My arms are aching just watching this climbing. Is it *that* exciting?!

Yeah I have been feeling sceptical about both China and USA performances, particularly USA track and China in the pool, more so than usual. Something feels very off to me with USA athletics results. Feels to me like they've found some advantage others don't have but that advantage could be completely legal. It's not normal for them to be this far ahead of the rest across the track events. Though I'm not sure it applies to the throws, hence me speculating about the shoes. Equally it could be a sports science breakthrough that they aren't sharing. Though you'd think that'd be hard given how many overseas athletes train in the US. Don't alot of the coaches/agents manage multiple nationalities

Fantastic to watch the climbing. Wish there was more coverage of these sports over football rugby et al

Brilliant. Really didn't see that coming and had assumed the Japanese guy would win easily.
Whole competition was an absolute pleasure to watch.

Plenty of overseas athletes join US university based training groups including our own 100m sprinter who broke through this year.

For the avoidance of doubt lol, I was actually referring to her performance, but yes she is far from unpleasant to behold.

I'm not sure how China somehow alters physics for their diving team but they're ridiculous. 6 golds FFS, no-one beat them, GB second in diving with 4 total medals.

It's super impressive because I can't fathom how you could cheat at diving. I think they get slightly more generous scoring from their reputation but their winning margins are far greater than any dodgy mark inflation would permit. Just seems entirely deserved.
Weight lifting has to be the least interesting spectator sport at the Olympics, why are we being shown that and not Breaking, BBC? Literally just picking stuff up (or failing to pick stuff up).

Well for all those sports you watch at the Olympics and go “I should really give that a go” breakdancing… is definitely not one of them! 😝

The rumour is Lugworm blood is the new EPO, in that it gives a huge oxygen uptake boost. For endurance sports the benefits are obvious but even other sports that are more power based can train harder leading up events so still beneficial. It’s incredibly expensive but there’s no test for it so the wealthiest nations could absolutely be on it.

If there's no way to test for it they absolutely are using it then. Most doping happens out of season to increase training and reduce recovery.
I'm still convinced that's how Bolt achieved his huge improvements within a year, by training harder with drugs and then stopping when near any events. At the time all the other Jamaican runners got caught doping to the point of it being described as rampant in the camp, and yet the guy breaking records by ridiculous margins (that will never be beaten) was clean?

That's why you have out of comp randomised and compulsory drug testing. I'd be fairly confident Bolt was clean in so far as he'd be tested for all known drugs on the regular. His samples will be kept for retesting as new tests are developed so he may yet be caught if he was using something new. Doping is an area I've been fascinated by since reading Charlie Francis's book 'Speed Trap' as a teenager for a school project. Properly opened my eyes. amzn.eu/d/4PcJKvjTLDR through the 80s and 90s all successful sprinters were doping.

4x100m is a hard event to watch, if we had good exchanges we would have won it easy :c

USA's final change was awful too, jogging off slowly till he felt the baton, the sort of thing you used to see at school.

I don’t know how Carling wasn’t DQ’d there. Already on a yellow and rode right in front of the Dutch rider, if that was on the street, he’d be wearing his nose. Sorry, but that’s shit

Jeez, that last changeover in the women's 4x100 was a disaster for Team GB.
