I didnt get very far with it. It didnt do anything wrong but I vaguely remember it came out at the same time as a load of others and didnt hold my attention like they did. I think I got like 2hrs into it? Kept meaning to go back to it but you know how it is.
I did, however, finish both guacamelees and thought they were great. The humour isnt for everyone but it looks and plays great.

Everyone else just pegged it from the EMMIs until you could kill them, right? Trying to stealth past them is really shit.

Plus if you get to see their very good animations if you hide and watch them

Run mostly. Hide when you have to, like if it’s in front of your exit

Yeah, I found a combination of learning the terrain, jumping and stealth the most effective. Countering remains a challenge until the end, though I got fairly good at it (some 20% success rate I'd say). I'm at the final boss (I guess?) fight now, just trying to get all the items. I can't figure out many of the speed block puzzles, there's just no room to run , I'm hoping to get a new power at some point.

At the final boss and activated all the teleports now so just doing clean up. Couple of the shinespark ones are making me scratch my head
No other game gives you that keys to the kingdom feeling like when you're fully powered up in Metroid

I've done a couple where you have to get the shinespark charged and then get to the blocks before it runs out. It's figuring out where. I'm wondering if there's a trick to extend it

I looked a couple up and now they’re clicking for me. Some serious gymnastics required.

If I can't figure them out, I'll just leave it. Never got 100% on a Metroid before, probably not going to now. It's nice to leave a bit of mystery anyway

I've just picked up the Gravity Suit! I don't mind underwater sections, but if it isn't a relief to finally be able to move more freely!
I'm still very much enjoying this, but I have a few complaints. Firstly, level design isn't fantastic. I'm not going to knock the lack of visual variety, as it gets better as the game progresses, but the layouts feel very random. Its also a very linear game. As much as Fusion, for sure.
Also, a couple of the early power ups are very much redundant and barely last 20 minutes before being replaced by an 'enhanced' version.
A couple more very minor complaints. Dedicating a button to the Morph Ball is great, but pushing down on the analog stock should only let you crouch. Secondly, I get holding R to use missiles, but I'd prefer it if R toggled between your beam and missiles. Holding two shoulder buttons and tapping Y can be confusing when you're being rushed.
Other than that, I do really rate this game. Movement is so satisfying. Not just the actual running around and aiming, but also the sliding and dashing. They make the boss battles so fun and frenetic. Much like the late game in Hollow Knight. Zipping across the screen to dodge boss attacks is exactly my cup of tea.

Last night I had the path opened up to the final boss and stopped playing. I need to head back out to try to get the remaining expansions, now I have that final (I hope) power up I've been waiting for.
Some of these speedboost/shinespark puzzles are some next level shit though. I had to watch a couple of YT videos and then do multiple, multiple attempts to get the expansions. I don't feel bad though, cos I've never 100%ed a 2D Metroid (I've done 100% on all three Prime games).
I actually don't want this game to end, gonna be gutted after I complete it. I've read a lot of people complaining about the boss fights online. My experience was that I found the first major boss fight annoying and it took me ages but I've found the ones after it...easier? I may eat my words on this final boss though.

I thought they were all quite fair. None of them stalled my play through in the same way as, for example, a Sekiro boss would. The final boss got a bad rap on here, but with a good amount of upgrades mopped up it didn't take me too long to take it down. In fact, once I got to the final phase I beat it on the first time somehow.

All done What a very good game it is. I've already covered most of my thoughts on it in earlier posts and if I talked about every little thing I liked about it, it'd never end but I think it's pretty special I probably go on about it a bit but it's just something I appreciate I suppose - I think they used to 2.5D really well. Comparing it to Bloodstained, where it felt like the game was 2.5D for the sake of time and money, the backgrounds here are utilised really well to bring life to all the different environments, which were all really varied Didn't have any trouble with any of the controls or find the bosses too difficult but clearly I'm properly hardcore. The final boss was a good work out until you got the patterns down, then it's pretty straight forward. He throws so much health at you I ended with practically full energy tanks I thought the story was pretty entertaining and a fitting end to the arc. Samus, you're so cool! The escape sequence was tremendous Didn't find all the items because I got impatient and wanted to do the boss but it leaves something for next time, which there will definitely be. The playtime is dead on as well (just under 12 hours for me) Only disappointment was the Metroid Zero Mission image after the credits made me think the game was included and playable as a completion reward. Boo! Bongo Heracles Hard mode is just enemies doing and taking more damage

I understand why everyone brought up the blue EMMI. I mean there's no point in hiding really, but they go down as easy as the others.

Errghh, just got to the underwater level, I hate underwater levels.
Hopefully it doesn't go on too long, and I hope there's no EMMI underwater chases.

Water levels are devs way of telling you you can't have fun all the time
I think there's a few upgrades between you and ungimped movement and there is some EMMI action but it's fine

This game is giving me such a hard time at the moment. Just got past the flying purple energy boss, the purple EMMI is kicking my arse every time I'm in its zone, and now I have to take on two of those robot things.
It's a really good game, but so tough in places. I can see a lot of people binning it off way before the end...

Homing missles are useful in that two solider fight iirc

Oh, that was a bastard. Homing missiles were useless for me, moving around and successfully avoiding attacks was what finally won the day.
Probably the most difficult fight for me since it’s so random. I had serious trouble keeping an eye on what reach of them was doing.

If it helps, they were my biggest struggle as well. Some of the bosses took me longer to beat, but I could always see a path through. Those mini-bosses though just felt a little too chaotic and arbitrary to be enjoyable. Nick must've loved 'em though.

They're pretty predictable, especially if you move down to the bottom and then back up to the top platform. I don't think they'll ever try and both jump up on the same side so one will run along to the other end. Keep the homing missiles charged and lock on to the first one that jumps up. Jump over the red attack, deflect and parry the other one

Nick must've loved 'em though. Heh, I do indeed think they are among the best encounters in the game. I wish there were more or them, tbh.

Got the 2 soldiers earlier - while the boss fights are hard, I generally do a little better on each attempt.

I'm right there. Very last part of the game. All obvious upgrades acquired, but only 80% of the items obtained. The completionist in me cannot leave it like that. It took me years to get 100% completion on Super Metroid, but I'm doing it on my first run through of this one!

Some of these shinespark challenges are a bit naughty. They're a nice throwback to Fusion and Zero Mission, but those games subtly teach you the tricks needed to carry them for as long as possible. In this game I feel you're expected to have that prior knowledge.
I'm enjoying figuring them out, but I see them frustrating new players or those who never played the GBA games.

To me knowledge is never shows you how to carry the shine spark charge / reset the charge so you can pack it for longer. Which it absolutely should do.

Yeah, the challenges seemed unsolvable for me at first and I was convinced I’d be getting new powers. Turns out I had no idea I could already do what was required. After I looked up two solutions I was able to figure out the rest for myself.

I thought there might be something like that. Don't know the trick but looking things up kind of takes and feeling of accomplishment out of it anyway. The upgrades are completely unnecessary to finish the game so it's no biggie

Yeah I got to 89% and would have likely polished it off if I knew that trick to retain the spark, I have no idea what you guys are on about!
