They're just handing out machine guns to civilians in Kyiv at the minute. Not sure how I'd feel about going up against squadrons of trained soldiers. My approach would be utter cowardice, I wouldn't be joining any militias. Maybe if I encountered a loan Chechen taking a dump or sleeping I'd consider murdering them but engage in an actual firefight? Mmmmm nope. |

I think when you're in that situation, potentially facing a hostile takeover that will fuck your way of life, there's an element of "I'd rather die fighting"

I think it is hard to imagine what you would day in these circumstances.
I would guess young men might be more reckless, keen on a chance to take the fight to invading Russians. They do have home advantage, and support of locals. You'd be a hero, I expect there would be a bit of a snowball effect also, peer pressure.
The real difference tho is not I think fear of amateur defenders Vs professional soldiers, it's whether you will just be shelled into oblivion or have to go up against massive tanks. What do you do with your small arms?

But did you see the report on the border guards on that island in the Black Sea?
Russian navy told them to surrender or be shelled. The border guard literally (in Russian) told them to go fuck yourself. They obviously then died... But that story will galvanise and cement Ukrainian resolve.

One thing that hasn't been discussed yet is the inevitable refugee crisis that will occur. I'm super intrigued to see the responses countries will have to welcoming these refugees. When Mediterranean nations were asking for EU countries to take their share during the last crisis, slovakia, Hungary and Romania were absolutely against it. Russia really are fighting too many fronts at the moment, they're trying to threaten Finland and Sweden from joining Nato, whilst trying to invade Ukraine and struggling. Putin really has lost it.
