As the dad's group is no more, perhaps we can share the joys and burdens of parenthood here.
My eldest has what we think is an ear infection (personally I think it's his teeth) One lot of penicillin seemed to clear it up but it came back, so he's now on his 2nd lot. He also has a party at an aqua assault course thing today. So we're sending him along with earplugs and a neoprene head band to protect it. We are bad parents.

My youngest is finally losing her first tooth. She’s 7 in 2 weeks, that’s pretty late right

Nah, not really. The longer they stay in, the better imo. I have a theory that it makes their adult teeth stronger. I have no evidence for this theory.

We are at out of hours doctor this morning. Think the youngest has tonsillitis or ear infection. Bloody kids. Cause so much stress

Yeah everything points to it being better. They were both late with their baby teeth, she was about 18 months for her first tooth. You do reach a a point where you worry they’ll ever grow. No idea when my teeth came, I guess it’s genetic but my old man wouldn’t have a clue if I asked him

The older two had it a lot, always vomit followed by a temperature.

I did neglect them in my late teens and twenties and it's pretty much my only regret. Trying to get that through to an 11 year old is tough though. He thinks he's invincible.

Ear infection. Got some antibiotics. Think we caught it quite early before it got too bad so should start to feel better soon. Poor kid looks so poorly

They kick in quick too, so should be back to themselves in a day or two.

My youngest (7) collapsed a couple of months ago, rushed to hospital, in hospital for five days. Now has diabetes type 1... Talk about a shock to all of us. She’s doing great and really took it on board with the blood tests and insulin injections. I’ve reverted to new born baby dad who worry’s about everything all the time ☹️ It’s getting easier day by day, and we’ve just started with sensor on arm to cut down on the finger pricks, but it breaks my heart to know this is her life now
On a side note, the hospital have said they have had an unprecedented number of cases of kids developing type 1 diabetes since covid hit. The nurses were convinced there is a link...

Yeah sorry clemfandango that sounds terrifying. I like to think I'm the level headed parent in times of crisis but the worst we've had is the odd broken limb, don't know how I'd cope with a sudden collapse

I'm concerned about my (10 year old) son's inability to deal with anger at the moment. Over the past year or two he's developed a real tendency to yell, hit stuff, cry with frustration when something doesn't go his way. It's especially pronounced with gaming or screens generally- like he'll keep playing Mariokart or some shitty Android game on his Kindle or whatever, even when he's screaming with rage every time he loses. We've tried banning the screen for a bit, diversion, logical arguments- nothing seems to help.

Cheers everyone. Like I said my daughter is fine with it and she is happy and stable. Can’t say the same for the parents! It is like having a newborn again in a lot ways, have to do glucose checks at 1am every night, then often have to wake her up to either give her a biscuit or correction if levels aren’t right. Each week is getting easier though
Oh and carb counting every single meal is as much as a pain as you think it is!

Doesn’t sound like a massive problem as kids are growing and hormones kicking in, but it may be worth mentioning it to your gp as they may refer you to someone to give a quick consultation. We did similar with our eldest as she had a lot of traits of ADHD.

Thanks, yeah I've wondered about that, or other neurodivergent type stuff, but 1) it's frustrating but manageable at the moment and 2) Mrs. hedben is really wary of any kind of support for mental or behavioural issues due to some stuff that happened when she was young. We're keeping an eye on it in case it gets any worse, and trying to get an idea of what's within the range of "normal" for a 10 year old...

The kid went back to school Thursday week before last. By Tuesday she was off sick. Dud at home Covid test because we live in Tennessee and it’s wall to wall fuckwit here.
Came back negative so, as it’s not improved, she’s prolly got fucking strep throat. Again.

The list is two stand up shows and three lunch dates (including two birthdays) at the moment.
Looking forward to another in the new year.

One of my boys came back from nanny’s with a massive allergic reaction to….something. Covered in spots all over face and upper torso. He’s not in a bad way really, but every now and then the spots behind his ears flare up and we get loads of whinging.
In the circumstances he’s being a trooper really, he’s generally an over dramatic child but he’s actually kept a lid on it. He looks absolutely awful, like he’s got chickenpox (we are reassured by both pharmacist and doctor confining it’s an allergy).

It’s actually not so bad. At least it shouldn’t normally be. It’s hard graft, but the good vastly outweighs the bad. Some of the time
