Genuine question, I have no idea.
How many copies of baby's birth certificate do I need to buy? Off to register today, council is saying that I need to buy 3-5 copies @ £11ea, why? I was thinking just two, one main and a backup.

Think we just got two, if not one. Definitely not 3-5. It's like slipping into yesteryear when doing that, the registrar filling it all in by hand and some poncy signature all in a silly fountain pen.

Our youngest who is 4 keeps getting colds, like, one every 3 weeks. It's completely miserable for him and us but can only find the standard it's common for young children to get colds frequently response.
Worth a trip to the doctors or do you think it'll be fobbed off with the same excuse?
Not sure what they could actually do as an alternative.

It is pretty common. It eases off at about 6 or 7. Probably doesn't help that Covid meant that a lot of the bugs he might have got at pre-school, he's only getting now. Maybe get some multi-vits to boost his immune system.

We're in the early stages of iron supplements to see if that helps so it's a bit too early to tell but fingers crossed.
Think we might just go to the doctor to see if there is anything underlying there. My other half is a health visitor and she has this exact conversation with parents but even she is now wondering if it's happening a bit too often.

It can't hurt....chances are you'll be fobbed off and made to feel like paranoid parents but better that than something be missed.

This morning I took my 12yo to see a GP about his anxiety.
We've been concerned about it for a while (I may have posted in here about a year ago) - thankfully, it's not a problem most of the time. But it does get bad when we're out in busy crowds or loud places - he really can't cope with too much noise or other sensory stuff, and gets really upset in situations that his siblings (older and younger) are fine with. We tried giving him headphones on a recent holiday where there were loud shows in the evenings- but it didn't work, he was just miserable and couldn't concentrate on anything else. I had to get him out of there to somewhere quieter, and it led to some arguments between me and his mum because she said I was "pandering to him" and thought we should be making him learn to cope with it some other way.
The poor overworked GP, in our allotted 10 minute slot, basically said everything we expected her to - not too concerned as it only happens infrequently, just avoid those situations where possible, try some relaxation techniques, come back if it gets worse.
Anyway we're getting some better noise cancelling headphones, and some proper ear defenders if I get my way (although Mrs hedben thinks that's over the top, and doesn't want him to "look odd" in public). So that will hopefully help him cope if he's in those situations in future. I do still wonder if there's an underlying issue and what we're seeing is a symptom - but he's generally pretty happy and chilled most of the time, and hopefully the relaxation/focus techniques will help.

hedben Sony wh-1000xm4 are brilliant for noise cancelling, my boy has quite bad anxiety but that manifests itself around attending school unfortunately, GP's are basically useless with regards to anxiety and the like.

Ahh teenagers, the ability to get in trouble over nothing is astounding and not having enough common sense to know when to keep their mouth shut is baffling.

I tried guessing which song they would mawkishly slow down this year but, hats off, I never expected a blink182 cover by The Crash Test Dummies.

Has anyone on here been through a custody battle?
Sounds like a relative’s situation is about to get nasty and I was just curious what sort of things family courts take into account.
Him and his partner, both employed in management grade roles on permanent contracts, unmarried but home owning.
Her and hers, part-time and full-time but on a casual/agency basis, engaged, mortgage in just her name.
She’s got the kids now but he had them throughout the lockdown years. They currently share with her getting weekdays and him getting weekends. Although she leaves for work early and by the time she’s commuted back its basically just to make bedtime while her partner does the school run and meals.
All of the additional childcare (outside of school hours) is by his parents who’ll take the kids for up to two weeks if work commitments or whatever means neither parent can have them.
He’s also paying an agreed level of maintenance although she will ask for more if she needs to take time off work when they’re sick for example. No idea if she gets it though.

Sounds messy. The boy is unwell, has been off colour since Sat but has slowly got worse. Usual standard vital symptoms (shivers, nasty cough, temperature and vomming when the temperature doesn't come down). Was managing it ok yesterday but had a rough night as he refused to take paracetamol. He can take ibuprofen ok but struggles with paracetamol due to the lack of coating (and won't take Calpol etc). Obviously all the Strep A stuff has sent my wife into a tailspin. Pretty sure it's just a standard bug but might call the docs this morning anyway...

4 kids at my daughter's school and 4 kids at the school my wife works at have scarlet fever. We have the highest rate in the country. Eeeek.
Edit: 2 at my wife's school are in hospital.

Keeping the youngest off school is a genuine consideration. Eldest is just getting over the bug he had, so not concerned about him.

Our two are off for a couple of days with stomach problems. Just one end so far, fortunately. Seems to be loads of stuff going around at the moment, so many are off school. Just want to get to the end of next week so there can be a bit of a firebreak.
Tempted to keep my two off until next week now rather than send them back Friday.
Hope you boy is ok Dougs and you manage to avoid that other nasty stuff!

We ended up doing something similar last year to try to avoid Covid before Christmas. Whatever you decide, hope everything works out ok.
