Get the steel one IMO. Could be a good airport purchase if you happen to be going anywhere soon

Yeah I think it’s the better looking watch, makes the most of the bezel shape. If they were the same price I wouldn’t even think twice

Speak of busy pilot watches, I'm mulling this one over again. It's got that utilitarian, engineering vibe I'm a sucker for. Oh, that's a big pic.

Hmmm that’s preowned navitimer, Iwc pilot chronograph and speedy money. You’d be better getting one of those

You can also get a pre-owned one of these for half that.

Yes, Fortii don't really hold their value. Saying that, I've got a couple I picked up cheap when they were going through the throes of nearly going bust, and they are very nice watches.

Awrite watch nerds. I only own one Watch (not including my Garmin fenix and a very basic Casio), a Frederique Constant, Runabout FC-365RM5B6.
At some point the hands lost proper alignment (so the minute hand didn't point to 12 on the hour) and then a bit later stopped. I have sent it off for a service with the official parent (Citizen), they've received it and quoted £273 (which is £168 for a service and the rest to replace the crown and stem and hand).
Anybody got any views on how long should it take? Feels like I sent it off months ago. The account says it is currently in Geneva, no more info.

Take it to a reputable local guy for quote on a service and a tune up.

Watch servicing can take a while, usually about 6 weeks or more when they’re sent back to HQ. Always the safest bet unless you know the movement is standard, there can be special tools required if there’s a quirky movement

My Casio W-800H is in better shape than that after 3 years in a pretty hands on job.

My Speedy is over 50 years old and looks better!
A bit of polywatch would sort it (I've had success just with toothpaste on hesalite) but that looks very scuffed. It doesn't say what the crystal is made of on the product page (maybe it's soft plastic), but that's pretty shocking. Maybe his jacket sleeve has the back of a metal button which has mashed it up though.

What have they used for the glass? That is shocking, mineral crystal is dirt cheap and pretty hard wearing...

The crystal isn't bioceramic, only the body. The rest is fucking plastic trash.

As I'm not particularily keen on anally pleasuring a Rolex AD for 2 years, is there really no viable alternative to a black Submariner No Date, with black ceramic (!) bezel, and maybe a microadjust bracelet? Tudor Black Bay ticks almost all boxes, except for an aluminum bezel (and no microadjust I believe).

It’s got everything bar the ceramic bezel. The bezel material is apparently a lot tougher than standard aluminium too. The blue version is nicer though

If you really want a Rolex there’s generally no real alternative. Even a Tudor, you’ll Just be looking at it wishing it was a Rolex every time

Glad I got that out of my system. Really dislike the brand now.

I always liked the Brietling Superocean heritage II.
It's not a Submariner but it's also not £10k or going to ripped off your wrist by a scooter yoof.
The black dial is nice with the small gold detail. I'd change the strap.
But as people say if you're set on a specific watch nothing else will do.

Obviously I don't possess enough swagger because I'd much rather own a Grand Seiko than a Rolex

I don't "want a Rolex", I couldn't care less what brand it is. To the contrary, I'd prefer if it wasn't a Rolex. And I only want a no date because I detest the cyclops, otherwise I'd prefer one with a date complication. But all the alternatives are either too sporty, or too vintage, or have arabic numerals, or are too big (>41mm) or too thick: - Omega Seamaster: too sporty, too big (42mm)
- Omega Planet Ocean 39.5: too sporty, too thick (14.5mm), arabic numerals
- Omega Seamaster 300: too vintage (no white/silver on black dial)
- Tudor Black Bay: no ceramic bezel, too vintage (no white/silver on black dial)
- Longines HydroConquest: huge arabic numerals
- Grand Seiko: too big (43mm)
