The "Directors Cut" for Ghost of Tsushima is released on Friday and I'm hoping mine arrives tomorrow. I'm looking forward to finally playing it.
Any tips from those who have already played it on the PS4? Anyone else looking to go the upgrade route before paying for the DLC?

Isn't the upgrade and then buy DLC the only way? I've got money in my PSN account that'll cover it, and probably would've pre-ordered if there was an option, but think I might hold off for a while now. Too much to play as it is and I was fairly late to play GoT too so it's all fairly fresh still.
Curious to see how they handle save game transfers and if I can just delete the PS4 version already.

The original base game has actually disappeared from the PSN store. Only the Directors Cut on PS4/5 is on the store.

I will probably get the DLC and upgrade but going to wait until I've heard what the content is like. I am not going to give any tips. Go in blind as you can. Keep a good hour or two when starting the game. I was a bit pished when I played it on ps4 and kind of broke up the opening. Started a new game on ps5 and enjoyed the opening so much more. You are in for a treat.

Early impressions make it sound like the ps5 upgrade is worth it. Insane draw distance and really good use of the haptics among other improvements.

I'll definitely be getting it, easily in my top 3 last gen. Any mentions of how long the DLC is yet?

Sounds like save transfers work if you just have the PS4 save present thankfully. Fuck it, who am I kidding. I'll be getting it tomorrow.

Decks - 10ish hours. Same kind of size as the first act of the main game.

Tempted by this myself. Loved the base game. My gameshare bud has this. If he bought the ps5 upgrade would I also get it? I assume so as dlc works in this way.

So the PS5 upgrade nonsense isn't showing on the store?
Edit: looks like that'll only be up on launch day. I don't really want to encourage this behaviour though.

Anybody know if you can play this from scratch, or do you need to finish the main game / reach a milestone first?

Wish this would just unlock now. I’m home alone and parked it when they announced the super duper PS5 version was coming. My only concern is I’m going to be underwhelmed with the upgrade simply because it was already so beautiful.

How does this upgrade shit work if you already own the PS4 disc version and you have a PS5?

Wait until launch I think. It's fucking dumb.

Good old Sony, they really like to make things needlessly obtuse.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve understood it to be. No way of just getting the PS5 upgrades, you’ve got to go from PS4 scrubber version to PS5 directors cut.
There’s going to be an option in the menu to import a PS4 save.
Edit: fuck I’m getting old. I was wondering where I’d read the bit about transferring saves. It was here, literally about 5 minutes ago.

I've just seen the route, so buy the PS4 expansion then pay an extra fee to get the ps5 version. Wow, that is some 'please understand' bullshit.

Digital Foundry seemed to find no massive differences between the native PS5 version and the back comparability mode version other than a native 4k. No different in draw distances or that gubbins. Seems a pisstake to ask for the price hike.

Well it's a locked 60 now, you can change your controls to have attack on the face buttons and there's lock on options. Haptics are equivalent to something like Returnal when it comes to pulling the trigger buttons. Overall nice upgrade but nothing revolutionary.

So I bought the digital version full price on PS4 at launch last year. In order to play this with the expansion on the pS5, I have to buy the expansion, then pay again? How much are we talking about in total?
I would look it up but fuck that.

So the 2 options are: 1.Upgrade to ps4 directors cut for £15.99 and then a further tenner if you want to go PS5 2. Upgrade from OG PS4 version to native PS5 directors cut is 25 quid. You can still play the PS4 director's cut on ps5 and digital foundry and have said it's a perfectly fine option.

So basically £25 for the expansion and the luxury of playing in 4K? I loved the game but that's a bit of a jobby tbh. Tempted to just go for the DC on the pS4 version then. It's not like my fucked eyeballs notice all the pixels half the time.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards just getting the expansion without the PS5 upgrade. Bit of a swizz really compared to how many times this kind of thing has happened with Series S/X updates.

Kind of like the look of this, but I'm averse to open worlds with loads of busywork - I played one of the AC games for instance and found it tedious beyond belief - is it one of those?

marcp A bit, but it's a better open world than the AC games. Also, the combat is fucking amazing. It is prone to inducing open world fatigue in it's final act but until then it is a seriously good game.
