I don't think I've ever heard Amen. I'm not sure if I want to from this.
I did listen to the Lillingtons' album, Death by Television, last night. It was good, will definitely play them again. Meanwhile, unfairly unknown British bands?
From Chapel-en-le-Frith, no less.

Amen were on Roadrunner at the height of nu-metal alongside early Slipknot and that rap-metal album Machine Head did so they never really felt like a “punk” band to me at the time.

To be fair everyone was on Roadrunner at that time it seemed. See the aforementioned Famous Monsters album.

I think Amen's hardcore and punk influences were most apparent on their demos and b sides. Their main releases were produced in a bit more of a metal way.
I do recall a limited edition album they sold on tour, that had more of a punk sound. The limited editions were numbered with Chaos's own blood, which further illustrates how much of an edgelord knob he was.
Still, I did like their music.

I only ever heard snippets of Amen and assumed they were nu-metal from their look. When I get time I'll check out some of the links posted.

There’s always been quite a lot of similarity/crossover between hardcore punk and (thrash) metal, eh?

I think metal and punk are more closely aligned than some fans of either will admit.
Obviously thrash and hardcore have a massive crossover, but even black metal has a definite punk influence. Look at that recent punk cover EP Mayhem made recently, or Darkthrones crust punk phase.
And listening to some of the Misfits heavier moments, it could sometimes be a section from a BM album:

My route into punk was very much via metal. Mainly Cliff Burton who was nearly always pictured wearing a Misfits shirt. I'm sure 90% of their exposure in the late 80s was via Metallica, and that's definitely how I discovered them.

When I first started going to punk gigs it was the height of the more explicitly 'metal' metalcore, like Walls of Jericho and The Hope Conspiracy, as well as the Gothenburg-influenced stuff. So I always associate metal and hardcore.

It’s almost impossible to separate. Some of the “metal” is a bit more technical on the guitar front, but the rhythm sections, themes and often, the vocals are from the same melting pot.

If you haven’t read JJ’s book, Evolution of a Cro-Magnon, it’s worth a go. It’s harrowing in parts, but it’s a good read and a good insight into the scene, too.

Motorhead are one band that definitely blurred the lines betweek punk and metal. All the old punks I know who were never into metal, they all love Motorhead

Yeah there's a lot of cross-over. I went from the likes of maiden etc into death and black metal, then into punk that way. Black metal especially has a lot in common with punk.

Any love for some Aussie bands here? Not exactly hardcore punk or anything but I’ve always liked Living End, Body Jar and Frenzal Rhomb. Chris Cheney of Living End is a guitar god, and I would say that LE are the best band I have ever seen live

Living End are great, can't say I've got every album of theirs but the couple I have are very good (a quick search reveals they have far more albums than I realised). I really like the double bass, psychobilly influence.
Speaking of Psychobilly, I really liked the Meteors...
As for other Australian bands, I remember kinda liking 28 Days, though the singer always seemed like a bit of a dick for some reason. I don't think I'd like them as much these days tbh.

28 Days ‘Stealing Chairs’ is a great album.
Yeah Living End have been around a while. Self Titled and Roll On are the two essentials and the ones they dip into the most for live sets.

The Living End and F. Rhomb are both good. However, I can't let a punk mention of Orstralia go without the best Aussie band ever...

Just booked tickets for Alkaline Trio in March \o/ Nice. How do they sound these days? I love their early stuff when they were like a really dark version of Jawbreaker, but I must admit I drifted away a bit in the years after Crimson, which was the last of theirs I bought. I've kept track of Dan Adriano as he is in the Falcon with the (awesome) Brendan Kelly (of the Lawrence Arms), but I should probably listen to AT again...

No idea tbh! I stopped listening to them after Crimson as well. Just hoping they play enough of their earlier stuff.

Good Mourning is my favourite by far but I also have a special place for From Here to Infirmary. They also do the best cover of Metro in existence.

Alkaline Trio have released some decent albums since Crimson. Agony & Irony is great and for me is their second best after From here to Infirmary.
Their newest one Is This Thing Cursed is solid if unspectacular.
I’m supposed to be seeing them next month with Bad Religion in Arizona but seeing as we can’t get into the US right now it’s not likely.

Oh shit. I'm talking crap. I bought Agony & Irony as well. Don't mind it at all actually but it is a bit flaccid in places.
Ah Matt I would love to see Bad Religion. Hope you make it over there.
Still, with The Offspring, Green Day and Alkaline Trio now all booked, I'm at least getting to see some of my favs again.

Thinking about it, tell you who I'm not really a fan of but are fucking brilliant live? Anti-Flag. I would see them again I reckon quite happily.
