I'm stuck already. On the tutorial no less. I'm trapped in an alcove, the tutorial said flashing areas on the maps have hidden items, but I'm stuck, no way to get out. Tried everything. At least I hope I have. Going to restart

Heh - that really was a bit early in the game to get stumped.

Just picked mine up. That must be the worst intro I’ve ever seen.
Busy until the night, hoping to put in 5 mins here and there.

Hey! There was nothing wrong with that intro, Lady.

I’m the one in the Switch lobby suggesting that Metroid looks better than some PS5 games, with Switch fans disagreeing. Incredible. I can accept that the Switch is vastly underpowered compared to a PS5 and enjoy the games anyway. I think most people can

I don’t think it matters what it looks like, as long as it’s within reason.

Saying a game on system X looks better than "some games" on system Y is utterly pointless and means nothing. Every system has for example 8 bit looking games like Undertale. The best looking game on system X will always look better than the worst looking game on system Y.
What is true in respect to your argument of their being no point in a more powerful Switch is that there are no Switch games that output above 1080p so if like me your game on a big 4K set the image quality will always unfortunately be soft and compounded by a lack of decent AA on many first party games.
Id love to play Metroid Dread and the new BOTW at higher resolutions. I'd love to play the new Zelda at 60fps or at least a locked 30. The current hardware doesn't provide me with those options.

Just done the second major boss and really enjoying it, but it does feel exceptionally linear so far. It's very conspicuous the tricks it does to funnel you onward. It's really not been possible to backtrack much. In some ways it's feeling more restrictive than Fusion: that game told you to go to sector x/y/z and a specific room, but it felt like there were lots of places to at least branch off and find some stuff, before returning to the critical path.
Here you technically don't get told where to go, but you get railroaded hard by the environment with few chances to go and find something off the path, and when you get an upgrade the way back is often blocked off. Curious if it will continue in that vein.
I've never been under much of an impression that any game in the series is particularly non-linear, but it's a little on the nose here.

You can have mine, you'll just need to rent a fucking Chinook to come and airlift it out of my back garden. And as suspected no keyring with the Limited Edition. And it is huge, I expected it to be more WiiU CE size not closer to the Switch Xenoblades which it is. The still wrapped artbook does look premium but the wife is not happy about the box size and an OLED Switch arriving today... The old adage of easier to apologise afterwards than in advance isn't working here.

From what I've read, the early sections are very linear but then it does open up a lot afterwards.

Is it playable on the shitty little pads or does it need to be docked? Kind of tempted to pick it up for the boys switch.
Is it still the best graphics ever made on the normal screen or just on the new OLED?

I'm all thumbs on my OG Switch at the moment. It's fine when navigating but I'm fucking up any quick reaction things. Had the same issue with Hollow Knight, and ended up completing that on the TV via the dock. YMMV, depends if you're old and knackered like me, I guess.

I've heard on the new OLED it will bring tears to your eyes. On a regular old pauper Switch you might as well be playing on a Game Boy.

It looks fine on the OG screen, btw. OLED ain't gonna hide those pixels.

Played it both docked and undocked. Really smooth so far and controlling Samus is crazy good.
I was thinking I was going to play this mostly portable but I think I'm going to have to find some time to put it on the big screen.

Going to postpone playing this as I'm still chipping away at Fusion. Can't be long left now but what a great entry it is.

You’ll need an 8k Switch to enjoy this.
No, I’m enjoying it but the Lite is far nicer in controls than full Switch. I’ve realised that’s because the joy cons are longer, obviously. L/R are just not as easy use quickly in portable.

See that's why I won't buy an oled. I'm tempyed, sure, buy I play in docked 99.99% of the time

Same, actually. If they'd given the OLED a proper d-pad like the Lite, it might've been a no-brainer. As is, I'm tempted but ultimately don't need it.

I've got the Hori split pad pro permanently on mine. The joycons have just sat idle ever since I got my Switch.

Holy SHIT does this drain the battery quickly. I think we're all going to end up playing on the TV whether we like it or not. Blimey, didn't even get an hour!

Been playing it docked with the joycons just fine tonight, but had to switch over to the pro controller for the Kraid fight. Really enjoying it so far.

Pro controller and couch for me when it eventually turns up. Sure it won't look nextnext gen on my regular pauper non-OLED display, but I guess it'll have to do.

Two bosses down and into the second area. Definitely very funnelled in that first area, and not in a good way. But that second boss fight. Wow. Just so satisfying to beat it, on the third attempt for me. Not the toughest gating encounter but definitely reminded me to use all of the controls. I’m starting to get that “I’m thinking about this when not playing it” vibe. And it has kept me up until nearly one in the morning. Usually a good sign that.

Loving this. Ticks almost all of my Metroid boxes. Early days but music doesn’t appear to match Super Metroid quality… but then what does!

Will this game be in the "never gets a discount" Nintendo club? I only buy digital but it's £49.99, gonna be that for fucking ages isn't it?

Might be able to pick it up for £47.99 in the 2023 Christmas sale

Played a good few hours and it's worth every penny so far though, not had a single "can't be arsed with this" moment yet
