Beginning to see where the time is going. You should tell Sandy Denny… (sorry) I use the Ultimate Guitar app for learning songs. It’s user submitted so sometimes they’re not always exactly right, but you can usually work out what you need to do and change. It does auto scrolling and adjustable pacing, plus you can transpose keys and so on. Dunno if it’s any use for piano though. Yeah, it's not bad - half of them are wrong, but they point you in the right direction at least. I learnt dangerbuds by Chris Joss last night. Fuck me, that's quite fast.

Yeah I'm worried about picking up bad habits early on. They can be a nightmare to unlearn later on. Although my thumb over the guitar neck that my old teacher used to bang on about worked out absolutly fine for SRV/hendrix and frusciante.
I've tried pianote and flowkey apps. Seem good but quite pricey. So now thinking about learning through books/youtube with a once a month "touch base" lesson with a real human.
Something pianote do which is quite good is live sessions with only a few people. You can also submit recordings and videos for them to critique etc

There must be something equivalent to the bassbuzz course for Piano. Yes, learning bad habits isn't a good idea as you're just making a rod for your own back What about these - keyboardkraze.com/best-online-piano-lessons/

Don't forget posture! Keep that back straight (as I constantly shout at my ever slouching son when he's playing).

I've actually just been inspired to find a tutor for the sax. Just dumped a fb post up on the local musicians group to ask for one. I was enjoying it last year as well. Going to get back on it.
Shit. I've just remembered I need to take my guitar in for a service it's scratchy as fuck.
Fuck sake why do I have to work.

Sucks doesn't it. I feel like robbing a bank just to pay mortgage off and then just sit down and do music for 20 years.

Don't even have a mortgage. Need to get one first. I'm never going to be able to stop working. I envisage endless fun ahead.

No everything is helpful at this stage! Did you sign up to pianote in the end? I'm thinking of subbing to it too, as every article I look online for, a lot come from that site, so I might as well go for it I think. I grew up with piano lessons but it was all classical so not much idea about chords or genres. Be good to branch out a bit. Did you get a piano too?

So turns out the guy I have lined up for saxophone lessons is also a member of the rowing club my son attends. He messages me out the blue and goes "is this you on the rota for marshalling this weekend?" Small world. I'm taking that as a sign that he's meant to be my teacher.
Cool story bro. Tune in next week for another thrilling update.

Teachers very down to earth and put things across really well. So I've subbed up. Paying monthly sp can drop out if I need to. Yeah I picked up a second hand yamaha p45 for 120 quid. So very chuffed with that

I also get what people mean about having touch sensitive/weighted keys. I couldn't imagine playing it without it.

Good price on the keyboard, nice one!
Yeah, I think I might go for the 30 dollars a month one for a while too. Good to know about the teachers and the lessons.
The trouble is, I have like, a million things on at the moment, so I need to make sure I'm disciplined and stick to the practive!

They have alot of free content on YouTube and do a seven day trial so can dip your toes in risk free. I'm trying to do at least 30-60 min a day. Just hard with life. Even 15 min will build up your muscle memory. I got very lucky. The poor bloke didn't really know what he's selling I don't think.

That's also a good point - I should soak up the free stuff first, and then use the trial for a while. Well, least you're putting the keyboard to good use. They're 350 new, so 120 is really good!
Now, do I learn it on my piano, or on a synth...hm!

If you CAN keep that going then excellent but experience tells me you may have a bit of a drop off. Main bit of advice from me is simply not to sweat it if that happens. Sometimes days and weeks don't work out well for practice, but you'll get back to it. Look at me. I was doing 60 mins a day with the sax and then it fell off a cliff, but I'm getting back into it now and the practice I've already done doesn't go away. So basically do something that's sustainable. 15 mins is great if you can do that.

Yeah I agree. It's something I aim for but if I don't do it I won't beat myself up.
Learnt so much in one week. So I imagine I will plateau at some point. That's when the drop off can occur.

Yeah, it doesn't matter if you slip. The point is, we all like playing music and that's all you really need. If we didn't like it, we wouldn't do it! And yeah, you have to juggle loads.
If I get any spare time, what I normally do is run through the band songs once or twice (have them all recorded so can just play along to the live session from the studio). If there's a gig coming up, I have no choice and I'll do this for an hour or so each night - but that's because I've got to, for the gig.
If there's a course I'm signed up for, that helps loads too - especially good ones. So the bassbuzz one from Josh Fosh Green was awesome and I stuck to that too.
But when the above isn't happening, that's when I get let myself go on the synths.
I have to treat the synths last, because once you start on them, and you have a beer and a smoke, that's effectively the whole fucking night gone if you're not careful!
I'm learning stuff all the time - it's ridiculous - the more you learn, the more you realise HOW MUCH MORE there is to explore!
It's just a really fucking cool lifetime hobby.
Enjoy!

Getting together with other people and playing is also a really good way to learn too. I can learn bass and synth all day long, but I need to put it in some context - whether it's mastering a song already made (play along to it), learning a song for the band (with band members all playing), or jamming something new and asking people to join in - it just keeps opening more and more doors each time.

It IS a cool lifetime hobby. I don't know where I'd be without it. Currently doing the fifth and final track for my own stuff for an EP and started a new album of stuff with my mate. I don't even give a shit if it's good or not. Makes me happy and that's all that fucking matters.
Yeah back in the band days I'd run through the stuff most nights, constantly. We used to have three 6 hour rehearsals every week and were as tight as hell. Bloody loved it. I don't play a tenth as much any more but can play good enough for what I want to do (although I do try to push myself a little - even managed a bit of tapping the other night for one of my tracks).

Yeah I do miss being in a band (guitar) I'm 37 now and played since I was 16. Probably for 10 years was always in some kind of band.
That fell away with marriage/kids/work.
Would probably make more sense to apply this new desire to learn, to the guitar. I'm ok but nowhere near good enough for someone that's played as long as I have.
Just something about the piano that's been calling me last few months.

Just something about the piano that's been calling me last few months. Don't go by some arbitrary measure of ability. Takes all kinds. For example, I'm shit! I've always been shit. My instrument ability sucks, but I've got a good ear and can write a good tune dammit (that's what I tell myself), and yeah, I enjoy it. So to hell with it.
