One of the crew is only getting a bronze according to the BBC card. Oops.

And bronze for the men’s four! Three finals, three medals. Awesome.

I dunno what to say about this Algerian trans boxer situation... other competitors literally have no chance, the Italian woman gave up within 45 seconds after taking two big hits. How sports like boxing are going to deal with this going forward is anyone's guess!

One of our team had to drop off a call earlier to... do a radio interview?
Turns out he coached one of the women rowers who won bronze earlier 😂

I had assumed it was a Caster Semenya situation where they were born female but someone arbitrarily decided they weren't womanly enough.

Hmmm good question... amongst all the shitposting online I can't actually find out the truth. A lot of reporting is saying she was born male so I assumed trans, but apparently she was acutally born female but it was discovered in 2023 she had XY chromosone. Defo sounds like a Semenya situation...

From my brief reading, IBA chair said she had an XY chromosome in regards to her 2023 ban, but IOC said it was due to increased levels of testosterone above the limit.

It's a really uncomfortable situation and it's highlighting the shortcomings of the current regs. They just don't adequately account for a testosterone advantage during puberty that exceeds female norms. Even if a person's levels are artificially suppressed later in life they've still had that genetic, natural advantage.
You could reasonably argue how is that different from being genetically lucky in other ways, and haven't these athletes had to deal with more than their fair share of adversity in their lives already given their circumstances.
It's hard but I don't see how you can watch this happening and not conclude that athletes born female and going through puberty as women are at a serious disadvantage. They will be denied a chance to ever compete for the biggest prizes in power sports. This is ultimately why gender categories exist in the first place. Something has to be done. Glad it's not my job to sort it out. Through well meaning efforts at inclusivity others are being excluded.

She also boxed in Tokyo in 2020 where she did well enough but was beaten in the QFs. She was much lighter then compared to now though, she really looks different. Could be a classic drugs thing, could be a Semenya-like situation but where the extra testosterone is being leveraged to beef her up a lot. I'mguessing it's yet another kind of awkward edge-case scenario to think about rather than a decider in a trans-rights argument.

I always really enjoy watching handball and volleyball every 4 years. Shame no-one’s ever really given a rat’s cock about either over here.

(Boaty Mc Boatrace) So boring they had no option but to abandon it. A well organised swarm of gnat's farts would have propelled the boats quicker.
Have they not seen the Portsmouth to Isle of Wight hovercraft? A well lined course of the rear end of those babies would have the boats flying across the water like bats out of hell.
/trademarks idea for future olympics

You guys have been missing out, you should have been watching www.xgames.com/ for the past 15 years Ooo. There's one in Chiba in September. Didn't know that. Bet it's sold out already... but would it be so amazing if you could watch it all the time, rather than just every 4 years?

Took it up while doing postgrad stuff at uni then played for the team in Brighton for a while until I broke my foot and decide I should probably stop.

They should bring back Trans World Sport for the meltdowns alone.

Though they seem to have added a Japan one as well recently. Which is great for me!

I played Volleyball competitively for 10 years in Ireland, where there are two leagues in Northern Ireland and an all Ireland league which we qualified whenever we won the top NI division. As well as competing for Ulster. Played a number of Tournaments accross the water in England and Scotland too. And a bit of beach with my brother too. It's just that the level isn't that high. Our league team was half made up of Polish players. I am enjoying watching it too. USA vs Serbia in the 6 aside was a brilliant match last night.

So true about the shitposting. I saw it all on Twitter first (*spit*) and thought yeah, that’s a bit iffy, but having tried to verify it I can’t find a source I trust that even says she is trans

At least that Twitter user didn't delete the Tweet, they deleted their entire account instead.

So if Khelif is deemed too manly for Women's Boxing but not man enough for Male Boxing, what category is she meant to fight in? I'd imagine if you ask all the detractors they'd just say none at all just because of their hatred of trans people in general, but she's not even trans!

So she's not even trans?
Must be confusing being one of those cunts whose been yellow "a woman is someone born with a vagina" at the moment if they're also complaining about this.
Honestly if she's not trans they seriously need to get the fuck over it, oh noes someone has a physical advantage making them better suited to sports.
Should they also have banned Michael Phelps for being born with an abnormally long torso and arms relative to his legs because it's so unfaiiiir.

As someone pointed out, being LGBT in Algeria is punishable with a prison sentence. So why would they send a trans woman to officially represent them?
Simone Biles my word, she is just a generational talent.
