Where does it tell you play time and completion percentage?

Where does it tell you play time and completion percentage? From the main menu, instead of choosing continue, choose to load the game. It will show you the percentage and play time, and also lets you change the difficulty or enable skulls.

Ah, cool.
I finished on Friday at 19 hours 2 minutes, 81% complete (which was all squads, all cores, all cosmetics, all targets, 2 skulls and a bunch of data pads).

Not finished yet, but very interested to see where they go with DLC. Obviously hoping they open up more of the ring.

Find this quite dated and clunky at the best of times, but I am having some basic fun with it. They can fuck off with the snipers, though, which seems to be the game’s main tool to make a difficult level.
Should concentrate on the main story now, or I‘ll burn out long before I am at the end.

Unless I’ve missed it, I would like a visual indicator of what you can grapple onto. It seems a bit inconsistent with range and whatnot and I’ve had a bit of enough of seeing the snapback animation.

It’s a small, but the centre bit of the reticle turns orange when you can latch onto something.

There's a tiny yellow border around the aiming reticle when you can grapple to something. But I agree that I wish it were more obvious.

Main problem with the grapple indicator is that its size and shape seems to change depending on the weapon you are using. With some weapons it's quite visible, with other weapons it can be barely glimpsed.

It's strange how this feels like it was cobbled together within a short space of time, but cobbled together with the elements of Halo that just work. But after 6 years of development I wonder what the hell 343 have been doing all this time.
Multiplayer is incredible though.
Currently stuck on the mining laser boss on Heroic, absolutely no idea how to beat him. Confined corridor with bullet sponge boss using a one hit kill gravity hammer isn't my idea of fun at the moment.

You can run away from him, I don’t think you get confined. And if you haven’t checkpointed mid fight, there are a few super weapons lying around so find one of those. I found a sentinel laser and spike launcher before I hit that fight and there is a laser ammo dispenser in the next room.

If you want, you can cheese him by grappling above the hallway doors and standing there. He can't reach you with the hammer. He will occasionally throw a grenade though, so if that happens, jump down and then quickly grapple back up.

I didn't enjoy fighting him much, it was more that he could break your shield with one hit and then get another off before your grapple pulled you out of the way of the follow up sometimes.

I didn't enjoy fighting him much, it was more that he could break your shield with one hit and then get another off before your grapple pulled you out of the way of the follow up sometimes. In legendary he just kills you in one hit. And if you see him charging, then it's too late to get out of the way. Basically the whole fight boils down to constantly zipping around with the grapple, using the momentum to jump far ahead and put some distance between yourself and him, spray a few bullets in his direction when you can, and always keep an eye on the radar. If the red dot is closing in quickly, that means he's doing a jump attack and you have to keep zipping without even turning around. It's a massive pain and I couldn't be bothered, hence the cheesing method. Another boss much later will use the same hammer and there's no cheese available. So you have to use this tactic again. The only upside is that the arena makes it easier to run away. I still died a ton of times because if you mistime the grapple just once, he's kill you immediately.

He was pretty easy for me as at the point where the fight starts I had a hammer and br. I just kept jumping and grappling just behind him and as I flew over his head I'd just hammer him. Usually throw a grenade when I landed as well. Pretty much killed him that way but I had to finish him with the br as I ran out of hammer juice.

Oof. I'm a slowcoach compared to y'all, so just hit the boss of the Tower. Motherfucker.

Finally managed it, eventually using a rocket launcher and a skewer combo, just threw the kitchen sink at him!
Absolutely awful boss though, for what I'm guessing is early on in the game, that was ridiculously hard on Heroic.

askew, same here, just beat the Tower boss on Heroic; loving this so far, which is more than I could hope for after abandoning both Halo 4 and 5 campaigns

Yeah, playing on Heroic too. The boss spikes are pretty ridiculous. Sure, Legendary was often a slog (ironically the quick return from death on these SSD systems would make those waits of old more palatable) but I'm not sure I can be arsed with Legendary this time.
That Tower guard was daft, and fortunately I managed to lob a core at him whilst he was stood next to two others and that contributed a lot to taking him down.

The grapple makes most boss fights fairly trivial if you can use it well. Practise with it during the open world and normal levels. I used it constantly just for normal traversal, even on open ground. You don’t need to grapple to walls - use the ceilings and floors to create distance, especially between levels. If you move the aim mid-grapple you can change direction, so you co around corners or up and over ledges. In the open world you can zip between trees, or scale vertical faces. Playing Pathfinder in Apex Legends really helps with Halo The grapple isn’t as good here but it recharges a lot faster. The drill site boss, for example: there’s a room behind where he interupts you on the terminal, with a ramp each side. You can jump-grapple the floor or ceiling to go up and down between floors but he’ll have to move around the ramps. It creates space and gives you time to fire.

I've tried on Xbox One too, and while the inital load is lenghty, surprisingly the load time after dying is only 5 seconds or so. That's not much, even compared to the couple seconds it takes on Series S. Both fail to live up to the standards of the previous games, which reloaded your checkpoint instantly even on a mechanical drive. I guess the open world is to blame. Btw, the Xbox One version feels really bad. It may be 30fps, but the frame pacing is completely screwed up. It feels a lot worse than previous Halo games at 30fps. The controls feel laggy too. I definitely wouldn't have played on a high difficulty if I only had access to this version. Hell, I'm not sure I would have played at all.

The combat is just so awesome in this with the four attachments..had so many epic battles.
Still not sure what they did for 5+ years. The whole entire game looks the same so far. 11 hours in.

Yeah it doesn't have much flair to it. I'm loving it but there aren't really any wow moments when it comes to art direction or scenery which is a shame given its a flagship title.

I believe a lot of the time was having difficulty with the engine and considering switching to UE4, scrapping the idea of a big Zelda like world and coming up against Microsoft's employment policies.

I think the Spanish guy may be the worst character to have ever featured in a video game.

Have to say although I have had a couple of reasonably long and enjoyable sessions on it. I'm not sure I can actually be arsed firing it up again. I actually feel as though I've seen most of what there is to see. It's all just so...Halo.

Yeah, that's the big problem imo. Nothing ever changes, so you have seen everything the game has to offer within the first five hours.
That said, the campaign does at least have a few surprises. Not many, but still. If you are feeling spent, might as well blast through the story now. It's not too long, even if the objectives feel padded.
