I'm genuinely surprised our current government haven't latched on to and adopted the term. Such a perfect cop-out buzzword for "we're fucking this off" every time I've ever seen it used.

I've seen it used at work, by IT when they were getting rid of some crusty old software. Thought it was a bit naff at the time.

Yeah, I presumed its usage had its basis in IT/systems terminology? Along with all the other grammatically incorrect wank that seems to get appropriated in that particular sector.
Could quite easily have just been 'The sun is setting on the Eurogamer Forum', or 'Alas, the sun doth set on the Eurogamer Forum', or 'Fuck off you cunts, go and actually do some goddamned work!'.
