It probably took them a while to remember we existed at all.

The 400/500£ figure is interesting. I'd like to know what amount of clicks/ad views that amounts to...
Though it could be what Craigy mentioned and the main issue being refactoring the forum code to newer code instead of just the cost of running it.
And as an aside I never had any issues with MrTomFTW... He just got called out for being a hypocrite and took it in a very bad way (like a diva almost), though he was alright as a moderator... Maybe I missed further bad things he did though...

Rage banning users he didn’t like without any reason and then gloating about it is generally bad moderation

Rage banning users he didn’t like without any reason and then gloating about it is generally bad moderation Lecturing people about gender politics like an earnest, patronising sixth-former whilst ogling 20-something women in spandex was bad enough; angry, half-arsed attempts to justify his particular peccadillos was worse.

We all hated their reviews and pretended the front page didn't exist. Speak for yourself, m8. I quite liked their content and I could never really understand why people moaned about it so much. People going on about Edwin like he just fucked your cat was absolutely pathetic. That said, yes, they were not a source of information, per se. Reviews rarely, if ever, influenced buying decisions and I had usually already seen whatever gaming news they put up on reddit.

His articles are just a couple of paragraphs, I think, about nothing really. I also wish they wouldn't call the 'What Donlan has been playing' articles 'What we've been playing'
I think what bothers me is the pretense that it isn't just Donlan blogging

I never actually paid attention to who the writer was, they all kind of blended into the same style. In the end I just got all the info from the forum. I think the Edwin pile on is people trying to fit in with the cool kids.

You forgot all the exclamation marks in Donlan's writing. There are so many! And lots and tons and oodles and loads of lists separated by ands.

Edwin’s articles were mostly fine. Those who whinnied and brayed loudest about it seemed to either be bitter that they weren’t allowed to be King Pseud or had that weird anti-intellectualism thing going on that seems to be rife in some gaming circles.

I wonder, if Discord replaced forums, haven't gaming sites be replaced even more by Youtube? Nowadays, I find Youtube far more useful for an informed decision on buying a game than a review on Eurogamer. Same for exploring topics around games, there's such an amount of in-depth exploration or documentaries or interviews made by enthusiasts that I find much more interesting than a 10-minute read on some gaming site. In theory, websites like EG could be reduced to mere distributors of press releases. Oh wait... IDK, I actually do enjoy EGs reviews, and Kotaku's thoughts. I prefer things in text. Because 99% of youtubers are essentially 'here are my random thoughts, poorly edited with zero script with a super irritating internet voice and a spoilery thumbnail', but I am very much the minority. I do have a thing for actual production values.

Not sure about Kotaku's writing to be honest. The quality is at an all time low with clickbait headings being the norm.

YouTube reviews are worse than the wankiest of the EG reviews. Hearing someone trying to be funny for 20mins while showing a game is awful.

Text reviews here too. I only look at YouTube for older or more obscure stuff or if I want to see a bit more gameplay than the trailer, and then they have to be short and have a non-annoying reviewer.
USGamer used to be better for reviews for my tastes than EG but I still read their reviews of stuff I am interested in.

Most blog/news sites have something worth reading tbh. The only site I've ever noped out of full stop is Push Square. It's like the beigest, personality-less site in the world with nothing but slow news day desperation posts, and the comment threads were full of people just going "word up son" for some reason.

I used to flick through the EG front page every day or two just because I was there but I've even stopped doing that now. I get most of my news from Ryan's World now.

I buy maybe 2 or 3 games a year and that's based almost entirely on the hype from these forums.

Yeah, I'm old. Cannot get on board with YouTube reviews. Youtube has been around for most of my life, I'm 28 now. I still massively prefered to read throughout the duration. Pretty sure that's not an "being old" thing, it's more like how a lot of people just don't like television. I don't.

I don't mind youtube reviews, having the pros and cons being exemplified in 7 minutes of gameplay is often far more illuminating to me than a rambling 3 page epic. Angry Joe and that ilk can fuck off though, I have a pretty small pool of people with my tastes and preferences who I actually trust to review a game.
Not that I play much of anything these days, but when I do, I want it to be just so. Can't be pissing my time away on any old shit, I'm just happy to wake up in the mornings at my age.

I watch quite a lot of YouTube stuff but as with everything else there you really need to curate your subscriptions and find what you like. I'll happily sit through a Mandalore review of some Warhammer game I'm never going to play or watch Accursed Farms dissect old adventure games I've never heard of, but anything it recommends me outside of my subscriptions has a very good chance of being an insufferable nightmare. It's a pretty useless platform to just go and find random reviews unless you're just looking for some gameplay footage.

I like more EG articles and reviews than I dislike. It's still the only place other than this forum I go to regularly for gaming info.
I barely watch any YouTube gaming reviews and barely ever watch twitch. I'm entirely out of touch, basically.
