Biles almost tumbling into orbit. Probably the only person who can jump higher than CR7.

Swimming is usually the evening attraction for the first week then athletics for the second.
Happy for Biles, been through a lot of shit and then even more shit from dickhead after Tokyo.

is it gymnastics and swimming every evening? Usually in the first week. Although for 2028 the athletics will be in the first week.

As someone pointed out, being LGBT in Algeria is punishable with a prison sentence. So why would they send a trans woman to officially represent them? Simone Biles my word, she is just a generational talent. More outrage and drama over this than the Netherlands letting a child rapist represent them.

I hadn’t bothered to watch a medal ceremony up to now.
The medals look a bit wanky this time round.
Kind of glad I didn’t bother to qualify.

BMX Racing is on the BBC Red Button Thank God for that Claire Balding doing the Murray career post mortem with two swimming commentators was tooth-pummelling

Blimey, Andy's retirement was a bit of an anticlimax.

Genuinely a bit choked up about Murray. A wonderful sportsman and role model. Right time to call it, but you just know that he will have no idea what to do with himself next such has been his commitment to tennis. Hope he can find something else that makes him happy.

Like a lot of people, I didn't much care for Andy Murray when he first came onto the scene. He was scruffy, dour, and petulant - especially compared to the clean-cut Tim Henman - and something about him rubbed me the wrong way from the start.
Since then, he has done an awful lot of growing up (with the media's gaze trained upon him throughout, which I can only imagine makes things a thousand times harder), and now he seems like a genuinely great dude.
One thing he *did* seem to have in common with Henman was his status as the archetypal British sportsman - a perennial plucky underdog, always the bridesmaid but never the bride.
I figured he'd never win anything. Boy, did he make me eat those words!
What a stellar career he has had. Enjoy retirement, "Muzza" - you've certainly earned it.

It's not in either of their characters but Murray and Rafa treating the rest of the Olympics as an extended leaving do would be fitting. I want to see footage of the two them drunk in a pedalo on the Seine.

I think he'll be alright. He's gone through so much rehab in the last what, 8 years? he would have gone mad as balls if he didn't have something to keep him occupied

Reckon he will do coaching or maybe buy up more hotels and focus on that?

He strikes me as one of those absolute obsessive sports people that are addicted to competing. Not saying I think he'll suddenly be on the whiskey on 11am or anything. I just have a hunch he might be someone that almost immediately gets back involved as a full time coach or tv presenter or something. Davis Cup Captain perhaps. Probably also do a few legends events and take them too seriously.

It always felt a case of when, not if with Murray for me. I did manage to completely forget that he won gold in Rio. He's an absolute legend in my book and don't think we'll see Brit like him in my lifetime.

Genuinely a bit choked up about Murray… Hope he can find something else that makes him happy. I foresee the new Roy Keane of tennis commentary. Just very dry and unreasonably dour at most things.

Disappointing that team fencing isn't a team death match arrangement.

Someone found some fight from 2022 featuring the Italian woman from the controversy today, and she pulls some of the funniest Peter Griffin shit I've ever seen in sport. I'm now slightly doubting the motives behind what she did today.
