I don’t think the new record is bad but its just not doing it for me. Maybe its too slick for me, not enough bite.

Massive fan of all things punk. Most recent band I've gotten into is Idles: Their first couple of albums have been great. Anyone going to Rebellion next year? Idles are a lot of fun, saw them in Oxford just after Joy... came out, easily one of the bounciest gigs I've been to in the last 5 years

One day... Anyone going to Slam Dunk this weekend? Also have The Specials next week.

As a Londoner, lack of tickets was the main reason I saw them in Oxford, but they're well worth the late train or hotel room. Or both. Most fun I've had in a while

Never heard of Idles before but I rather like that. Might check out their other stuff.

Another fave, they went in a very different direction afterwards, but this is a savage record.

Their tour with ETID and Jesus Piece next year is going to be ridiculous

Yeah.
Nearest one to me is London and was already sold out by the time I noticed.
I'm getting too old for all that anyway. 😁

I’m not able to go to as much anymore but that and Anthrax with Municipal Waste (also a wild bill) are the two shows I’ve got booked in

Don't think I've listened to The Bronx since I bought their debut way back when. They completely slipped off my radar.

Used to quite like them. I'll have a wee listen to their other albums. I'm currently obsessed with The Lillingtons. I could quite easily listen to this song on repeat for days:

Precisely not at all, in fact. They had a bit of a flirtation with a slightly less frantic sounds around about IV, but the new record sounds much the same as I did. Kerrang: Works for me.

Right?
That Lillingtons' track is cracking. I've never heard of them before now.

They're brilliant. Singer is also in a band called Teenage Bottlerocket who are worth checking out.

Them, I know and like. They're on Fat Wreck still, I believe. So many bands, so little time. I will check out the Lillingtons this afternoon.

Yeah I think so it's their guitarist Kody who fronts The Lillingtons. Think their most recent album came out on Fat Wreck as well in 2017.
I love all their albums but Death by Television is my favourite by far.

I'll check 'em out.
Weird how sometimes bands just completely pass you by, eh?

Absolutely. I think 100s have passed me by to be honest. I'm terrible when it comes to seeking out music these days (or any days). Although back in '99 Death by Television would have been me to a tee, so I really do have no idea how I missed it until only a few years ago. That was the time I really started getting obsessed with the Misfits etc owing to Famous Monsters coming out and blowing my socks off (still one of the best albums ever recorded IMO).

Sure that a lot of people have written modern day Bad Religion off but their last album Age of Unreason is in my opinion the best they’ve released. Can’t deny the importance of the trilogy of Suffer, No Control and Against the Grain but AoU is a great example of a band playing to their strengths and yet keeping it fresh.

I agree totally, Age of Unreason was genuinely good. I found the preceding two albums a bit dull, they just lacked a spark. But Age of Unreason recaptured a lot of the energy they'd lost.

If we're talking Bad Religion then Empire Strikes First and New Maps of Hell are my favs.
What's everyone's thoughts on Pennywise?

Another blast from the past. This album was so full of vitriol there was practically spittle flying out of my Sony Walkman. Saw these guys live 3 times back in the mists of time and Casey Chaos (apt moniker if ever there was one) always managed to completely fuck himself up as he threw himself around the place.

I saw mudhoney play a few times from 1990 -1994, they weren’t grunge they were punk through and through. Also probably the only decent punk band I’ve listened to. The sex pistols, dead Kennedy’s, stooges and ramones were all pure shite. And don’t get me onto all that 90s new punk like green day, music for kids that had no music taste..

Also if you really want to listen to pure noise, mayhem but with a musical edge, royal trux is the only band you need.
