
Visited 6 separate pharmacies trying to get the antibiotics mind you.
On top of that myself and the wife both have stinking colds.
This feels like the third or fourth time since the start of September something has swept through the house.
Bit sick of it to be honest, definitely the worst it's been in years.

Sounds nasty Pauly.
Daughter and wife woken up with a sore throat, with a couple of white spots on my daughter's. Managed to get the doc to call us back this afternoon - she has a history of tonsillitis so hopefully they'll just bash out the antibiotics.

Bit of a game changer for us to be honest, his HbA1c is back down at 5.2, so couldn't be happier with it to be honest. Completely out the window the last 4 days mind you, levels are all over the shop from being ill. How's your daughter getting on?

Yeah same, had the pump for the last year, loads better but levels are not quite as good as yours. Female hormones are kicking in now though which doesn't help! Had a bad night last night though, I changed the insulin and cannular at 7.00pm and she went to sleep @ 8.30pm then started rising and rising to around 21, no corrections worked. The cannular hadn't gone in properly so I had to change the insulin and cannular again at midnight which as you can imagine wasn't easy, she eventually started dropping at about 2am, twas a long night... Still a lot of ups and downs but the pump has helped massively. Glad your son is doing well

Parenting is hard, hope all your kids are doing ok.
Mine hasn't been great today. Definitely worse than yesterday. I'm hoping she is at the worst point at the moment and will start to feel a bit better tomorrow. Then its just hoping the rest of them avoid it.
Roll on summer!

Are they just having a high or should I change the cannula? Is the correction not working because they're still rising? etc, etc. To be brutally honest I don't sleep a great deal these days. It's a cruel joke that my son's levels are most volatile at night and flat as a pancake during the day. The whole thing has been a massive eye opener for sure. Like most people my view of Diabetes before this was very much what you see on TV, an injection before a meal and the odd snack here and there, if only it was that simple. An adult can self manage the condition with little to no effect on those around them, but a child is a totally different ball game. You're essentially micro-managing another human's blood sugar 24/7. I've said it before but I'd kill for that blood glucose watch Kristen Stewart wears in Panic Room. Still stewing over the fact it was complete science fiction. Fuck you David Fincher!

Yeah its 24/7 for us too, dexcom alarm on phones always going off in the night because she has tipped into the 14+ range. Night time is definitely the most volatile time for us as well. Type 1 in kids is really misunderstood, even by schools etc. nobody seems to understand how serious (life or death) it is if they drop and they are only kids so are not responsible for themselves (even though they want to be) in anyway. I've not watched panic room for years so don't remember that bit. I did watch Greenland last year though and his constant search for insulin for his son turned the movie into the most stressful movie I've ever watched (don't watch it if you haven't already). Not sure if you know but you can claim disability £ if you fill out all the paper work. It's not much, but it's not mean tested and every little helps.

Fingers crossed for you Clem. I feel quite lucky that I found some at the third pharmacy I called this afternoon for my boy. How have we reached a stage where we can't find medicine for children?

We think the little one may have flu now. We thought we’d escaped as her sister has been better for a couple of days now, but the little one took a bit of a sudden dive this afternoon/ evening. No fever yet but snotty, tired and irritable. Asleep now but very unsettled.
Feels like it’s been constant illness since we had covid back in September.

Oh no that’s shit. Hope the wee thing is perking up in time for Christmas.
Said before by many but I can’t recommend Calpol plug-in diffusers highly enough - stick it in as they’re going to bed, close the door tight and it’ll help them sleep at least.

It's so hard for them when they're young. Catch everything going and it goes all through the family. We all know it gets easier as they get older but that doesn't help when you're in the middle of it! Hang in there Rob!

It seems to get better once they reach 6/7, but it’s a long slog up to there. This year has been especially bad though. Hangover from lockdowns I guess. She was very unsettled in the night but didn’t fully wake again. She was saying her legs and arms hurt so sounds like flu aches. Vomiting is a symptom too I think. Just hope she is better for Christmas. My mrs is panicking that she’ll be ill for Christmas now. She was really ill last year too. Plus we’ve spent a load of money to go out for dinner and we’re looking forward to it. I think we’ve been exposed so long we probably would have got it by now (the older one has been in bed with me since she she got it). We’ll just have to see what happens
