How much is 5G a month, and do you have a cap? Seems like we could be on the cusp of a market disruption. Been on £20 a month for 7 years, for unlimited data with Three. They upgraded to 5G at no cost. I just checked 3 and they currently don't do 5G near me, but even their 4G home broadband supposedly has max download speed of 600mps with 50-100mbps as average speeds for £20 a month (£10 for the first 6 months). I can easily people starting to switch to that.

Right?
So between that and the cashback for the 5, this 7 Pro will have cost £319. And I'm switching from a £50 a month contract to an £18 pound a month contract. Genuinely insane. 😁

Very jealous of your experience. But also heartened. I'm going to be in for the next Pro model. Fingers crossed that they continue their improvement trajectory. Also, I know people here don't rate DXOmark at all, but it does amuse me that the Pixel 7 Pro is sitting at number 1 in their ranking for smartphone cameras.

I've had it a week now and on the whole, I'm very positive indeed.
It's still a Pixel, but it feels premium in a way my 5, 2XL, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5x never did. Like a Samsung but without the ridiculous OS changes and bloatware. It's big, but it's good in the hand. Super fast, works really well and is a definite step up from the Qualcomm chipped devices. Apparently, if you had a 6 Pro, the Tensor 2 isn't that much of a step up, but from earlier devices it's a quantum leap.
Cameras are excellent, only just scratching the surface, but the image quality is fantastic.
My only slight nark is that I've had to put a case on it. Not sure what the thinking was behind making a device that big with an assymetric camera bump at one end quite so shiny and slippery, but it was falling off any surface I put it on, sliding away to oblivion. It's a shame, but I'd rather have a case than a broken phone.

Still waiting on my order from Mobile Phones Direct from the 10th. Getting a bit tedious, next day deliveries have truely crippled my ability to wait for new shiny things.

Does anyone with their ear to the ground know why the Pixel 6a is ridiculously cheap at the moment? RRP is £299 direct from Google (my current OnePlus Nord was £400 new) but if you buy from Currys you can trade in any old crap phone and get an additional £100+ discount (straight £100 off + value of the handset) so £199 or potentially less.
I don't exactly need a new phone, but a Pixel 6a for around £150 is very tempting, if only for a brand new battery.

I would imagine they are just shedding excess stock. It never really made sense in that lineup, so I wouldnt have thought it sold well at all.

Get an extra £5 if you have some junk lying around. I dropped off a broken coffee machine for a voucher.

I believe the exact amount of money you get off the Pixel 6a at Currys depends on the handset you're trading in, but at the very most it'll cost £199.
I was thinking of trading in a working OnePlus 3T, so I estimated it being worth an extra £50 off, but that's maybe a bit ambitious for a fairly old phone.

Yeah, got a Tab S8 from Currys using the trade in. I got the £200 plus the minimum amount of £2 added for the tablet I sent in (Lenovo thing that was stuck on android 6 or something like that) Ended up costing me £350ish which I'm pretty chuffed with.
I almost sent a BlackBerry playbook in for the lols. Wish I had now as they don't seem to give a shit.

Dammit, Nokia X20 isn't listed in their trade-in thing.

Ended up going for the Pixel 6. Was only £80 more than the 6a on Amazon, £210 off.

Pixel 6 is £299 at Currys now with a code btw (PIXEL100), so you might want to send it back.
£499 for the 6 Pro too.

Fuck, it's done now. Also I expect if I ever need to return it from NZ is going to be easier with Amazon.

I've been reading more into the Pixel 6 and 6a. The 6a seems to have some fairly big shortcomings (bad camera, 60hz screen, smaller battery) but then I've heard that common complaints with the Pixel 6 are poor battery life and a terrible fingerprint censor.
I don't think I could live with a bad fingerprint censor given probably I use it upwards of a hundred times a day, and a 60hz screen would be hard to go back to.

I've had my Pixel 6 since launch and have had no issues at all with the fingerprint sensor, also the battery life has been fine for my usage, normally get two days out of a charge.

Fingerprint sensor on mine (6 Pro) doesn't seem too bad these days. It was pretty unreliable when I got it closer to launch, but definitely feels more consistent now after numerous updates.
Not saying it's perfect, just that a lot of complaints you'll read might be outdated.

Received mine today. Just got it out and it feels nice in the hand. The (third) screen protector went on perfectly too. Charging it up now.

My wife’s Samsung has seemingly expired after she connected it to an airplane USB. Obviously she has no idea if she made any backups. Does Android have something similar to iCloud where everything is automatically backed up? Tried looking in her Google account but no contacts etc were there.

Is it dead dead, or did it stop taking a charge? Because those usb ports are fused which should be repairable.

We took it to the Samsung shop, he said it’s taking a charge but he’s not sure why it won’t turn on. He said they could send it away but would have to wipe the data (which is what she cares about) and it wouldn’t be worth the cost of repair. It’s an S7 so overdue for replacement, she just wants to try to recover the data on it if possible

With Samsung phones it can often depend on you setting up the backup in the first place. IIRC they stopped the Samsung cloud service a few years ago which might be helped here. If the contacts aren't showing up at contacts.google.com then it's might've been defaulting to use the SIM. A quick check would be just pop the SIM in another phone and see if they're there I suppose. Google One also backs up stuff (including contacts), but you need to opt into it.
Photos probably wouldn't be backed up unless you've enabled Google photos backup in the past.
It's a bit of a confusing mess really. I still do manual backups of photos too (sync with OneDrive and then move them to another folder on my PC every once in a while)

Google backup all the way. I think it's on by default on the pixels but an older Sammy may have been set up differently.
