Incredible run by the American McLaughlin in 400m hurdles. She blew Femke Boll out of the water, new WR - wow

Jeez the athletics medal table is ridiculous. Not saying the US are cheating but I wouldn't be shocked to find out they have special Nike shoes or something. Never seen anything like it. It makes no sense. Obviously they have the biggest number of athletes to choose from so you expect them to do best but their advantage is never normally this big.

That’s just the 2020s version of suddenly developing a limp after not winning.

Is it me or are the US winning a whole bunch of unexpected track events? I mean, they've always been pretty good at track, and I haven't been following the sport, but it seems like there have been a bunch of races where the US athlete was hardly mentioned before the race, and then beat the favorites.

Seems kinda nearly sorta ok to me. I'm no expert but I follow athletics quite a bit between Olympics and lots of this seems kinda ok (general widespread drug taking hypotheses notwithstanding). It's more notable how badly Jamaica has lost out versus their times in the last 2 years rather than US exceptionalism. How widespread drug taking is we can only guess, I'm guessing pretty wide though (drug testing versus drug taking will always be behind).

Maybe the commentators are just doing a bad job explaining contenders, and focussing on UK athletes chances too much. But I think there have been a couple where a non-UK athlete was hyped as an almost certain winner, and then a US guy or gal popped past them. Not that there's any such thing as a guaranteed winner.

Yeah I have been feeling sceptical about both China and USA performances, particularly USA track and China in the pool, more so than usual. Something feels very off to me with USA athletics results.

Feels to me like they've found some advantage others don't have but that advantage could be completely legal. It's not normal for them to be this far ahead of the rest across the track events. Though I'm not sure it applies to the throws, hence me speculating about the shoes. Equally it could be a sports science breakthrough that they aren't sharing. Though you'd think that'd be hard given how many overseas athletes train in the US.
