I fancied trying Popeyes and then saw a bloke in the office get one, only to smell what he did in the toilet an hour later - has put me off for life. As opposed to KFC, which makes you shit the sweetest smelling roses? Even so, this was another level - proper chemical warfare grade

Going a bit international for fast food but on a recent trip to Berlin I had a couple of the things that the city is rather famous for : currywurst! Had one right near Checkpoint Charlie and a day later one near the big cathedral and on that occasion I came to my final thoughts about them : they're crap. Seriously how on Earth is this seen as anything but a ropey sausage with a shite sauce on top, I've had better sausage based food grabbing a hot dog from some ropey van at a non-league football match. Somewhere I can recommend eating at if you want something a bit different in Berlin is this place, a restaurant that serves food based on East German food. www.volkskammer.de/ It was wunderbar.

I got attacked by a sparrow while trying to enjoy some Berlin currywurst. Kind of put me off it for life.

Last time I was in Derby, they had opened a Tim Hortons in Chaddesden. There’s one next to Costco on pride park. I’m not sure the UK needs another coffee chain but they seem to be giving it a go

I think it’s got to be done when you’re in Berlin, but you’re right. As far as trademark dishes go it’s a crap one.
Planning on a weekend in Madrid this June, so any recommendations are welcome.

The trips involve lengthy coach trips, and that’s when you need a coffee and a bag of Timbits. Not sure if it will work in the Uk. I am, however, really happy to see Wendy’s pop up in the UK. Good burgers, very good chicken fingers, milkshakes worth dipping fries into. Hell fucking yeah.

But the sweet bits are good.

I didn’t try anything as I’d already had my cheapy hotdog and coffee meal and had a palette of croissants and a tarte aux pomme the size of a toilet seat in the car.
I was tempted, though. I have a weird compulsion to try chain coffee to see if it’s as shit as Costa. I just can’t get over how horrible (and popular) it is

One has opened up by us too. I will try it some time.
Doughnut/timbits are nice apparently, but burgers not great. Although, I don't think that's their main thing.

Love that scrappy hotdog and drink deal from Costco. Shame they stopped the family pizza meal deal, ridiculous what you got for 12 quid.

McDonalds hamburgers are insane value. I always order one extra on the side. I ask for double ketchup and mustard so it's always fresh and I like sauce. It's insane how much better a piping hot burger is. When cold the toasted bread goes like any bread does when it cools.
The El Bulli, best restaurant in the world, dude spoke quite highly of McDonald's hamburgers noting he could never produce something of the same quality at the price.

Cannot recommend here highly enough: Lola Sí Mola maps.app.goo.gl/aJw1V6jkAy2egZwX7?g_st=icHad an unbelievable paella with my brother. Needs a reservation but there’s generally lots of availability. The San Miguel market is a great spot to try lots of different food and drinks. Can be quite busy but you can usually grab a seat.

There’s a little indie burger chain called Meat:Stack, had one from a popup they had outside a little pub in rural Northumberland and it was great. Then discovered they have a branch in Leeds (one in Newcastle too, think they’re the only two permanent ones). They’re beautiful, as are the beef dripping fries, and they have a fridge full of local craft beers. If you’re in The North you should do the thing.

It's really not healthy living so close to a Drive-Thru McD's...
McCrispy Deluxe
The chicken part of the burger isn't actually that bad. Usually McDonalds chicken burgers are dry as hell, but this is decent enough. But in an attempt to be "deluxe" they go and add some really cheap shit on top which actually detracts from the burger. Cold, hard bacon straight from a packet, being the most baffling addition. You're still better off going to a KFC or any chicken shop worth its salt.
6/10
McSpicy
Again, the chicken bit is fine but this time it's just overly basic. I was forgetting it as I was eating it. Not a patch on a zinger.

Not really fast food but the upgraded £5 Tesco meal deal has a beef, cheddar, rocket and truffle mayonnaise roll.
It's pretty damn good.

I would smash a Gregg's sausage roll right now. Or just any proper sausage roll as opposed to the weird ones they have here.

If I had access to a Gregg's right now I would get a sausage roll, tuna crunch roll and a bag of Walkers Max cheese and onion.

That's more outrageous than your fish and chips statement! Ha, TBF sausage rolls here are sometimes okay, not usually, but sometimes. Fish and chips are almost always extremely poor. Food to go here is rubbish outside of pies and sushi (both better than UK). I know packet sandwiches and meal deals aren't exactly inspiring, but take-away sandwiches here are tragic. I don't know what's so hard about it. Hence I really want a Tesco chicken and bacon sandwich. Or the chicken pasta pot, was mad for them as a student.

Hunting for a quick eat in Copenhagen last weekend, I discovered the Danish culture of having hotdog stands on what felt like every street corner, which I wrongly assumed was a German only phenomenon.
Different from the Germans however, is each stall seemingly does around 20 different kinds/variation of sausages and hotdogs.
Pick of the bunch, a danish hotdog, wrapped in bacon and grilled until the bacon is crispy.. Topped with fried onions, crispy onions, ketchup, Danish remoulade (a mix of mayo, cabbage & cucumber) with sliced gherkin for good measure.
Outrageously good and for around £6 a pop, I must have eaten my own bodyweight in the things.
