Thanks guys. I'm feeling good that I've finally made one small positive step in the right direction. What will happen from here I don't know. I'm a bit apprehensive of any medication because - as weird as it sounds - it's the low points that inspire me creatively and get me writing or doing music or whatever on any given day, and I'm worried I'll lose that. But also, I just can't cope with this fucking rollercoaster any more. It's constant.

The appointment went okay I think? Well... As good as it could have gone for an initial appointment anyway. I just kind of spoke a bit, he listened. Wasn't dismissive or condescending. I also said about my reluctance to consider meds and he was very good on that front as well, seemed positive that the best way to start was just to make an appointment with the doc there that can talk this stuff through with me for starters. So I've got to wait for him to call me, but this GP also insisted I make a follow up with him for the end of may, just to touch base in case I haven't heard anything from the other guy yet. Just so I know he's there to talk it through, which I thought was nice. Oh well, it's taken years for this. Baby steps. I was two seconds away from cancelling it this morning mind you, but thought fuck it, may as well go.
I'd feel better if it wasn't for the fact I've been up most of the night with a fucking migraine mind you.

first steps will be gentle, you need chance to build the relationship and for them to know what they're working with - how many sessions have you got? i onoy have 6 this time round but had 20 last time and it really allowed an opportunity to explore things (not that it made much difference...XD)

It's important, that first step, no matter how big or small it is. Also, the fact that you didn't cancel it shows that you avoided temptation to ignore it and faced it instead. That's also a great step. Just keep doing what you're doing and just talk to them. And enjoy yourself in the meantime

differs from place to place - some surgeries are still lucky enough to have their own counsellors, then a lot of areas have their own provision through a self-referral service - whereabouts are you?

Up in the highlands. He did seem to infer that they had someone in house, so to speak, but as to exactly what I can expect I honestly don't know. I also don't have a time scale for them contacting me. Don't think the GP knew for sure either, but at least he made a follow up app with him in the meantime just in case.
