Nothing good comes of using pagers. Just ask Avon Barksdale

If you can overcharge a battery with nothing but software I’m going to start keeping my phone somewhere else than right next to my balls.

I assume they are able to do this to mobile phones as well then.

The implications if this was a hack rather than supply chain infiltration are pretty fucked up.

From the explosions, it doesn't look like batteries overheating, which probably rules out a software based hack.
The implications of it being a supply chain attack are staggering, though. To successfully get explosives into each device and then simultaneously (or close to) detonate theml is incredible.

I’ve seen a couple lithium cells blow up, you get a flamethrower because of the hydrogen gas, this doesn’t look anything like that.

Surely has to be supply chain infiltration. A Li-ion battery being fully discharged at once will catch fire, and a vicious one at that, but not really an explosion

My 2 cents, you know they are looking for pagers, you put a container or literal truckload of them somewhere you know they will get stolen, and nobody suspects stolen goods.

Rather glad the pager I used to have to wear all the time in the NHS was one that used AA batteries...
With the injuries inflicted and bystanders getting hurt as well it has to be more than a battery overload.

Per the above, it's not batteries. There would be loads of flames and loads of smoke.
These appear to be some kind of mechanical explosion.

It has to be more targeted than that surely? You'll hit all sorts of people if you just *hope* that it ends up in hezbollah's hands.

I think it's supposed to be the Hezbollah secure pagers or something similar. Israel was like, ok if we can't hack 'em let's blow them all up.

If this destroyed all of their comms devices and injured every device owner... They'd be seriously degraded in capabilities.

See above, Fred. Although, don't let us talk you out of trying.
So the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon had a Hezbollah pager. Fancy that.

Lots of face and hand injuries it seems, I guess the pager went off just before it went off?

bbc were saying a signal primed the boom to go off when the device was next interacted with rather than a signal triggering the boom - hence the michael jackson gloves
not really going to lose too much sleep over hezbollah but the huge numbers seems indiscriminate and kids like playing with their parent's phones/beepy things
can't see this exactly increasing peace in the middle east

There's a video doing the rounds of one going off when a guy's holding it in his left hand. But he's alright now.

Israel's idea of 'targeted' doesn't seem to line up with everyone else's, so I wouldn't count on it.
