What's on the menu tonight then?
Started with a Menabrea, now on a random craft lager I found in Lidl. Then gin (not opened this month's craft gin club box yet, woop!) Before perhaps finishing with a rioja.

There's a Brew Toon bottle looking at me, a non-alcoholic erdinger (look at what covid has done to me!) then probably a nice northern brewing co beer that's lurked in the fridge longer than usual. Maybe, just maybe, a leffe too if i really push the boat out and have 3 alcoholic beers. Depends how shit scotland play later tbh.

There’s about 2/3 of a bottle of crozes hermitage that the missus started last night, I’m about to pour myself one of those

Enjoy the eventual leffe pal I'd feign outrage and say 'Oi!', but, y'know...

Order some Guinness zero for delivery tomorrow. If it taste like normal Guinness, I'll be super happy.

Was gonna have a break this week. Got into work yesterday, and they're doing some sort of cumulative mileage thing where I'm signed up to cover at least 25 miles a week by foot/bike/whatever for the next 12 weeks. So instead of going for my usual afternoon siesta, I got on the bike and did 12k, then walked it home.
Of course, walking home took me past the pub.
Oh well.

Ah shucks!
I too was going to lay off the booze this week after Friday, Saturday and Sunday drinking. But it's Tuesday, the sun is out and I really fancy something already. That can't be a great sign can it?

Tuesday's are rubbish. If ever there was a day to drink, it's on a Tuesday.
And Wednesday.
Thursday.
Friday as it's nearly the weekend.
Saturday, of course.
Sunday because work the next day and you need to dull it.
Monday as it's the day before Tuesday, and Tuesday's are rubbish.

I've been dry for about three years because of a mental health psychotic episode. Long story short, if you think the police are transmitting thoughts directly into your mind with radio waves, it turns out that we live in an age where people like Chief Constables and MPs have email addresses that you can utilise to accuse when you have that three or four pint inhibition reduction.

Do some consultancy work 9 hours a week, the rest I'm a stay at home dad.
Today we've got the paddling pool and the bbq on the go.

That sounds like the last year of uni. 9 hours of lectures, rest of the time to revise/work on dissertation etc. Yeah, right!

Its slowly dawning on me that I have a problem.
I went three weeks sober earlier this year and it wasn't too bad, then promised myself only weekends, Then had a lot of family stuff happen and I'm back to 3-4 nights a week drinking.... Mainly 3 nights, but I'll sneak in a 4th if I can. Also have all the easy trigger points, bad day at work - Wine, some good news - Wine, some bad news - Wine, sunny outside - Wine etc. etc.
My favourite combo is 3 large beers and a bottle of white wine, so on an normal week I'm doing 9 large beers and 4 bottles of White Wine (I'll drink an extra bottle at weekend). Just writing it down I know its too much for a 46 year old. I function fine (I'm pretty high level at work) and don't get hungover as such, but it affects my life as I'm sluggish the next day and have less tolerance when the kids are playing up. I've not drank since Saturday and was all set to take a week off, then it gets sunny and all I can think of is a BBQ and booze...
Not sure what to do really I just don't seem to have the will power to stop and I'm not at full blown alcoholic levels but I'm out of shape (was always quite fit in the past) and know if I don't sort it out I'll be in trouble. Also have high blood pressure and history of heart attacks and strokes in the family. Even this doesn't stop me doing it!

That’s a fair whack of alcohol to be doing that regularly. You may not consider yourself an alcoholic but you might want to have a good long look at what you’ve written there

I don't think it's possible to transmit the route to going sober other than that sounds like my thought processes, so it is possible. Good luck.

We all do it. I’m not sure if it’s possible for anyone to have a completely healthy relationship with alcohol but you have to set some hard limits in place, and if you can’t stick to those then it’s time to admit there’s a problem. Just depends on where you want to draw the line I guess

Start small. Keep to the 3 or 4 nights dry. Knock it down to 2 beers and half a bottle a night when drinking. Do that for a few weeks and then reduce again. I'm not far off what you're drinking and have started to do similar. As discussed earlier though, it's the wine that is the worst...

Oh yeah I forgot, alcohol free white wine is pretty good. Red wine, forget it.

Cheers all, yep I don't think I can drink less wine at the time, it would be easier to just not drink it as Two Glasses would just get me in the mood... I've been speaking to my wife about it (she knows it's getting out of control) and I think I'm going to try and drink just one bottle of wine a week on either a Friday or Saturday night, then drink beers on the other two days. I tend to get sick of drinking beer anyway at about 4 or 5, so that should be achievable. That would take me down to say 10 beers and one bottle of wine a week, still too much, but a lot less than I'm on now. My problem is I like the feeling of being tipsy then going to bed, I don't get blind drunk just happy...

I'm just grateful that I don't really touch wine or spirits. It's strictly beer and cider. But yeah, I'll have tow.three in the pub on the way back then I'll finish the six I've got at home. I definitely consider myself a functioning alco, no point lying about it. Wake up slightly rough tomorrow, but then the walk to work will clear my head.
In myself, I'm not arsed, my personality doesn't change, I'm not some Jekyll and Hyde or anything. But I worry about my kids obv, and the money would come in damn useful at the moment.

Soon enough your tolerance will drop and you’ll be feeling tipsy before bed on just a couple of beers, I’d be feeling hammered after 3 big beers and a bottle of wine to myself these days

Have you tried Eisberg white. I remember a youtube from a woman that was a wine reviewer and due to ill health was forced to give up all drink. She echoed your sentiment until she tried Eisberg and said it was indistinct from real wine. I'll try and find the youtube. found it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-c2dlf8T_U0
