Looks like the PSVR2/PC dongle is now official. $60 for what is effectively a breakout box that needs DisplayPort, and doesn’t support most of the stuff that makes PSVR2 unique like eye tracking and haptics. Makes sense they went that route rather than single usbc, but I can see people confused as to why.

That's a laundry list of omissions!

I’m not surprised to be honest. Virtually nothing on PC would have baked in support for most of those things, and seeing as Sony seem intent on letting this thing die, the chances of PSVR titles on PC are slim.

This is effectively just “hey now you don’t have to buy another headset if you have the setup already and want PCVR”, which is probably going to be an astonishingly low number.

MULTIPOST
Also hilarious that this doesn’t even include a DisplayPort cable, so now we’ll have a fun repeat of the HDMI 4K compatibility fun.

I have a PSVR2 and a 4090 based PC. I was looking at the Quest 3 but may give this adapter a go. Shame about all the bells and whistles missing - no HDR? :-(

I was honestly a little tempted myself as my Index is looking a little ancient now, but it would really be a minimal upgrade, and I still don’t feel like there’s a killer PS5 VR game yet, especially with the lack of back-compat.

This is probably a stupid question but could I connect it to my steam deck and run the VR from that to the PSVR2?

Short version is no. Long version is not without a fuckload of extra gubbins like USBc to DisplayPort adapters, and even then performance will be atrocious.

I'm interested in this. I don't own a PSVR2, but I have an old HTC Vive that I've been wanting to upgrade, but want to avoid getting a Facebox device. I would think this would be a big upgrade for me. Plus, I have a PS5 and some of the VR games exclusive there look really good (and might give me reason to use my PS5, seeing as hardly anything else is exclusive nowadays).
That is quite a lot of stuff you are losing on PC though. Not really that surprising, seeing as the controllers lose a lot if they aren't plugged in, but still disappointing.

If the new Aliens game for PSVR2 is stellar (unlikely) and it comes down another £100 from current DOP price I might bite.

Just ordered a Q3 from Argos. Anybody you nerds want to give me a referral link?

Sure! www.meta.com/referrals/link/dirtylake1Got it a few days ago and just the lack of a wire and being able to be in a different room is a big bonus. It’s a small thing but it’s a barrier that meant the PSVR2 hardly ever got used.

Toying with the idea of selling on my PS5 stuff and going MQ3 - mainly for Flight Sim.
Would be interested to try one but tricky finding one round here on demo. I think Currys may have a demo setup in Derby though I guess it will be just the standalone stuff.

Do it. It's really excellent. My PS5 is currently on ebay as it's just not being used. Think I'm past the VR honeymoon period (it's now been about 4 months) and yet I still have the urge to use the Quest most days.
I do simracing via a link cable. The image quality is outstanding, so you'll have an equally great time with flight sims. I had a triple monitor setup and they've also been packed up for sale as no longer required. It really is a bit of revelation if you've never tried modern features like pancake lenses, mixed reality and hand tracking.
I thought I'd be 90/10 sim racing to other stuff but actually it's been probably 40/60. There are more things I want to try than I have time.
Happy to help/advise if you have any questions.
One thing to be aware of is you probably will want to buy a bunch of accessories early on to get the most out of it. Avoid the official ones. The bundled strap is painful after an hour.

The thing that stops me using my Quest 3 a lot more is the faff of it all. For a start having a kids account is a nightmare - if they are under 13 it will block most things and every now and then just re- block it for shits and giggles. On my account it just doesn’t load the horizon feed or the store over half the time. No idea what I’m doing wrong but the whole thing just seems like a pain to me!

Flight Sim is about the only thing Q3 isn’t very good at. The problem is you’re adding an encode and decode step to a game that runs very poorly. I have a 7800X3D / 4090 and it runs between 55 and 60 fps. Most people lock it at 45fps, and if you start adding 20-50 ms of latency on top of that, it gets nauseating. I’d wait for that psvr2 link box, if you don’t like it, sell the whole lot.

I'm quite surprised. Sounds like that's a specific MS Flight Sim issue? Can you run OpenXR and foveated rendering? I've heard it's very good for DCS World.
I have a 5600x and 3080 and generally race at a stable 72fps in AMS2 and AC with a lot of graphical detail (I could run 90Hz and medium settings). Despite the encode/decode latency isn't noticeable and obviously for racing that's pretty important.

I did some quick googling and it seems many Q3 users recommend the OpenXR method for improved performance.
My setup is 7800x3d+4070 so I am expecting to drop a lot of settings to medium but was hoping for a reasonable result.
Also, turning off real-time traffic and weather but keeping MP on seems to improve my current results (1440p UW OLED).
Bah, tricky to test without stumping up the cash!

I’m thinking of selling my psvr2 aswell . I think I used it about 5 times and it’s sat on a shelf for about 2 years! how much is an acceptable price to sell at?

MSFS is absolutely the worst running VR application out there. That said, I’ve spend over 450 hours in it. Tell you what, I’ll try the Q3 wired when I can.

So I spend last night getting the settings right for Oculus link with the cable, and this morning did my standard worst case test flight, Brussels to Heathrow in the PMDG 737. It’s totally a viable way to play this, latency is fixed thanks to the cabled connection. It’s a bit of a kerfuffle to set up, You have the oculus app open, autofps to manage LODs and the Oculus Diagnostics tool to up the res because the image is very soft by default. I hit a consistent 45fps except for once landed at Heathrow, but it’s just an incredibly busy time of year in terms of traffic. It’s certainly going to be fine if you want to muck about in a cessna, airliners are pushing it as you need both clarity far in the distance and close by because of all the screens and gauges you need to read. I’ll say this though, the lenses of the Q3 are that good that you get clarity across the entire field of view, in my Reverb G2 I need to turn my head way more because of the relatively small sweet spot.

Cheers. I don't fly airliners into busy airports rally. More a backcountry STOL or military jet flyer really. Low traffic zones around the globe.but
Thinking the VR would be good for formation, ACM and refueling etc.

In DCS? Don’t play it but I gather that runs at 90fps easily because it’s fully multithreaded so shouldn’t be an issue either.

No, MSFS. I know there are no weapons systems but there are a few good that go on group flights etc. Some ACM but mainly quite chilled.
Finding quieter areas has been useful to avoid rubber-banding issues, so I guess frame rates will be acceptable.

Any Quest 3 owners who play online regularly? Demeo? Walkabout Mini Golf? Golf+? Racket Ball VR?
Communities/lobbies seem mainly American, if anyone fancies any games shout up!

So, picked up a MQ3 and have been playing with Google Earth VR, No Man's Sky and MSFS2020.
Quite a wow moment as I've avoided any VR setups until today.
MSFS will indeed need some dialling in and adjustment from my usual high/ultra settings, but the sense of depth, hugging valleys and taking hill crests inverted is quite a thrill.
