I know there's already a Halo thread, but I thought it'd be good to have one specifically about the new game, where we can all talk speculation and then chat about how thrilled/disappointed we are when it's finally out.
To kick things off: anybody know when the next round of the beta/flight/whatever is going to be? Still gutted I missed out on the first weekend.

Yeah also gutted, but the hype is real! I watched a couple vids on YouTube and now all that I see in my stream is youtuber content and polls and it looks like expectations are rather high and positive from Halo fans.
I personally enjoyed Halo 5 a lot, but I get why halo fans didn't feel the same. But also, how the fuck can you please those that still think Halo CE was the best multiplayer...!
With MP being free to play I guess we are going to see quite the different beast, and there is still a lot for 343 to show, not even considering the campaign, given the very limited content / game modes / maps in the first flight. I just hope the netcode and loading is faster and less buggy. It just shouldn't be so that it takes so much longer to get into a game of halo than when I started playing shooters online on PC in the 90s.

Reports online that Co-op and Forge will be missing at launch.
Couldn't give a toss about Forge personally, but as someone who's played all previous Halo games through for the first time with mates I'm a bit gutted about the lack of co-op.
Not the end of the world obviously, and they're adding it later on, but a bit shit none the less.

This is one of those things where for me personally, it's not that big a deal at all - co-op is something that I quite enjoy but I'd much rather play a campaign solo first, and Forge is great but it's always something I just tinker with a little bit.
However, I understand a lot of people think of Halo as primarily a co-op game, and also that this kind of bad news puts a dent in enthusiasm generally.
I think they're showing stuff off next week at Gamescom though? So maybe they're getting bad news out the way and hoping we'll be too excited by the next reveal.

I’m really not that bothered about it...yet. Looking forward to the remasters of GTA V and Skyrim more as I’ve not played these. But I suppose for multiplayer fun this will be a great laugh.

Definitely this, I remember early on there were rumours the game was set on an entire Halo ring with almost an MMO element...I adored the first 3 Halo games and that really did capture my imagination. What if you had clans, base building.. Massive wars..
But that E3 reveal showed exactly how much ambition they have for moving the series forward. I just don't think they know or are brave to do anything radically different. The story has vanished so far up its own arse, it could almost do with a reset or reboot.

Halo is one of those games where I don't want anything different though. A larger sandbox, prettier graphics, and odd new things like the grappling hook are enough for me.

I always think halo is about co-op, but I end up playing solo, and maybe one or two maps only in coop. They must have numbers on how people play it.
Also, it's free. Gamepass etc. I mean I agree it's not the best, but coop coming later is quite a normal thing nowadaya, I think?

Yeah the campaign is always great in Co-op but I always have my first play through on my own. Also what technoish said, it's part of gamepass so I'm not paying extra for it, therefore it's just about ok.
That said, they're a massive studio and can't plan for shit. MS need to fuck them up.

I just stupidly ordered a limited edition pro pad from Game. I used my friends over the weekend and I really liked the rear triggers. I just hope the wife doesn't find out how much it cost.

Always totally jealous of TMCC, I would love that for Gears, all maps, all modes etc. I would never buy or play another game!

Looking at all the "alternative universe" armour they will do, its just testing the waters to go "full fornite" with skins. If its popular expect them to try it with Gears. I know they did t800 and SC in gears 5 as cross promotion but going full fornite will be 1000 OTT with skins
Also in the EG comments, fanboys/shills making up "you can disable them" which is not yet confirmed for infinite.

Everyone has a red and blue ready brek glow, so you can have funky armour. It works quite well.

Ah. Not that I care, I wasn't even into it back in the day. I think Destiny has shown that it's possible to have all sorts of wild and whacky armour without massively impacting the readability of the game. Saying it's going "Fortnite" seems like an odd take. It's doing what pretty much every other game in the genre is doing, isn't it? R6: Siege, Overwatch, Destiny, etc. etc.

The problem with the alternate universe skins isn't that they're alternate universe, it's that they look shit. Design some cool stuff and it won't matter.
They aren't going to add Kanye, Gollum and an animated vegetable so I wouldn't worry about it going Fortnite.
