On the Pimms tonight (as ever), for anyone not in the know I used to hate the stuff but my mum/wife drank it for decades and I always resisted it but about 5 years ago I kind of got into it, they drank it stronger than I liked (ironically) so was always put off but now I make it a little weaker than textbook. I'm finding myself as of late (4 years have past) necking a bit of neat booze just to get the levels up and then enjoying a 'relaxing' drink afterwards. Anyway just getting the thread back up and running. That said I'm not an all night drinker, I have a blast from 6-9ish otherwise I'll feel like shit for the next 24 hours. š

I also enjoyed the distinct ambiguity of that forward slash.

I know it's a potentially worrying night when a glass becomes optional for anything other than beer.

I felt stupidly proud that I managed to not drink for three whole days, which isn't really that long at all.
I think I'm going to try restricting my drinking to only occasions where I'm with friends... Though that still doesn't leave many dry days.
Maybe I'll try and do a whole week. Starting tomorrow.

I'm moving to a no beer and wine during the week, gin only if I want a midweek pick-me-up.

I had 1/3 of a bottle of prosecco & a glass of wine yesterday when round at friends.
I think that may be the most i have drunk in a good few months. Covid has messed with my interest in booze quite a bit. I was at maybe 2 beers a night on fri & sat at most for ages during it.
Now socialising is becoming a 'thing' again i will start to have a few more from time to time.
Or is this just older age sensibleness kicking in?

Yes probably. I am not sensible enough yet.

I try to be sensible but I seem able to fall into a habit of drinking 3-8 beers a night (depending on how many I have at hand) and end up watching utterly banal shite on youtube.
Currently I only seem to easily take Monday and Wednesday off from drinking. Tuesdays and Saturdays is boardgames, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays is online games. If I don't drink I'm scared might realise I don't actually enjoy any of it (I'm sure I would enjoy it. Just not as much. Actually the online games I'm less sure about)

@drhickman. I know what you mean about online gaming etc and drinking. I used to do a lot of both. I quit drinking for good a few years ago and haven't online gamed since. In my case at least, I realised gaming online was surprisingly dull without it and it wasn't helped by me being a pretty shy person (which is what got me into drinking in the first place) so without alcohol I said a lot less and got involved a lot less.
Still I wasted a hell of a lot of time with both in the past and that's where both are staying. I think my first marriage breakup was not helped by either.

I'm the opposite when it comes to gaming. I can't drink and play games. I lose all interest. But definitely like a drink with a boardgame evening.

I don't drink and play games that require dexterity. Or rather, I play but don't save after. It helps me stay sober some nights.

Mostly just raid in World of Warcraft. Yeah, I'm one of those weirdos still playing it, but it's honestly more about the people I know, guildies and friends.
The playstyle really lends itself to drinking. Plenty of downtime and quite often can play one handed (wahey!)
More generally I do have an issue with just getting carried away and drinking all the beer I have. So I'll have the intention to have 2 cans, but 2 turns into 8 very easily.

So.... Bourbon fans, is Michters worth the money? I tend to go for Eagle Rare but I'm standing in Waitrose and the Michters is Ā£48 and calling to me....

Had a cracking rye whisky by F.E.W a bit ago.
Can't beat a single malt though. I've still yet to find a distillery I like more than Ardbeg.
Bought a Highland Park 10 year old "Viking Scars" yesterday though, seem to have drunk about half since yesterday evening. It's drinkable, but lacks a bit of bite and depth.

Was it decent then? I never saw it to try.
I am regularly using af beers as 'spacers' these days to behave myself.
Life's been shit enough without monstrous hangovers too during covid times!

Worked at a pizza place during the pandemic. Oh, last year into this of the pandemic. Anyway, owner was a sketchy fucker who took away kitchen tips after a server whined. Then started paying us āover the tableā which involved taking out some taxation but keeping it for himself
So when he started ordering in liquor and one of the bottles was an 18 year old McCallanā¦
Amazingly guilt free drinking. Just wished Iād not tanned it so quickly.

Can't beat a single malt though. I've still yet to find a distillery I like more than Ardbeg. Ardbeg is quite special, there's nothing really that has the same intensity. The usual suspects of course: Lagavulin for more smoke, Laphroaig for a more vegetal tang. I haven't tried the new Port Charlottes.

It's a tuesday and I've possible drank more than I should, only three beers, but one of those was Wiper And True's "hardshake" 11% imperial stout. Treacle like, with an actual alcohol burn. Good stuff.
The Eletric Bear "Gose and it Goes and it Gose" was enjoyable. Was hoping to get a proper sour to follow the stout (it's a good way to follow) but this gose was pretty good.
Finished the beers with a Wild Beer "Wild IPA", which is just a very drinkable IPA, nothing fancy, just well done. Not too hoppy.
All that may have been fine but now I'm just drinking measures of the Highland Park "Viking Scars" whisky I mentioned earlier. I've got too much to do tomorrow for this, but fuck it.
Appear to have ended up listening to Rancid and NOFX in a weird attempt to remind myself of my lost youth.

Weirdly that was me a couple of nights ago only it was Lars and the Bastards, The Distillers and Highland Park Dragon Legend.

There is some shared ground there that I appreciate. Had totally forgot about Lars and the Bastards, might have to have a listen.
It was weird how Lars went from punk in those earlier Rancid albums, to biker when he was doing the bastards stuff, and seems to have settled on skinhead going forward. Meanwhile Tim Armstrong seems to have gone full hobo.

Never took to Tim Armstrong much, and this may be sacrilege but I listen to Lars stuff more than actual Rancid, although Ruby Soho always needs a turnout.
