Yeah. I think the target is now just Use As Much As We Can and Fuck Off Before People Realise How Bad It Is
Genuinely considering becoming prep-ready - get the house insulated, I've got my solar and they're good for 20+ years so I'll be in my 50s by then.

I'm fucked either way. Even if I wanted to I can't prepare. A swift death is the best I can hope for come the apocalypse.
I almost wish I could stop caring. Not like I'll have any descendants so it's tempting to just say fuck it, others can worry about it. But no, my stupid fucking empathy and concern gets in the way.

It won’t improve without the governments of the world working together and forcing oil, coal, gas, concrete and plastics companies to drastically change what they’re doing. No idea how we get to that ever happening. Short answer: we won't... People are too thick to even consider changing their ways and governments' primary concern is getting reelected, meaning only the most popular policies are promoted (along with the ones lining their pockets), so we're basically fucked...

Most people still think they will start doing something when everyone else does. Most people still think there is a compromise to make between ecology and economy. Most people still think they won't really be affected too much by the changes.
And these are just the people that actually acknowledge that there is a problem.

We have only one way we can engineer our way out of this. That is to solve the heat problem. How do we stop the sun heating the planet?
By reflecting the sun's energy away somehow. Either with big massive mirrors or particulates in the atmosphere. This could buy us the time to wean off fossil fuels and begin tackling the amount of CO2. Seems this idea is catching on with the US, EU and UN all saying this needs more research and investment.
All happening way too slowly though and at the pace we'd need to work at given the scale of the problem there would no doubt be serious side effects for parts of the world.
In my opinion this is the only real way out of this as a political change will not happen in time.

Lol, you want people globally to agree on an atmospheric engineering plan, when they can't even be arsed to cut back emissions?

Oh no Geo-engineering is like pandora's box, all kinds of unforseen misery with hope at the end that it all work out. For example, cloud seeding has major negative consequences, you cant have rain without taking it away from elsewhere. You would probably need space mirrors btw but I am not a engineer despite having a university master in Sustainable Development. I hate to break it to people, but climate change can no longer be stopped. Co2 lasts 100 years and tipping points have been reached. If anything, climate scientist are downplaying the severity of the crisis and its speed. Instead of building up saviour complexes like stop oil now, communication is required why we still need these measures. Any acceleration stop gives us time to invent new measures, plant more trees and shift to renewables. We also really really nees to start investing into resillience measures (stop heat islands in cities, invest in water retention etc etc). I actually considered making a topic of Sustainability on this forum to share some of my knowledge/experiences. Due to my illness I cant work atm and really miss interacting with people on this topic.

Yesterday I have seen a documentary about topsoil regeneration. It was claimed that if this was done on all agricultural fields, the complete man made CO2 emitted since the dawn of time could be stored back in the ground. It also seems like a rather simple procedure, you just have to live with some lower yields, because you are introducing a "regeneration" plant between each crop rotation, instead of only 1 every year or so.
But I'm not a farmer, so I can't really judge the veracity of the claims. They are already doing it in some parts of Germany, apparently, and there is an office that goes to the farmer's fields and takes a lot of random samples and then analyzes those in the laboratory for CO2 stored, and hands out rewards (like 0,3 € per ton stored or something).

Load of projects like it in the US. Results so far are rather mixed. Soil quality has improved but main purpose I think was to reduce pests and use of pesticides. I much prefer solutions like this then moronic geo engineering such as refreezing the north sea using noxide.

Made the mistake of looking at the comments on BBC report about climate change and how 40 degree summers can be expected in the UK etc.
Just a bunch of dopey cunts, climate change deniers et al.
We're a shit species.
In a way it's kind of cool that I can be around for the start of the human extinction.

What about all the people who do care about the environment and kids and stuff
People are selfish/ignorant of the state of the planet but you quite often want to just annihilate everyone. It's not much better

All that will be a moot point when we're all dying of heat stroke. Nah because people will still try - they'll have to and empathy and compassion will be necessary more than ever. It just seems disrespectful to say everyone is better off dead when there are people desperately trying to fix things or feed their families

I've got my personal preference, sure, but we've seen it in Italy where there have been an increase in deaths of people at work.
We'll see similar effects in the next decade and it will only get worse.
Meanwhile we'll see soon be seeing some countries entering the wet bulb temperatures of 35 degrees for prolonged periods where it actually unliveable. Not just dangerous for those with pre-existing conditions, but actually just deadly.

So everyone should die? I just don't understand it really. You're angry because you care about people suffering, so focus on those people. I just think you'd be happier in yourself. These are real people we're talking about, not just statistics/number of deaths, etc. Regardless of the state of the planet, people will have to carry on living here
Humans existing in the first place is incredible to me. To just wish it away is madness

I'm just frustrated with humanity because, sure, it's capable of great things but frequently decides to just do something awful instead.
Fwiw I probably would prefer us to not to all die out, but whilst we -humanity in general- are being collective arseholes it's hard not to think that we're just reaping what we deserve.

It's not all of humanity is the point. Even if it's a minority, those people still count and are worth caring about. Even still, someone might not care about the environment but that still doesn't make them worthless. It just seems very dehumanising to view everyone as a collective. Presumably you don't hate everyone on FG, because you know these people. There's various threads where you can see people having to deal with the things life throws at them. Everyone is like that. People are complicated. Some are outright horrible but that's not everyone is it

Humanity is a huge mass of sludge sparkled with a few gems. Even the nice and normal people have a very negative indirect impact on the planet. So yeah, it would be better for the planet if humanity just disappeared completely. Ideally with all their tech, too, because otherwise there would be some massive nuclear fallout from all the nuclear power plants breaking down.
Humanity isn't going to disappear any time soon, though, and will probably be among the last of the more complex species to die out, because unlike most other animals, we are very good at adapting to a challenging environment, because we have technology and speech. So it doesn't really make sense to think about human-extinction scenarios.
Better to focus on what we can do to improve the situation, even if there isn't much or any hope that it can or will be improved.
