Yeah I know what you mean. It's good to have a session and get something out of it. Almost addictive sometimes

Like it! It starts off like a Doom 1 level soundtrack and then goes into Iron Maiden Fuck, I want to make a doom level soundtrack now...

Thanks man! I’ll keep working on it I think. I’m enjoying it anyway!
Yes. You totally should do that.

Haha cheers. Its a bit all over the shop but I was imagining playing something like system shock 2 for the first time where you're nervous walking down exploring the corridors!

Haha
It was all done live, hence the timing of the synths being out and the drum beat needs to drop out more. Er, and the noise sound needs taming. Um, and the lead needs changing. And the arpeggio
But apart from that! It's clearly a masterpiece

I liked it quaddy, nice and atmospheric. And a little unsettling.

Cheers. Yeah, it has the vibe I'm going for. It just needs more work.
Tell you what though, that roland tr8s rhythm composer is an absolute godsend. Pair that with some Hans Zimmer presets and you're off pretty much straight away.
Need to work on the composition for all songs too but it's so much fun just doing new bits and bobs!

Got our first gig with this line up and my first gig in well over a year coming up next weekend. We really have only been doing the material for a few weeks and have had time off for a Spinal Tap esque drummer injury. Two rehearsals to go which will be cram city.
Slightly nervous although it’s a small wedding, should be a tame crowd and will be a 200 quid take each to finish the set at 9 (licence condition).
We’re having a dep too on trumpet with some as yet untested sheet music. What could go wrong. Luckily he is a virtuoso, unlike me.
Just treated myself to one of those Mono ‘Tick’ bags that fastens to the front of your gig back (I have a Mono dual electric - superb). Gonna stick stuff like my setlists, sandwiches, flasks, my tie, and my maintenance kit in. Overpriced but what nice stuff isn’t.

Sounds good! Hope you have a good one!
Once you're going, just make it a cool ride. Crowd won't know what's coming and what's supposed to anyway, just have a blast!

Cheers Quaddy.
Not my first rodeo, have been doing it for years on and off with very similar setlists. I’m a bit unique in the band as the only one to get the willies from it though. Generally alright by song 2 or 3 and I have an unspoken agreement with the drummer that he’ll drive me in exchange for lugging the stand bag and drum tech’ing 😂. That generally enables me to have the magic two pints which increases confidence without hitting ability 😂
Extra nerves really because I think we’re a month off being where I’d like it to be. There are also certain songs that I just WILL always fuck up - Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, I am looking at you! Thankfully there are plenty of Midnight Hours etc to balance the tricky stuff out.
We’re debuting Never Too Much which I’m excited for - have never had a bassist who could pull it off before.

Yeah I remember your previous gig messages.
I'm the same with performance anxiety. Always bloody get it. Like you, I need a few pints and generally I'm OK by song 2 or so.
We've got a gig next Friday, so my anxiety is already creeping up!
But if your gig fucks up, as long as the bassist and drummer keep the rhythm, you should be able to coast through it.
It'll be great either way! You never know, you might surprise yourself and knock it out the park! Sometimes a break away for a while can help when you do the next one.

Cheers, I’ll be Reet. Hope yours goes well. Regarding the rhythm section, I do have to grit my teeth and say PLAY THIS ONE STACCATO a time or two to our basisst. He’s a jazzer by trade so I think he naturally plays very flowing which doesn’t work for some grooves!
The real effect of gig nerves is to reduce my confidence/ability with improvising any lead bits tbh. I’m fine with holding the basic songs down. There was once where we played a charity thing for Bolton Wanderers - was well over a thousand there and that did get me - started to grey out in the first song 😂
Thank fuck I managed to recover from that one.
The last three gigs we did were all really good and good fun to be fair. In fact the last one before our last singer left was my favourite ever.

Bloody jazz bassists it'll be cool I'm sure. Yeah, I think my anxiety stems from my very first gig a million years ago. I absolutely nailed the first track even though I was shitting it, but the elation afterwards was so much that I completely missed the start of the second track and like an idiot I tried to just blag it and catch up throughout the whole song. Completely fucking ruined it, and I could see faces in the crowd going, "wtf". Then a 20 year hiatus and it was hard to shake that fear of fucking up. 7 gigs later and it's still there but it's a bit more manageable. But yeah, I get exactly what you mean. But let's hope it's a good one!

We appear to share brains.
The best tip I ever heard for being lost was just stop, let the band carry it and come in on a chord that it makes sense to emphasise.
But yeah stuff very much gets in my head and I have songs which are like my nemesis.
I’ll make myself do some home practice this week.

Yeah if I'm in the shit now I immediately switch to root notes till I'm settled. Practice is key as we both know

Well that was a bit of alright. It’s bloody hard work gigging isn’t it! Probably the most exercise I’ve had all year!
It was very early and the floor was a bit sparse from about the 60 per cent mark of the first set, but it’s a wedding thing that, people are still milling about and eating and stuff and aren’t drunk enough yet.
I made sure to put some practice in to both the songs I was less confident on and into improv the last couple of days and I think I was quite brave in my playing tonight as a result 😂
Proper nerves beforehand though, it’s always gone by sometime in the second song but when you have to wait and watch the first dance beforehand it’s like waiting for the bloody gallows for me.
We very, very rarely get the full horn section in to practice and it’s always magic when you hear them. We sound checked with Jackie Wilson’s Higher and Higher as the second song and if you know the song well, there’s a horn break in the middle and it was just magic. It will sound really self indulgent but my own band gave me goose bumps in that moment when that part kicked in 😂
We’ve struggled to keep a consistent line up over the last couple of years but the newbies did us proud - we probably pulled this together in about six weeks with life happening and gaps in between. Drummer also broke his elbow a few weeks back!
Anyway here’s our sound check if anybody is interested. I’m on guitar skulking at the back behind the keys player. It may get taken down as it’s a cover.
NB I’ve deleted the more negative post from earlier sorry. No bad vibes tonight.

Sounds good to me. It's always difficult to tell the balance on a mobile phone recording taken in a high ceilinged metal warehouse.

Well, I was listening out for guitar at first and only noticed the lack of keys when I wanted to hear the whole mix. Glad it went well though. Our gig went well too. Had some great lighting going on and all songs went down a treat. photos.app.goo.gl/W2prv2w92FdssXQ97And me slinking it in the bass corner! photos.app.goo.gl/XgMfZzeY3cj5mufF7

Sounds good to me. It's always difficult to tell the balance on a mobile phone recording taken in a high ceilinged metal warehouse. Thanks. We did have audience feedback after the first set that the keys weren’t loud enough. Think we’d sorted it by the second. And yeah, it sounded like playing in a church in there when we were checking, was better when bodies came in, it’s remarkable the dampening effect of warm flesh! Definitely not the worst spot we’ve played in. At least we had room! Was a well behaved crowd too, that’s always a bother to me which is why I much prefer weddings to pub gigs.

quadfatherI always want to look at your stuff but I can’t figure it out. The links always take me to some Google app that starts asking for access to my own stuff and won’t let me progress. Am I missing something? Edit - I figured it out somehow. You have a much better waistline than me 😂 I’ve also found your band’s Insta. Very nice. A bit dreamy/shoegaze/hints of New Order maybe. Always respect the originals game. Different world. I miss the creativity of making songs instead of just covering them.

It's Google, it can be a pain sometimes, but I've changed the way I do the links now so it should work better. Haha, that waistline is driven by anxiety haha or well, it was. I suppose that's a positive outcome from it all! Cheers, yeah, the guitarists missus does all the promotional stuff. I haven't got insta so I just get the fb stuff. And yes, I do like the originals. It's nice to just dabble on something at home and then take it to the studio and we all have a crack at it and within a short time, we can normally get something out of it. It's a good way to work I find. Here's a short clip of us actually playing instead of just a photo. I'm still waiting to see what else we have. photos.app.goo.gl/baS9KNMJ8geVh42D7
