If the only one that ticks all the boxes is a Rolex then you probably do, in fact, want a Rolex

The Tudor black bay 58 blue might be a good shout. It’s not as vintagey as the others

Pls report back after the dealer has made you drive his kids to school for a few years and made you buy some other watches to improve your Rolex credit score.

The Tudor black bay 58 blue might be a good shout. I'm trying to build a very small collection. I already have a blue Aqua Terra and a dark gray VHP chronograph and am planning on getting a dress watch with a white/silver dial (Longines Master Collection) at some point. So the diver "needs" to be black. Another option is the new 41.5mm oris aquis Oh, very nice. Might be a tad too big though. Would have to try it on in person. Funnily enough, Oris/Hölstein is just a stone's throw from where my GF was born.

Choosing a watch based on details you think your collection needs is a bit of a fools errand, just buy the one you like most. No one’s going to look at your diver and think “huh, this blokes dress watch has a white dial too, what an amateur”

I didn't mean it like "I need to have one watch of each colour from my list", but more like that I want a black watch, and I already have a blue one, so while I might get a second blue one somewhere down the line, first I want that "black watch itch" scratched.

Divers do look better with black dials though. What about an older sea dweller, came in a 40mm case with no cyclops back in the day

Don’t think it’s ceramic and the construction might be a bit low tech compared to todays straps, but it’s a low key classic

Then sell it and get half of your money back when the sub arrives

Left field choice, Doxa Sub 600. 40mm, ceramic bezel, no date magnifier, I like them in banana yellow personally

I had an Oris Aquis 39.5mm for a short time, they're worth a look. They feel very well made in my opinion. I gave it to my nephew in the end, he loves it.
Also, don't rule out the Black Bay 58. I tried one on and they're loooovely. Perfect dimensions (for me anyway)

I’ve heard the 39.5 wears like a 38 and the 41.5 wears like a 40. Also you can’t get the 5 day in-house movement in the 39.5. I’d definitely go down and try a few options on if I was you as you’ll get a few great years out of it before the sub arrives. Also you should be able to get a decent discount if you shop around 👍

I don't "want a Rolex", I couldn't care less what brand it is. To the contrary, I'd prefer if it wasn't a Rolex. And I only want a no date because I detest the cyclops, otherwise I'd prefer one with a date complication. But all the alternatives are either too sporty, or too vintage, or have arabic numerals, or are too big (>41mm) or too thick: - Omega Seamaster: too sporty, too big (42mm)
- Omega Planet Ocean 39.5: too sporty, too thick (14.5mm), arabic numerals
- Omega Seamaster 300: too vintage (no white/silver on black dial)
- Tudor Black Bay: no ceramic bezel, too vintage (no white/silver on black dial)
- Longines HydroConquest: huge arabic numerals
- Grand Seiko: too big (43mm)
Have you looked at the Pelagos? It is 42mm, and might be a tad thicker, but I love them. Can get a date version without cyclops, and personally I much prefer the snowflake hands to Mercedes.

I’d buy a pelagos tomorrow if they did one in steel. I hate titanium in watches. Dull grey and weight of a feather. I can understand why people like them though.

Hm, also very nice. Will need to try it on to see if it's too big. My Aqua Terra is 41mm and wears small, and I can pull it off I think, but just barley.

I've never looked in this thread before. Definitely the most surprisingly niche thread I've ever seen.
Should probably be renamed The Watch Wankers Thread, in keeping with the other aficionado threads. Plus that's smutty.

I tried on the tissot prx automatic green dial today. Very nice watch and how they make and sell that for £550 is beyond me. Felt and looked like a £3k watch.
