Fucking awesome man! And that's just the sound check? Sounds ace to me! Thanks sir. Sadly the keys are a bit inaudible here. So, are you going to stick with this band then? And do they do covers or original or both? And this quote from your post - "Proper nerves beforehand though, it’s always gone by sometime in the second song but when you have to wait and watch the first dance beforehand it’s like waiting for the bloody gallows for me." Ah, man, how I can fully relate to that! Although its mainly gone now. I was checking how nervous I was during sound check and just before going on, and this time round, the excitement won and took over. I could sense some kind of, "don't fuck it up ffs" sensation, which is still present and correct from a huge fuckup I did about 20 years ago, but I think I've managed to say to that feeling, "ah just give it a rest, I'm fine" and just do it and get on with it. As long as I get into the groove, I'm fine now.

quadfatherTechnically this band is a couple of years old but it really builds off both the concepts, set, musical arrangements and even equipment of a much older one. I’ve just checked and that band’s first Facebook post was in summer 2015, with our first gig being in August of the same year. That will have been my first performance since sixth form! In reality it’s a continuation or evolution of that older band. As far as I remember we were rehearsing from earlier in the year than that, so it’s getting on for 9-10 years. I could probably write a semi-interesting book about this band and all the dramas and politics that have gone on in the past. This is the first lineup where it’s felt very frictionless in terms of personalities and objectives. So yeah I’m pretty invested. Me, the drummer and the female saxophonist there are the most longstanding members. It’s solely a covers band aimed at weddings/corporates. In the early days we hammered and were exploited by the pub scene but everybody is of an age where we like getting out of the house a bit for the practices and really want to work smart and get the decent payers (I.e weddings). You can make decent money doing it but it’s a slog and arranging 8 people is like herding cats!

Haha, that sounds cool. But what about original songs - do you ever think you'll do that? Meanwhile, here's another madness video clip! You get the full head bobbing in this one! photos.app.goo.gl/Wzoru7MdFmPbDv117

You get the full head bobbing in this one! photos.app.goo.gl/Wzoru7MdFmPbDv117I had a band as a kid and we mixed Korn and Deftones type shite with skate punk type stuff. There was rapping and everything, as bad as it sounds lol. I’ve had skeletons for nearly an album of stuff for ages and have recorded one song solo with programmed drums (actually programmed, not automatic). No vocals as I don’t sing. It’s very much 70s blues rock type stuff in the vein of Zeppelin etc. Not very original but it’s what I like. I recorded a couple of metal tunes last year in the same fashion but it’s just difficult to find the time between doing the band, doing my job, family, and other hobbies (I spend lots of time painting those silly little figures you may or may not know lol). I will try to make time to revisit the originals when the band has expanded it’s set a bit. Over the last two years we essentially relaunched the band several times and lots of time and progress was spent/lost on this. We were down a bass player from last summer and only got our guy in November. The singer and keys player are much newer than that. It’s really a testimony to the fact the old hands have been playing the stuff for so long and the new lot are so capable that we’ve got it together as fast as we did for that gig. It’s a constant frustration in the function band thing that people want the gigs but then cry off practice and get frustrated by the fact the music isn’t ready - which they caused! We had months and months of this. This lot seem like good eggs so far though.

Got my mac looked at yesterday. Old HDD out and new SSD in, everything cloned over. £300 for the local mac man to do it for me (it's an imac so wasn't touching the damn thing).
My god. it works like a dream. One of the reasons I hadn't been doing any music for months was because it was running so fucking slow. Finally diagnosed it as a failing hard drive and boom, it's like a brand new mac. Already started fannying around with a few riffs.
So, the boy announced that he was enjoying the bass at school. Spent the whole evening with him in my office / studio / mancave and he's now gone downstairs with a bass, an amp, a tuner, a music stand, a stool, a couple of books and I'm going to show him how to access the Bassbuzz course. He seems quite taken with it. I did wanr him that if he doesn't play it, it's all going back upstairs and he won't get the chance again (he's already given up the piano after four years which irks me, so I'm being quite strict with this).
We'll see how he gets on.

Nice one! I hope he sticks with it. That would be great. The bassbuzz course is a great idea too!

The way I would get a youngster hooked on bass these days is to head to YouTube and show him Davie504, he is absolutely hilarious.

Edit: Even if I've since forgotten everything and have gone back to playing in my own cackhanded fashion.

Also, my musical synth shenanigans might have paid off. I've been approached by a film director doing a synth vibed UK production.
He's just been round my house today and loves it all so I'm onboard now, and might even get a cameo in it, along with potentially some of my synth dittys in background scenes, never mind showing a famous actor how to use synths convincingly on set!
Super exciting!

I honestly can't get my head around it. It's like one of those, "did that just really happen" moments.
But it's all above board. Incidental music. Name in credits. Doing some work that I actually love instead of mindless shite.
I need a drink.

Few days late November moving all the kit and setting it up, and then some more days in early December on the sets with the actors. Then in March time ish, I get a copy of the film and review it to see if I can put my music on it. Then the director wants to release it around the time of the film festivals.
Still all mental.

That's fucking awesome. How did he find you to get in touch? I saw a post on a synth sub in reddit, asking for someone in the greater Manchester region with some synths and an interest in collaborating. I replied and a few emails later and a video call, the director is round my house, chatting about it all and answering my questions and then I showed him the synths and played some of my own music and he was happy with all of it. Mental!

I actually - for the first time in nearly 20 months - finished a tune this week. It's a christmas miracle. It's just another three minutes of punky rock rubbish but it felt amazing to actually do something. Just blitzed it over the last couple of nights. Had such an urge to do it.

Love the vocals. And the way the drums do a sort of half time but not quite when you're in the (?) Chorus? And that effect later on is nice. And I swear you've nicked something off the doom soundtrack when you break it down! Or I've been playing too much doom! Awesome mate
