Not sounding great in Ukraine, Russia flattening everything in sight and steadily advancing. it's fucking insane, Putin should be hung and quartered.

The reasons for the war were already flimsy but advancing and razing everything to the ground truly makes no sense. Not like they would have money to rebuild.

I don’t think he cares about rebuilding. They’ll have the resources.

Turkey's ambassador to Sweden suggested they wanted us to extradite a Swedish MP today. He did retract this after it was first published, saying he was misunderstood, but if this sort of nonsense continues for much longer public support for NATO here is going to swing back to negative again, if it hasn't already. It's looking increasingly like NATO just doesn't have its shit together. Half the things they're accusing us of are things we've never done and/or beef they have with other NATO countries (like arming the Kurds in Syria - The US has done that but we haven't) and the things they demand are either not going to happen (extradition lists) or things we can't control (arms embargoes, F-35 program).

I don't think NATO countries automatically have to extradite to other NATO countries. I'm sure the US doesn't do that. It's just Erdogan stirring shit for Putin

It's just Erdogan stirring shit for Putin No, of course not, it's never going to happen. But it's a ridiculous demand nonetheless. I don't think Putin or the relationship with Russia is the driver for Turkey here, it's more likely about putting on a show at home and trying to get advantages for themselves. But the way they're handling this - waiting until we committed fully instead of raising concerns when Sweden and Finland asked them in good faith over a month ago, making impossible demands, calling us terrorists and accusing us of things they should be taking up with the US - is souring the whole thing very fast. From our perspective and even moreso Finland's, Russia has been making direct threats and saber rattling about our countries joining NATO for ages and we're abandoning 200+ years and 75+ years of neutrality respectively. A big reason for why there was enough support for it in the first place was assurances from the General Secretary and all Western governments that this would be a smooth and quick process. Now here we are, and while it might not be entirely fair it looks to us like Turkey laid a trap and the rest of NATO ushered us into it. One country that's barely a democracy holding the rest of the alliance hostage in bad faith is also a very, very bad look.

I would have preferred more of a majority. But yes, I'm fucking sick of the Coalition skating by no matter how badly they fuck up. I'm sick of "empty suit" Morrison and his shameless, bottomless cynicism. So I'm happy that they're out.

Opinion polls wrong again, lol. Quite happy with it the way it is, the Greens best showing ever and a bunch of indy´s ripping the soul from the lib´s base. Be nice to think this is the start of something new but can´t help think it´ll be business as normal next time round.

I'm happy that they have enough of a majority to do the things they want, without having to please half a dozen independents.
Sure they will probably balls it up somehow, but I can (briefly) hope that they won't.

Well yes, the Liberal party and their offsiders can always fuck off so that much is good. However Labor have the exact same coal policy, pretty much the same policy on offshore detention and have an awful lot to prove before they can truly reclaim the left of center stance they supposedly offer.
It´s why they won´t invite the greens in for a total majority because they´d then be held accountable and you can´t have that.

This was almost two weeks ago but with all the other stuff going on lately I only just remembered to check the results: The Philippines had an election and Bongbong Marcos, son of the famously cleptocratic dictatorial power couple Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos won. And the vice presidency went to Sara Duterte, daughter of the current murderous horror show Rodrigo Duterte.
One shouldn't hold children responsible for the crimes of their parents I guess, and I'll happily confess to knowing very little about politics in the Philippines in general, but I would have thought at least the Marcos name would be thoroughly tainted.

Israel covering themselves in glory with the funeral of Shireen Abu Aqleh in which even those carrying the coffin are assaulted by batons and tear gas. Appreciate it's a week or so old now, but can't explain how disgusted I was when I saw the footage. This is what the western world supports and arms, whilst criticising Russia.

Jon Oliver did a bit on this. Basically they have managed to convince huge numbers of people that the Marcos era was a golden age. Social media culture war playbook.

The clincher was also convincing people that the Marcos family are going to share their plundered gold with the population.

I know it's all part of the outrage machine but it's still annoying to hear the term 'Far left' used to describe parties that are essentially centrist/centre right/centre left.
