Gogglebox? That’s awesome, one of my favourite TV programmes. It’s genuinely hilarious at times Agreed. I used to be of the "but why?" persuasion but I watched it and it's often genuinely brilliant and hilarious. Yep, my wife was into it and I judged her, harshly. Confident in my superior ability to understand what's good I filed it on the same thrash filled shelf with pretty much anything reality related and wondered "why?". Then I watched it and realised it's fucking hilarious.

I'm physically capable of sitting and playing a game for hours upon end, like the streamers, I'm not capable of sprinting 11km in 90 mins with the skill of Messi so not sure your analogy is great. Anyway, people enjoy it, great, I'd just always rather play a game I'm keen on than watching someone else play it, I always have a backlog so I'd never waste time watching someone play a game I've already finished when I could be playing a fresh, new game from my backlog. I used to think Youtube was wank as well and have came round despite my fuddyduddyness so maybe there's hope. Narrator : "There wasn't." See, I don't understand people being obsessed with their backlogs. It just seems like a constant source of stress for something that's suppose to be fun. The 52 games in 52 weeks thread is nuts. Just blitzing through games to meet some arbitrary quota. All gamers are fucking weird No stress, I just buy games I want to play, usually when they're on sale and I can't keep up so always have things waiting that I'm looking forward to play. e.g. I'm 40 hours into Yakuza 7 but have Ghost of Tsushima, Judgment, RE3, Demon's Souls (to go back to). I want to buy the PS5 RE7 remake, I still have to try TLOU2, Death Stranding:DC. That's without looking at Psychonauts 2 and other Gamepass stuff on the Xbox and the Switch stuff (which I'm saving for the eventual new model) so with all that that I'm genuinely looking forward to playing, fuck watching some chump playing them instead. I do, however also find the 52 weeks thing odd and platinizing games to be OCD joyless wank.

Google Box is equally baffling. Watching people watch TV is just fucking weird. Reaction videos in general are a bit odd 99% of them seem to be utterly fake, winds this grumpy old man up.

The gameplay was like Last Ninja, but the viewpoint wasn't isometric, it was flat. Each screen was static and highly detailed. The characters took up more of the screen than Last Ninja, and the main character was a samurai, with bent knees to hold himself low to the ground and the sword held flat. Game must have come out about '92-94. I'm wondering if this was a demo of a game that didn't release. I've looked through lists and lists of games and never found anything that matches. Top down or side scroller? Can you think of anything else about the gameplay? It was a similar perspective to say Streets of Rage, but again no scrolling, just static screens like Flashback. Gameplay was going from screen to screen with one or two baddies coming from both sides. Shurikens could be thrown at them. It was how I learnt about Shurikens so it must have been written on the game screen. That's all I can remember.

Speaking of Bruce Lee on the 8-bit micros, there have been two sequels released in recent years for the C64: Bruce Lee 2 kollektivet.nu/brucelee2/Bruce Lee: Return of Fury megastyle.itch.io/bruce-lee-return-of-furyBoth games capture the spirit and visuals of the original perfectly, but are much more challenging to complete. The last revision of Return of Fury ('Duology') comes with the original Bruce Lee, with bug fixes and added simultaneous 3 player support. If you liked the original game they're well worth checking out as they're both free to download.

Couldn't be shadow dancer? No, that doesn't start in a garden.
Hmmm.

There's a game that I've been trying to find for years now. It was Amiga or Win 95 and you played a samurai, moved from screen to screen, threw throwing stars at the bad guys. It started in a garden scene, outdoors at least. Might start a "what the fuck was this game?" thread... Could it have been Sword of Honour or Ninja Mission (aka Ninja on the 8-bits)? Ninja character rather than samurai, but lots of star throwing and screen by screen gameplay in both of those.

Samurai don't use shurikens, I question the historical accuracy of this game if your description is correct.

This is a great shout. I loved this game. Brilliant title music too. I used to sit and watch the intro through every time I played it. youtu.be/gd8TobmMQdAIt was a pretty tough game as I recall. Mind you, most were back then - kids don’t know how easy they’ve got it!

I have some very specific memories that I can't find in videos there but the elements are all there that it's got to be. The detail is really high, and quite natural, which matches my memory. I might be confusing the main character being a samurai with you fighting samurais, so hell knows what other things my minds fudged. Now to watch a long play of Sword of Honour. Thanks!

So you can't access EG now (on desktop) without turning off adblocker entirely or paying £3.99 a month. I guess that's it then. No more post breakup messing around. We go our separate ways forever.

It still works with a combination of privacy badger and unlock origin extensions for Chrome.

For me the 52 games thread is just an incentive to actually finish games rather than get 90% of the way through and switch games. Also to play some of the shorter games I might enjoy.
Note that I rarely make it to 40 in the thread though...
As for YT Vids, I like things like DF Retro when it covers a series I am interested in and the odd speedrun can be entertaining but other than that just trailers and the odd review if it isn't too long and the reviewer isn't too annoying... I do watch more techy things like Phawx's Windows handheld coverage sometimes though.

I quite like the 52/52 thread - I don't really post in there very often but I keep track of the games I've finished in a similar way. I find it really helpful to make sure I'm actually playing the games I'm buying and not just spunking money on stuff I'll never get round to, and now that Game Pass is a thing it's useful to get an idea of how much I'm getting out of the service. Given that there's so much on there too it helps me stick with games a bit longer rather than binning everything off within an hour of trying it in favour of the new shiny.
Edit: or what one_vurfed_gwrx said.

Weird... It definitely didn't work with just ublock for me. Maybe something to do with the cookies I've accepted.

EG stopped working for me at work, too. We use edge chromium and I think the GP to block all tracking counts as an adblock because we definitely dont have an adblock plugin.
So, yeah, if its fucked and adblock isnt on, it might be that.

I’m blown away by the huge amount of exclusive content there for subscribers. It looks like there has been 4 articles since it started, most of those on day one.
If you’re going to ask people to pay for some exclusive content then surely something needs to be provided. That’s a lot of money for adblocking otherwise.

Yeah you definitely have provide a fair amount of high quality material to make people believe they aren't getting ripped off.
If it's simply gaming news and press releases you can get that info anywhere.

It was all a bit sad when they booted us but I'm honestly starting to think they did us a favour. Reedpop has properly rodgered them.

Im still genuinely quite surprised that there is no EGX coverage on EG. Even if they have properly bisected the site and the show, shirley a UK game show is still worth just reporting on?

If my name was being associated with that shitshow from yesterday, I'd probably be keeping pretty quiet about it as well.
